I was thinking about writing some stuff about how it feels to me to pvp in the current state of the game and I thought this might be the best place to do so.
I am playing the warlock class for about 7-8 years now. I loved to play randombgs, not being guarded by a healer all the times, and arenas(around 2100-2300 MMR), for the tactical part of positioning and teamplay.
Playing PvP in WoW:
"To pvp in WoW" once meant to me "ok, I have x enemys, they will have these abilities, they are standing right there and we have those guys with these and looking on this I should go for enemy z/support teammate t mainly for winning the fight".
This means I always saw a mix of intellectual and reactional skill combined with experience which was allowing you to face, anticipate and beat your opponents.
As the time has past there have been a lot of different playstyles, different adaptions to how the game went, sometimes more fast and bursty, sometimes more about reaching a goal in the long run about minutes like manawar.
what never changed from my view was that you had a set table of abilites, of weaknesses and strengths which defined your class and your playstyle in the various situations.
And I can not see this in the current game anymore.
I know that all of you know the feeling of "Hey, I would like to play the game too, when can I get out of this f***ing cc" and "I'm saf.... I'm dead".
We all know this is not what we want and that it's bad but my point is slightly different.
What I do not like and what turns me off a lot from wow-pvp these days is that it feels like you are smashing cooldowns at each other until someone just lost concentration or the time is over and everyone is getting -12 for the draw.
It feels like either you can pull of a mass of damage without using your offensive cooldowns which adds more ridiculous damage on top so you just do not have to take track or care about what deffensive cooldowns the enemy team still has to offer or you need your offensive cooldowns to actually do some kind of damage and you need to put the whole team and especially the healer in a cc-Chain for at least 20 Seconds or more to actually have a chance to kill anything because if you do not do so there will always be a cooldown ready to use and avoid death.
All in all, what I am missing and what drives me crazy is the feeling that you do not need to outplay your opponent anymore, all you need to do is playing the right class and spam a ridiculous amounts of cc and damage until something is dead.
I loved the concept of fakecasting and playing these mindgames against each other. Currently I stopped fakecasting because a sucessful fake isn't rewarding anymore, that is how pvp in generall feel actually.
How does pvp feel from your point of view?
