Hey Guys,


i played whole Legion on Horde and want to use my spare time to get used to another class - on alliance side (some friends play there).


In the past i enjoyed playing arms warrior in pve and pvp a lot. 


I would appreciate your insight to my new alliance char, i want to switch from arms warrior to one of the following:


- feral druid (nightelf, heard worgen suck)

- retri pala (human)

- hunter (nightelf or human, not sure yet)


Can you recommend any of them for 2v2 and 3v3 (currently no designated group composition) - and BGs. Maybe something is currently not viable in Arena.


I already tried WW Monk (stopped playing, doesnt fit into the Lore - in my opinion) and frost DK (felt too dull with 3 buttons and immobile as fuck).

Rets vs Ferals :  Rets and ferals obviously are powerhouses in damage.  They both take a lot of damage though, since they are both hybrid classes/specs.  Rets have lower mobility, you have to freedom+divine steed to get from point A to B in a satisfactory time.  Ferals, they can shift and wild charge, dash, etc. i.e high mobility. 

Hunters vs Ferals vs Rets : Hunters have decent mobility, obviously will be able to hit things more often than a ret can in certain situations.  Like every ranged class, you will always be near a pillar, so it does help tremendously in taking less damage overall if need be.  Ferals and hunters have similar playstyles in ways that they can keep an enemy in a spot for a long time, rets really don't have that capability on their own.

BGs, Arenas:
Ferals are really good in 2v2, like really fucking good.  Bleeds make life easier.  
Hunters really good in 2v2 as well, but dampening might be more of a necessity than on say: a feral
Rets are really good in 2v2 as well, they have good utility and damage output.
You can also do double dps on all 3 and have a good outcome.

3v3, Rets will be stressful to play: Lots of things u wont be able to touch but when you do touch them, oof the damage (As stated earlier you also take a lot of damage, time playing offensive and defensive well)
Ferals, bleeds bleeds bleeds you can be offensive and defensive almost simultaneously by having bleeds to rot on people whilst using your mobility to counter cooldowns
Hunters rely more on synergy than either ret or ferals, they offer a large role in enemy management, i.e CC and slows, alignment of CC is necessary for hunters to be at peak performance

Ferals weren't that great in BGs to my knowledge since they are more single target than anything, they have high mobility and can kill flag carriers rather well (stealth past and blast), flag maps you are probably gonna be sitting a base
Rets do well on maps like Kotmogu, they have a CC removal for healers, flag carriers, etc. also are good base sitters
Hunters do really good in BGs to my knowledge, you may also have to base sit lol

This is just a general thing, by no means am I an expert at those classes, I'm just giving my personal experiences without going too much in depth.  I used to main a feral and a hunter but I was never really that big on playing ret.  Hope this helps in some way.

I quit wow after season 8 wotlk but i have still been following the game and watching blizzcons etc etc. Is the game in a balanced state these days? I feel like the peak of the game was late wotlk and i loved watching players like marm and homerjay on arena tourney when it felt like every class had a comp that could be played at a competitive level. Just curious if ita worth coming back to a game i played years ago.

Good post overall and it's a shame it's on a dead forum. A few things I would like to add that made the game lose prestige in my eyes:


Complete disregard for old players

I've spent thousands of euros/dollars on this game. I had nearly 600 played days by the end of BC. I gave my life to this game.


At this point in time, any random teenager can obtain 99% of the things I got in my bank within a few days. My PvE warrior (the original one) has 6 t3s, many other unobtainable items from nax (Ramaladni's icy grasp, plague bearer and so on). Now you pay some gold in the auction house and it's yours. Why? No amount of gold is worth all that time I invested to obtain these items. My guild killed Kael 10 days after nihilum (thats like top 10) and I got ashes on that kill. I was being spam whispered to sell it and I said no, cause I loved my character.  My warrior was a tiny bit of my soul transferred into the game. Now an alt with 6 hours played total can go in TK kill kael like it's a lvl 10 mob and get it. Why? 


THE ONLY thing they ever did that catered to some players was the veteran of the shifting sands achievement. I missed hitting the gong and the event due to school, with all the scepter pieces assembled. I was crying in the bathroom because of that. FUcK lost crew FUCK cubensis. After so many years at least they gave me an achievement. That's somethin.


I was someone important because I put a lot of effort and time in this game. I practically sacrificed my youth to get epics. I will always remember what my old guildmaster in vanilla told me "Doesn't matter what gear you have, what matters is when you have it". Yeah the when stopped mattering.


Gameplay changes

The next big thing, if not the biggest, is the gradual homogenization/ability pruning that has befallen the game. When I said I put a small part of my soul into my character I meant it. Every warrior spec took time to master. My action bars were full of abilities and macros. Playing was demanding but rewarding. Now everyone presses the same buttons, and the soul of each class has been lost. I believe this is the reason blizzard is bleeding subscribers more than anything else. You don't pve 100% of the time and you don't pvp 100% of the time. You play your character 100% of the time and if that's not enjoyable then nothing is.


The community

This game was played by hardcore nerds. I would sleep in net cafes, forget to bathe, ignore my friends. But I had friends in game. Lots of them. Tons of them. Everyone knew everyone. We did shit together, we spoke on ventrillo, we had tons of FUN. Now I q up a dungeon, raid w/e no one speaks. No one is interested in anything, this place is like a huge tinder where you constantly swap partners.

PvP all things considered (enjoyability, activity, gameplay, fun etc.)




PvE in terms of epicness mostly (PvE is not gauged by difficulty but by story depth - although I would argue that after raiding everything until MoP, SSC/TK were the hardest by far. Up to date I cannot recall a fight where I wiped more than Kael, followed by Vashj)


TBC tier 5 (SSC/TK)/TBC heroics>Vanilla AQ/Naxx>Vanilla dungeons preraids (Scholo 10man)>Wotlk Ulduar era>Legion>MoP>>Wod>>>Cata


Dunno legion PvP seems a bit stale and class gameplay is very cut and dry but overall the game offers things to do. Storyline's pretty good, quests don't feel as grindy, raids are well designed (but easy), mythic is cool.

im assuming a well established player like yourself with r1 titles from 5+ years ago would have plenty of partners by now no?

The last sliver of my friends quit after WoD, not to imply that I miss WoD simply due to them though.  I could find new partners, but people don't like to comply with a different method of play style(for example an analytical approach in game play rather than a let's just hit things) and they react rather mercurially to it in Legion.  This is why I did legion s1 and s2 with regular rather than pushing r1, it just tired me out going through countless people with the same results except for a small few whom had to unfortunately quit due to their job circumstances.
