nostalgia truly hides the imperfections of WotLK. The game was broken as hell, the only difference is that the game  itself was defi more fun to play because of more tools to use and well, some would argue that pveing to pvp also was a huge aspect of the game which made it indirectly more fun too.

To bring back some of the oh so not nice memories;

- LSD, fuck lsd, cuz lsd

- ATC (prot warr with like 1-2 resi pieces, hunt, hpala), 1 shot everything while being pretty much immune to dmg for a full min in the start of the game, only the top 3 god comps could beat it.

- GCD hack, some even say people used it for the full duration of the expansion ( BLADEY SHAME ON YOU )

- DKs, a 50% shield wall that made u immune to stuns for 12 sec, with a 1 min cd? WTF? Anti magic shell & anti magic zone ontop of that.

- Hpalas, freedom stuns, while stunned, really?

- Hunters, Stuns periodically by pressing explosive shot, RNG only obviously cuz why not?

- Bladestorm not disarmable, full duration bladestorm would kill you if u didnt have a massive cd to counter it, very little counter play to it at one point if used correctly.

- Double healer warrior, double healer warlock, double healer prot pala, double healer ret - few of many diff double  healer comps that easily could achieve rank 1

I could go on and on and on about the flaws of WotlK, people seem to just mindlessly ignore it tho. Sure it had its peak where there were a lot of comps & classes that were both fun and rewarding to play but dont tell me wotlk was this ideal game where noone cries bout mages or locks, the game was inbalanced as hell from patch to patch.

I think the problem lies with how fun the individual character is, really. I truly wish & hope that blizzard announces a few more abilities for each and every class for the next expansion. Let the feels come back where mages dont seem to have 2x the abilities you have.

Significant revertion to the pre-cata formula.

Talent trees, significant class differences, and most important - meaningful class gameplay.

You can have an unbalanced piece of trash such as MoP and people will continue playing as long as they're having fun playing their class and playing together.

Add in depth to the classes and differentiat them from one another (none of this bring the player not the class bullshit) and you'll pull in people who just want to experience the RPG/immersion aspect of the game; which is ~70% of the player base. Even the high end players bought this game because of that, not because they got bored one day.

Shit like four difficulties for the same raid needs to go

I could write a doctoral thesis on the steps nessecary to bring this game back to glory in both the eyes of the average player and the top end player. It's pretty much ~80% of what they added/changed/removed from cata on.

When WOTLK ended, they had two roads of development that they could have taken.
1) Keep developing the game as they did pre WOTLK - meaning: make it hard, but rewarding. Make it unforgiving and a true RPGMMO.
2) Finally give in to all the whine "game too hard for casuals", "dont want to play this game if I cannot be like THAT GUY", "I want to be a gladiator also, but I am too lazy to improve, make the game easier so I can get glad with no effort at all"

Sadly, as the second development path was where the majority of the players were (where all the money was), they choose to develop the game in that direction. The impact of this was huge. Once everyone can get everything they want, that SOMETHING (whether its a title, mount, gear, achievement) loses its value. If everyone can have spectral tiger - spectral tiger is not desirable anymore. Doesn't matter it looks good, if everyone has it - loses value. That is exactly what had happened to this game after they gave in to all the whining "I want to be as good as that guy and I WANT IT NOW!". The game got simplified which resulted in a decreased ability to outplay your opponents, thus making it easily playable for everyone. But guess what? No one really likes this once they realize that they are not special and that things you do can be done by anyone...

If I was Blizzard, I'd disallow queueing double melee AND double caster unless I took specific steps to make sure that all 3 comp archetypes were properly balanced ( with the exception of double healer, I'd never allow ANYONE, EVER, to queue that ). When everyone swapped to Shatter during S8, I was the only Spriest left in the world that was above 2700 and still played melee/caster/healer. I caved in once the best mage on my battlegroup asked me to play 3s, and I didn't lose a single game from that point to the end of season in 3s due to how OP double caster was ( and I still regret not getting R1 that season, but that Mage was somehow satisfied with not playing the game and only getting Glad ). So trust me when I say that I don't like double caster as much as you, but I also despise melee cleavers who demand rights in this game. Fuck you double melee, fuck you double caster, shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down.
