#4131869 Is Holy Obsolete?

Posted Jim_Jim on 31 May 2014 - 04:04 PM

Paladins dont need buffs at all, its all about the other healers needing a nerf.

It's more complex, even if it's true.

Why bring a Hpal during Wotlk : Magic dispel, freedom, big casted heals, but zero offensive tools, just a 1min HoJ.

Since Cataclysm, and for PvE reasons, each healers gain magic dispel and big heals, because every healers in PvE should be able to heal (and dispel) a tank, and a raid. (Hpal was the primary tank-healer).
We lost 2 of our best charms. Compared to others healers? They don't lost as much as hpal during those 2 xpac.
Outside of one spec - Feral - there are no reasons to have a Hpal in a team.

Freedom, protection, sacrifice have huge cooldown, and easily dispelable. (Compared to Wotlk when we had lots of trashs buff + 30% passive resist with talent). Hpriest have "better" sacrifice (With 8s CD), and rdruid can ironbark/cenarion during silence + spamable shapeshift.
Our healing is not impressive at all outside of 2CD. (Holy Avenger and Yellow angel)
We are the last healer to cast a little with shaman. But shaman have bigger heal, passive and smart heal so...
Almost everything is dispelable. Imagine if the hpriest guardian was dispelable? It's the same for Hpal, but for everything.

We have the same tools since Wotlk, but we gain nothing useful (Useful = Something unique for the team, something you can rely on, not a RNG-dispel "If they don't dispel it, don't use your CD") since Cataclysm.
Compared to feathers, passive wall for priest, spectral guise, ironbark, cerarion ward, freedom totem, stormlash, grip, swap life, guardian, HotW, Soul of the forest etc etc...

The first and real up for Hpal, for me, would be a CD on every spamable offensive dispel.

(Edit : don't play with 2 casters, it's boring and easy as Hpal.)

#4128461 Jaime's Elemental Shaman Guide (5.4.7)

Posted glonglon on 27 May 2014 - 01:18 AM

Hey nice guide jaime, too bad I have no more +rep points for the day.

I noticed that the damage priority list is missing.

I am no pro ele but here is some pretty basic stuff about how to do damage :

Posted Image

Of course, you should always use lava burst on a target with the flame shock debuff.

Use the fire elemental totem in the arena opener to build pressure.

When your fire elemental is gone use searing totem when you have a spare GCD.

Use stormlash totem separately from ascendance when you and your partner both have a chance to dps a lot.

How to burst with ascendance :

Ascendance resets and remove the CD of lava burst so you always want to use it when lava burst is on CD. It's also good to know that if you're locked on your fire school (e.g pummel, kick) using ascendance will remove the lock. It's also best to use ascendance during your surge of dominance proc for max damage.

Using spiritwalker's grace during ascendance is a great idea because it allows you to run while casting lava burst and it's very convenient because it has the same 3mn CD and 15s duration.

Your burst macro should look like this :

#showtooltip Ascendance
/use 14
/use 10
/use Blood Fury(racial)
/cast Elemental  Mastery
/cast Spiritwalker's Grace
/cast Ascendance
/cast Lava Burst

About fulmination, it should be saved for bursting, never use it randomly, there is a free skill-capped video that explain very well when to use it :

Next I recommend you invest in downloading and modifying Interrupt Bar to show the cooldowns of when the instant ccs are back up, for example, POM Sheep, NS, FOJ, Scatter etc. Once you then see, for example, a paladin sprinting towards your healer with hoj off cd, you can ground and you have a good chance to get the hoj.

You can also use GladiusEx to display those important CDs.

Hope this helps,

#4127981 Is anyone know how to set like this frame addon

Posted glonglon on 26 May 2014 - 11:45 AM

Hi Mr Wang,

Chanimals said on skill-capped that It's a simple gladius with the default background texture disabled, he probably created a custom black background texture with photoshop that fits his gladius frame size and used the kgpanels addon to display it in game :

Posted Image

Instead of using kgpanels I suggest you to use weakauras, you can easily create background textures with the weakauras addon because weakauras can do everything. Here is an example with the holy power bar that I created for my ret paladin.

1) Go into gladius config panel and disable the default background texture or change the opacity to make it transparent.
2) Install Weakauras
3) Log into the game with the WA addon enabled and type /wa.
4) The menu will appear go to "texture" to create a new texture, I chose to simply name it "background" :

Posted Image

In the display tab click on choose to chose a texture to display :

Posted Image

Go to shapes and pick a regular square :

Posted Image

I changed the Height & Width and XY offsets to match my holy power bar frame size and position, in your case you'll change it in order to match your gladius frame size and position. It's also very important to put the background in the background frame strata.

Posted Image

Go to the "load" tab (tab where you chose when you want to display the texture). Check the box "Instance type" and pick "arena" because you want to display the background for gladius only when you're in arena. (In my holy power bar example I chose to display the background only when I have holy power).

Posted Image

Optionally, I also created a slightly bigger grey square background texture with the same settings to add a grey border :

Posted Image

Here is the final result :

Posted Image

Btw, WA can also add animations to textures here is an example with a pulse animation for the fifth holy power point :

Hope this helps,

PS :

Instead of donating all your money to twitch bitches with huge cleavages, donate to the WA dev team, they really need it. Regards.

#4127507 As combat, Y not glyph expose armor & get 12% extra

Posted glonglon on 25 May 2014 - 05:24 PM

Hi Lord Xar,

This glyph is bad.

I'll explain why later but first you need to understand how Bandit's guile works :

Posted Image If you use sinister / revealing strike 4 times you'll gain Shallow Insight (+10% dmg) also known as green buff. Lasts 15 secs.

Posted Image If you use sinister / revealing strike again 4 times you'll gain Moderate Insight (+20% dmg) also known as yellow buff. Lasts 15 secs.

Posted Image Use sinister / revealing strike another 4 times and you'll gain Deep Insight (+30% dmg) also known as red buff. Lasts 15 secs.

As you can see you need to use sinister / revealing strike 12 times to gain the 30% red buff.

As combat you want to global your opponent, to setup a kill you need to do this :

Posted Image

And here is where you wonder why all of this is related to the expose armor glyph.

You need to understand that to line up the proc trinket with the red buff sometimes you need to STOP using sinister / revealing strike as a combo builder.

For example :

You have 2/4 yellow buff but there is 20s left on your insignia of conquest ICD, that means you are stacking your bandit's guile way too fast and you'll not be able to line up the red buff with the insignia proc. To solve this issue, you need to slow down your bandit's guile stacking, this is why in those moments you'll use expose armor as a combo builder and only use sinister / revealing strike once per 12 secs to refresh the yellow buff just before it falls out. And voilĂ  your red buff and proc trinket will line up perfectly.

To conclude, due to the fact that you'll often use expose armor as an alternative combo builder you'll not struggle to maintain the 12% armor debuff. There are far better glyphs for your third glyph slot, for example CoS against melee cleaves or melee+wizard and smokebomb against wizards, feint allow you to save some energy and recovery can also be a viable choice but it's not that great because as combat your combo points generation is low but anyways it can still help your healer sometimes.

Hope this helps,

PS :

Weakauras is great to track bandit's guile stacks, here is a weakauras import code for a sinister strike / revealing strike counter :

Read this if you don't know how to use the import function of the weakauras addon.

To track your insignia of conquest ICD you can also use weakauras or ExtraCD addon.
