#4530174 Bring back titles to 2's in Legion?

Posted Voksen on 29 October 2015 - 11:37 PM

OP:  A legitimate question, too bad your context went over most people's heads.

All kinds of sheep jumping on the "no" bandwagon.  No...to what exactly?  Stop being:  trolls, EU as fuck, Activision jaded, too new to remember the golden age, or just plain AJ toxic.  I'll bite, and take 5 mins to be constructive...

You need to differentiate between opinion on the bracket currently vs. potentially.  Currently its fucking bad --> the end.  However, the potential for balanced, legitimate, and sufficiently competitive 2v2 is there.  Maybe not for tournaments, but at least enough for titles.  This is fact based on (i) history, and (ii) simpler in balance design then 3v3/5v5.  There is absolutely no structural reason why you couldn't dial down the balance tuning for small scale fights.  Yes, this risks alienating the large-scale group fight players.  Of course there are reasons why you wouldn't expect successful 2v2 balance to happen -- mainly because Blizzard cba.

I think the devs need to seriously look at re-introducing 2v2 titles, even moreso then 5v5 titles.  The OP gives reasons why it could work based on Legion design.  I'll add some business model reasons:
  • A shrinking and increasingly isolated player base, where getting the other people together for 'competitive' large-scale fights is going to become a challenge in and of itself.
  • More pairing-off and group-completion per unit time per queue volume.  This yields more ladder entropy/activity and faster queues.
There was a time when 2v2 was way more balanced then 3v3 is right now, and ofc lightyears more legit then lol 2s since prob cata.  Alas, most people focus on the 1 or 2 exceptions like those poorly played hunt/druid 40 min games.  Personally I'd like to see 2v2 titles based around charters, which force a kind of lock-in commitment to synergize/intimacy with someone, and not just give up and head back to LFG after 2-3 losses.  This way you get less fotm cookie cutting and cleave out most of the metagaming and char select that happens in charterless 3v3.

Do I think Legion will be balanced (for any bracket arenas) at all in any way?  Probably not.  If by chance it is, it will be because of more ability homogenization, or a console-level simplification.

#4507173 Progressive Wotlk Server Launched Today

Posted Chipz on 26 September 2015 - 12:51 AM

So if the patch will always be 3.3.5 whats the point in taking 2 months to get to lvl 80? This patch is not balanced around <80 arena/pve. If it would be a progression through the old patches and contents then I would get the nostalgia idea.

Anyways I'm going to create a character there, sounds like it could be fun. Something I had too little of in WoD.

#4489887 Adding A Solo Queue--

Idk why LoL needed to coddle everyone into being pussies.

A ranked solo q would be much better than what you've got now. They don't need to remove/change skirmishes as they are now. I can't remember the last time I saw a 3s skirmish pop, mostly because I don't queue them, entirely because half the time its 1/2v3 and the other half it's some retarded triple dps v. something that makes sense.

The system really isn't hard to come up with, you have to be a minimum iLvL (should be based off of the scaled level in PvP so you don't end up with 675 people in baleful gear), pick your role, and pick X dps classes you do not want to be queue'd up with. Obviously if you play something like feral, mage, warlock etc. you're going to get faster queue pops as less people will restrict those classes as opposed to say a WW, but that isn't any fault of the solo q system. Those WW monks have just as hard of a time finding actual partners to play with, and that's blizzard's fault.

They do solo queue on the arena tournament server, and it works pretty much fine. It's not perfect, but I'll take that over finding randoms on LFG right now. For everyone pointing out minor flaws with games' current forms of solo queue, its so much better than what WoW has currently. I maybe queue 2-3 times a week with people I actually know, and my spare time doing 3's involves 12 year olds, old men from the south who insist their retarded logic is infallible, and 16-19 year old kids being 'so high' during games. Shit's insanely boring.

I'd love to hear some more actual reasons why a ranked form of 3v3 skirms would be bad, but fear the thread will derail into more LoL discussion and the obligatory Nicholas being a raging faggot to people because he's so damn busy at his job that he loves so much.

after AT did that their whole 3v3 bracket died and the only thing you can que now is aids soloq with no voice/random people/no team play

#4467863 I know how to fix WoW in a few mins, dev come read my thread

Posted Dakkrothy on 06 August 2015 - 07:07 AM

nostalgia truly hides the imperfections of WotLK. The game was broken as hell, the only difference is that the game  itself was defi more fun to play because of more tools to use and well, some would argue that pveing to pvp also was a huge aspect of the game which made it indirectly more fun too.

To bring back some of the oh so not nice memories;

- LSD, fuck lsd, cuz lsd

- ATC (prot warr with like 1-2 resi pieces, hunt, hpala), 1 shot everything while being pretty much immune to dmg for a full min in the start of the game, only the top 3 god comps could beat it.

- GCD hack, some even say people used it for the full duration of the expansion ( BLADEY SHAME ON YOU )

- DKs, a 50% shield wall that made u immune to stuns for 12 sec, with a 1 min cd? WTF? Anti magic shell & anti magic zone ontop of that.

- Hpalas, freedom stuns, while stunned, really?

- Hunters, Stuns periodically by pressing explosive shot, RNG only obviously cuz why not?

- Bladestorm not disarmable, full duration bladestorm would kill you if u didnt have a massive cd to counter it, very little counter play to it at one point if used correctly.

- Double healer warrior, double healer warlock, double healer prot pala, double healer ret - few of many diff double  healer comps that easily could achieve rank 1

I could go on and on and on about the flaws of WotlK, people seem to just mindlessly ignore it tho. Sure it had its peak where there were a lot of comps & classes that were both fun and rewarding to play but dont tell me wotlk was this ideal game where noone cries bout mages or locks, the game was inbalanced as hell from patch to patch.

I think the problem lies with how fun the individual character is, really. I truly wish & hope that blizzard announces a few more abilities for each and every class for the next expansion. Let the feels come back where mages dont seem to have 2x the abilities you have.

just my 2 cents, haters be hatin!

#4466756 where does wow go from here?

Posted Speedymart on 04 August 2015 - 11:51 PM

Significant revertion to the pre-cata formula.

Talent trees, significant class differences, and most important - meaningful class gameplay.

You can have an unbalanced piece of trash such as MoP and people will continue playing as long as they're having fun playing their class and playing together.

Add in depth to the classes and differentiat them from one another (none of this bring the player not the class bullshit) and you'll pull in people who just want to experience the RPG/immersion aspect of the game; which is ~70% of the player base. Even the high end players bought this game because of that, not because they got bored one day.

Shit like four difficulties for the same raid needs to go

I could write a doctoral thesis on the steps nessecary to bring this game back to glory in both the eyes of the average player and the top end player. It's pretty much ~80% of what they added/changed/removed from cata on.
