What exactly is wrong with posting screenshot of a bug? Screenshots tend to get the bugs fixed. That bug has been around since s9 and works like this: if you leave arena with dots up, those dots will ignore resilience completely. That's why the numbers are so big.

Some retards shouldn't be so hostile when they got their access to even post here by exploiting. Not pointing fingers or anything, but doesn't that character look very similar to you on armory? : S

Well, I'm currently at 2121 in a team where we've been mostly just playing around ( http://eu.battle.net...s/Hidx/advanced ) I'm quite sure we could reach 2.3k+ if we really tried, even in the stupidity that is 5.0.5.

If the current 5.1 notes go through like they are I don't really see any team that will beat us in our bg. I've played both lock/monk/rsham (messed around with affl, demo and destro on the lock) as well as mage/monk/druid and mage/monk/rsham.

The only reason monks don't feel as good as they SHOULD atm is because we aren't a class that shines in very fast-paced games, biggest problem being bm/warr teams, and to a smaller degree mage teams (although monks just absolutely shut down casters, so come 5.1 we'll be very very scary, EASILY the best melee class vs caster teams, even better than ferals.)

I'm actually somewhat scared that they'll end up nerfing ww monks again in a patch after 5.1 if things go through like they are now. Monks will end up being pretty meh if played at a low skill level (still probably a lot of fun), but if played near its full potential we'll be very strong, I'd say tied for #1 melee with feral druids, overall.

This is coming from a s1-8 glad rogue (held rank1 in 3v3 and 5v5 for the majority of most seasons in s3-s9, we just never wintraded and lots of other teams on our bg did so we never got the actual r1 title.) I quit my rogue in the start of s9 and just came back for MoP and made monk my new main. Absolutely loving it so far, albeit I've only got around 600 arena games played I still think I can say with confidence that the class is great, and with a few quality of life changes(TP buff down to 1 stack, base movement speed increase) and the other 5.1 ptr changes we'll be in a good spot. (healing sphere buff hidden OP ^^)

This quick post turned in to quite a ramble as I just kept putting my thoughts into it without really editing the order of it all, but I hope someone find my views/feedback on the class useful. Feel free to ask questions if you have any, I'll try to give you my thoughts on it. :)

I don't mean to pick on you, but I feel like the arguments you're presenting against resil, Hidx, are very anecdotal and not ones that I tend to appreciate.  Yes, you can tell us a story where you get overkilled by 200k, and the resil doesn't matter.  However in most situations, it's all about the margin.  13% less strain on your healer, less cooldowns popped during the entire game (by you AND your healer), and less damage taken lets you position more aggressively.

I'm not saying that I know resil is better for punch Monks right now, I'm just trying to express my dislike of this particular argument.  It's way too easy to tell yourself a story about how taking 13% less damage doesn't matter, (and 5% damage does?) and I think the ease with which we players tell ourselves this hurts the overall level of play in arena.

If you had a talent choice between +6% damage and -15% damage taken, which would you take?

The anecdotal "evidence" wasn't really so anecdotal btw (I did explain it poorly, though). Pretty much every single time I die it's by a huge overkill (and by overkill I mean there being like 5+ seconds left until I'd even have a chance to get healed because of cc, and usually in the first few seconds of a stun on me), it's not one of these fallacies where I go "this one time I died to a 200k overkill so gearing defensively OBVIOUSLY doesn't work!", it happens pretty much on every single death I have.

Why more resil wouldn't help here I already explained in my first post - it's simply how monk cds work, we're unkillable outside of stuns while we have CDs ready, and when they are down we just die.

I have no problems surviving for the first ~1-1.5 minutes (although in return for them training me we never get any counterpressure), and then as soon as CDs run out I just drop dead, they don't even need to have big CDs ready.

There is no other way to explain this to someone who hasn't played the class, there's no other class/comp that you can have experience from to relate to it, it's a completely new thing in wow. The closest thing to a monk without cds is a rogue without any cds, without feint. This is why I used anecdotal examples over a more fact-based approach. The monk class hasn't been figured out enough yet for there to really be any hard facts about how to play it.

What it all comes down to in the end is either you trust me on my word (and quick/rough explanations), and trust in my ability to make these calls - or you don't (you probably shouldn't since you don't know me and don't know how well I know the game, but I'm just saying. :).) These posts are all just my views on the monk class and how it should be played and I can't really provide proof for everything I say (I can provide good arguments though, if you ask specific questions. But when just responding to general questions I will not go into too much detail for obvious reasons.)

I always appreciate having someone to theorycraft with, it's one of the things I enjoy most in this game.

I completely agree, and I also hate anecdotal evidence. It's just hard to explain to someone who hasn't played the class without bringing up (stupid) examples, and remember I'm not only speaking to you here, I'm speaking to everyone who reads the forum. I tried my best to explain to you from my POV (ofc it's still subjective, but so is everything in wow regarding strategies/gearing/positioning) and included a bad example. I feel you get to hung up on that though, that example wasn't the only thing I said to explain my reasoning for going for the damage over resil. I'm fully aware that for all the other classes resil is by far the best choice. Monks are the exception atm because we have ZERO on-demand burst, absolutely zero.

What I was trying to say is that in a talent choice between +6% dmg or -15% dmg, I would take the +6% dmg in my current comp. It's on the verge of me picking the DR, if it was 6% vs 12.5% (like it actually is) then there would be no question at all, 6% vs 15% is approaching me getting the damage reduction instead. 20% DR I'd take right away.

I think the main bug with demo locks is that for some reason they are viable in arena.

The game now is suited so that no matter how bad or good you are, you can still lose because you failed to react correctly in a split second decision.

TBC games consisted of outplaying someone over longer periods of time which eventually led to inevitable kills.

Whats more skillful? Outplaying someone by using all your cooldowns in 1-2 globals with some cross cc, or consistently outplaying an opponent for minutes at a time which sets up a huge cc chain or just pressuring the team so much they cannot recover.

This is the worst possible change that could be made in the current state of this game... jesus.  Not being able to use totems while locked out, I agree with, but not being able to use totems while blanketed????

They need to nerf or revamp shaman mastery, nerf the purge glyph for restoration, remove the totemic restoration talent, make NS a 2 minute cooldown, and probably even reduce the crit chance on healing surge with tidal waves up.  Shaman throughput and output needed nerfs, not shaman survivability.

Hello Guys, I've been a long time AJ reader, but until now never bothered to sign up. Always loved this site and most of its content so i figured that now is the time to join it.
I've been playing ret paladin since s3 as it got playable and wow in general since classic beta.  Played Arena since it was introduced to the game but i didnt really care about more than getting those weapons and having fun doing it. So no shiny Heads on my part.

Looking forward to getting in touch with you guys and maybe see some of you in arena.
