#4244572 Cheating, AJ & You

Posted Esiwdeer on 27 October 2014 - 07:04 PM

To whom it may concern,

I have chosen to write this post in the interest of stirring some cooperative action on the part of the North American World of Warcraft community. In my humble opinion, the legitimacy of Arena Junkies has long been in decline. I am requesting that the moderatorship of this forum take more serious action against real life threats, leaked real life information, and any credible allegation of cheating.

Thesis: I believe we can greatly reduce the amount of rampant cheating on North American servers through one small, social step. I believe this step is a simple process by which cheaters can be held accountable on the general discussion forums, so long as it is civil, credible and not inflammatory. The "doxing" of prolific cheaters is a misguided(although well-meaning) start, but I believe it falls to people with actual administrator status to curb this culture of cheating.

In this post I will argue that diminishing the amount of cheating is something we must all work toward. I will attempt to show that the only option which provides any sort of efficacy is a retaliatory option. I will provide evidence which I believe shows the need for a responsive, coordinated community which holds its members accountable for the betterment of all.

Firstly, I will say that we will never eliminate cheating. Ladder exploiting, DDoSing, administrative fraud for end of season rewards -- we can never eliminate these cancers, but we can greatly reduce them. I believe that by holding cheaters accountable we can greatly reduce the occurrence and normalcy of these events. One must also consider that while this problem didn't become widespread until late 2012, cheating has been present on all battlegroups/ladders/servers/regions since the arena was introduced. We have the power to re-suppress this ideology and reinstate a culture of honor, competency, and respect for actual skill.

I will begin this post by writing about an exercise in game theory: the prisoner's dilemma. This is a very basic game model in which playing selfishly is always the dominant strategy unless cooperation can be assured. This model can be used as an analog for any game in which the opponents meet more than once.

While playing this game, one learns that they can always do well for themselves by 'betraying' their opponent(playing selfishly.) After some playing, though, you learn that you get the most reward over time through an attitude of constant cooperation. The best computer programs which have the most effective strategies for playing this game follow a sort of "tit for tat" model; if you choose the selfish option, the most effective opponents punish you for your choice each time you make it.

Or we could look to chimpanzees, grooming one another. All chimpanzees, regardless of social standing, groom and receive grooming for removal of ticks, unwanted attachments, simple hygiene and social bonding. Some chimpanzees learn that they can receive grooming and then not return it, or not return it to the same standard(careful removal of ticks, close inspection) for their own profit. Meaning to say, they get groomed for free. They choose the selfish option. These chimpanzees are the DDoSers, the wintraders, the RBG heroes of the jungle.

What kind of chimpanzee do you want to be? The chimpanzees who regularly receive the best grooming are the chimpanzees who hold grudges. By remembering someone who didn't groom you to your satisfaction and refusing to groom them in the future, the chimpanzee has effectively made himself more clean for the rest of his life. Take this one step further. Write a legible, credible, professional post detailing this chimp's selfish action, and let the community cast him out.

These symbiotic relationships exist everywhere in nature. Dawkins is famous for classifying the members of these relationships as suckers, cheats, and grudgers. From humans to chimpanzees to birds, the cheats will always try to behave the most selfishly. The suckers will do nothing - don't cheat, don't hold others accountable. The grudgers hold members of their community accountable based on memory. This is proven scientifically, and this attitude must be embraced by Arena Junkies if the upcoming expansion is going to be anything different than the scum festival that has been Mists of Pandaria.

"Tit for tat" therefore is the most effective strategy where the choices are cooperation or betrayal. We must assure cooperation, and then retaliation. Hold grudges. Let Arena Junkies have a communal memory - a record - of cheating. Disgrace cheaters. This will solve the problem.

It is a social understanding of holding people accountable which will clean up our servers and forums. And yet, posts carefully detailing the cheating of others are deleted and unfairly moderated against.

