In two online studies (total N = 1215), respondents completed personality inventories and a survey of their Internet commenting styles. Overall, strong positive associations emerged among online commenting frequency, trolling enjoyment, and troll identity, pointing to a common construct underlying the measures. Both studies revealed similar patterns of relations between trolling and the Dark Tetrad of personality: trolling correlated positively with sadism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism, using both enjoyment ratings and identity scores. Of all personality measures, sadism showed the most robust associations with trolling and, importantly, the relationship was specific to trolling behavior. Enjoyment of other online activities, such as chatting and debating, was unrelated to sadism. Thus cyber-trolling appears to be an Internet manifestation of everyday sadism.

I found this article amusing and definitely not surprising, lol. I thought some of you might enjoy it :)

Is Anyone Here Familiar with de Saussere, Sapir, Slobin, Austin, or Barthes?

I'm taking a language and power course at my University that requires discussions and interpretations of a lot of older readings. I'm not familiar with most of these authors, but I was wondering if maybe any of you are. I'm having a difficult time diving in and getting interested, but it might be more interesting if I had someone to talk to about them. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

What are you?

I don't normally put much stock in this kind of stuff, but I found these pretty amusing and even somewhat accurate. After getting glimpse of all the different personalities around here I was kind of curious. What are you? :)
