Tl;dr: A tournament with those organizers and in such a fashion, will never happen again, and if it does, it will once again be ruled as a joke by the community. The next RBG tournament that arises, will be done right, not like this was done, and never like this.
It was a community-driven tournament that sought to increase participation on both ladders by sparking interest in the bracket through exposure to high levels of gameplay. The tournament was organized by people who have little to no experience in such a field, and despite their irregularities in ruling, they earned my respect for being selfless in their vision, and bringing it to completion.

"There is nothing strange about the fact that lambs bear a grudge towards large birds of prey: but that is no reason to blame the large birds of prey for carrying off the little lambs. And if the lambs say to each other, 'These birds of prey are evil; and whoever is least like a bird of prey and most like its opposite, a lamb, - is good, isn't he?', then there is no reason to raise objections to this setting-up of an ideal beyond the fact that the birds of prey will view it somewhat derisively, and will perhaps say: 'We don't bear any grudge at all towards these good lambs, in fact we love them, nothing is tastier than a tender lamb.' "-Nietzsche (On the Genealogy of Morality)

I cherish the irony. A certain rbg team has convinced themselves they are free to abuse exploits at every opportunity, time and time again that their morality cannot even come into question due to some far-off justification. The actual justification varies, but is irrelevant to me because they are the metaphorical lamb, and ideals of lambs are moot. The community, like the birds of prey you brought attention to, will continue to feed, throw up, and then feed their young again on the tears of this rbg group, until its eventual end.

While we're on the topic of things that induce regurgitation, let us all be reminded of the Bailamos Fantasy RBG Draft. A tournament that was hyped up for weeks upon weeks, that was brought to an abrupt end when the creator of the tournament (who was for some reason participating in the event) abused his own rules to draft a player. As expected, the event never took place. How can the organizers of this debacle attempt to mock another tournament? Once again, such a stark hypocrisy comes as no surprise.

Perhaps a first-grade education would serve better than Nietzsche here:

I have no regrets trying to lead RBGs vs that group. They were a great group and they beat us fairly and that was the best thing that's ever happened in RBGs. 10 top arena players arrogantly thinking they would win against a fairly unknown RBG team and getting stomped.

What? in what way is 10 people absolutely clueless about rbgs facing off against the rank 1 dodge team the "best thing that's ever happened in RBGs"?

You don't know right from wrong if you think Athlete is a scumbag. There are few players that actively play RBGs that I would vouch for and he is one of the few. Say circle of friends all you like, but if you don't know anything about him then that doesn't mean shit.

I get that you're friends with the guy, but how are you entitled to vouch for him? you criticize people for not knowing "anything about him" but when is the last time you even did an rbg, let alone one with him?

RBGs has been one sad place for competitive play during the last 2 expansions and that will probably never change.

Perspective of our team if anyone is interested.
Notable highlights:
1. The other team agrees not to use the exploit before the game started.
2. The other team's mage disconnects at a node, we didn't attack that node.
3. They say that they exploited because we were grip knocking their healers, however if you watch their pov in their starting room, they spend the entire preparation period discussing how to grip knock us.

A wise man once said nothing good happens after 2 am, so I don't think its reasonable to berate their team for twisting the rules when the game was played so late at night. I'm just holding out for the day that people finally respect each other in this community and get back to playing fair. As that regent lord guy mentioned people don't take rbgers seriously, and it's no ones fault but our own.

#4251568 rbgs have the highest skill cap

I don't care to argue which setting has a higher skill cap. But you can't make a demonstrable claim about how "anyone would agree that RBG's are more fun or satisfying". There is no way to prove that the claim is true. People enjoy different game types for different reasons to varying degrees.

Yes there is. Ask anyone who plays both rbgs and arena at a high level. it is much more gratifying to win a challenging rbg.
You can argue that it's because you put more time into the game, but it doesn't feel that way for me personally. If the community wasn't such a detriment, more people would realize this. I'm hopeful for wod, because most of the problems brought up in this thread are due to the players, rather than the actual bracket. If people either learn to play fair or blizzard fixes a few bugs, we could see the same levels of participation we've missed since cataclysm.

I agree completely, but I will say this. This is more of an insight on the PvP community as a whole, not just RBGs. It may be easier to single out cheating in a bracket where there are such few teams playing, but I can guarantee you arenas are just as bad if not worse. People just choose to ignore this fact because it's the easiest way to justify their own opinions of the matter, which they are welcome to, but really leaves the RBG community under such a dark connotation that is quite frankly blown out of proportion.

Well, last season was long, and participation in 10v10 always tapers as seasons stagnate. There were points at the end of last season where three or fewer teams were queueing, all exploit teams and dodging each other. The bracket definitely has its lows but this is only because of the barriers to entry when participation is dead- it's hard to make groups and the only people left want to cheat for easy rating,

#4250320 rbgs have the highest skill cap

Posted Unseenz on 02 November 2014 - 08:17 AM

frequently players with peanut sized brains will make the argument that "3s has a higher skill cap than rbgs" whereas if they understood what a "skill cap" even refers to they would come to the realization that this is impossible

rbgs will always be both more competitive and stimulating for smarter players, those who are willing to apply knowledge of game mechanics to changes in the environment aka people who can think quickly in more than one dimension will come out on top.

let us for example imagine a situation in which two mice are placed in a box, and that they have to battle to the death. Clearly, the more physically capable, bloodthirsty mouse would come out on top and skill wouldn't be a factor [this is an analogy for playing a better comp, for all you arena people reading this].

#4240408 What to do as a Rogue in RBGs- a quick guide

This guide is a bit outdated, a lot of the information in it was pretty irrelevant in last season's metagame. When WOD sets in I'll make sure to update it.