I am asking for an administrator to re-review the FAQ/posting rules for general discussion. I believe there should be a template for submitting evidence to prove someone has cheated. I believe people should be able to submit evidence in a non-inflammatory way which shows what they believe someone did wrong. If this evidence is found by the community to be credible, this subject should be permanently banned.

Administrators, there must be some retaliation against cheaters. The community which makes guides, visits streams and plays 3v3 at a Gladiatorial level is the same community that must come together to make it known who cheated, how, and for what. This is the only way it can be reduced effectively.

There must be a part of Arena Junkies which holds people accountable when the evidence is insurmountable. There must be a communal sense of justice.

Nothing ruins a game more than cheating. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. You should fear reprisal from the community, or no longer be a part of it.

This atmosphere of cheating is a toxicant created by each of us when we choose not to act. To remove this toxicant, we must choose action over inaction. Each of us, from moderators to lowly members must report posts and clamor for justice. Cheaters must be held accountable. Fake titles must be stripped, banned, corrected & made public. Anyone who cheats must be held accountable.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Let Warlords of Draenor be an expansion known for honor, justice and competency.

She is basically not useful for any person who visits this forum. Once a woman of low class doesn't trust you, she has to stay committed. To me or you it might seem stupid to not have sex with an adonis -- someone rich, handsome, charming, hilarious, competent, talented, well-written, weller-endowed -- to us, it seems a waste to never give that person an opportunity to have sex with you. To us, anyway. To classy people. To a person or peoples of repute, it seems like you're choosing the life of a peasant instead of the life of a non-alcoholic.

To Nymph, it's just another day on the rough streets of the UK. War with Scotland or something? Terrorisms, the king and queen, the prince just creating babies left and right. All she can be concerned with is her survival.

And we can't judge her. She can only be judged by the British matron saint of annoying accents, or her mother.

Tonight I'll drink for the life's worth of missed opportunities. One can only feel sympathy when they realize she just doesn't know any better. Only sympathy.

The real question here is: is he violent? As in, a violent schizophrenic?

If he is, I say, steer clear of him.

A "violent schizophrenic" isn't actually a real diagnosis. Schizophrenics usually only react violently because of their paranoid delusions and/or auditory and visual hallucinations. This is why it's important for people who are paranoid schizophrenics to take their medication and follow orders from their doctor. Even on the right medication it can take a while to find the right dosage and behavior can be unpredictable in the meantime, but the absolute worst possible thing to do is to take recreational drugs. Not all schizophrenics are even paranoid though, so it's kind of hard to give a better answer without knowing more about the situation.

Hope this helps at least a little! :)

Wait....the only diagnosis he had was from Web MD? If that's the case, he really should go get a professional opinion on the matter. Even when actual psychologists diagnose schizophrenia there can be a misdiagnosis and they go to school for years to learn what they know. Web MD is a highly unreliable source and it's quite likely that your friend doesn't have schizophrenia at all. Schizophrenia causes paranoid delusions along with auditory and visual hallucinations. It usually requires medication, which as stated above, causes a pretty zombie-like(sedated) state. The medication doesn't even treat the schizophrenia itself, it just lessens the symptoms. Also, if he were to get diagnosed and was put on medication he definitely shouldn't be drinking or using drugs of any kind and as his friend you should encourage him to make healthy decisions in that regard.
If your friend actually was diagnosed by a professional, then my advice to you would be the same as some people already stated above. It's important to be open with your friend and for him to feel like he can open up to you and talk to you if he needs to. Mental illness patients are so stigmatized in our society that it often causes feelings of shame and can make them feel isolated and alone. Feelings like that can lead to depression and then you're looking at a dual diagnosis and compounded problem. He's still the same friend that you had before and you don't have to treat him like he's broken or anything, just be aware and supportive of his condition. Another issue that comes up for people being treated for schizophrenia is that they often don't want to take their medication because of the way it makes them feel. If your friend ever comes to you with an issue like that, you need to urge him to stay on his medication and follow all the orders given by his doctor. That's my 2 cents :)
