#4222219 Rating Decay

Greetings there,
as you already could have forseen by clicking on this thread, this is an idea that was randomly thrown around but never got the true attention it deserved, or at least, I have not witnessed it. Therefore, I shall try to make a constructive topic regarding Rating Decay and the current situation in World of Warcraft ratings in general.

As in any game, especially World of Warcraft – a game which is constantly being changed and rebalanced, the whole purpose of the game is to get better at it and have fun while doing so. None of us were amazing players when we started playing and we have all gone through major developments of the game knowledge, gamesense, reflexes and what have you to get where we are now. But, as Blizzard constantly likes to throw around random changes for whatever sake they may be, we constantly have to change, adapt and learn to play at our best potential.

As you all know, we have come a long way from TBC era where elitism in WoW and in online games, in general, was not prevailent as it is right now. Titles meant something back then, so did the gear. With the idea that I am forwarding here, we can bring some of that glory back with the slight change to how rating works.

Rating Decay itself is pretty self-descriptive, if you do not play certain amount of games required, your rating will start decaying drastically over a period of time. That's the general idea behind it, but what would this system bring? From what I could muster with my brainstorming abilities, rating decay has more pros than cons. Let us take a look at some of those:
- Boosters would be put out of businsess, unless the boosters are willing to play a game on someone's account every week or so, this would have a drastic impact on the ladder as players who earn their respective titles and rewards would actually be able to get them (which is consequently another pro)
- Wintrading would be reduced as no team wants to screw over a season worth of work for them, and Blizzard should be monitoring the ladders and matches being played at high-end arena during the course of the last couple of weeks, just to make sure no one is doing anything fishy. I am coming from a Spanish BG, so wintrading is like pressing W here.
- Promotes constant playing and a rather stable ladder.
- Camping rating is long gone. This is one of the reasons rating decay should have been brought even earlier. These players would constantly need to play in order to maintain their slot on the ladder.

- Players would be forced to play every so often (2-3 weeks of inactivity would automatically drop your rating and your MMR significantly lower).
- Booster and wintrading scum threads on these forums.
- Forcing players to be pre-paid for the course of the entire season.
(note; these are all subjective opinions, pros and cons are not the laws of physics and I might have forgotten some obvious ones)

As I have already triggered a few sparks with these comments, I am hopeful that you are still reading this. Now we shall take a look at one of the main reasons why I am making this statement. Every other game that has some sort of a meaningful rating/ladder system, has rating decay, namely League of Legends and Starcraft 2. In both of these games, your rating would significantly drop if you do not play for a while in order to have a clear ladder representation.

''But, what if I do not start at the beginning of the season? How can I catch up with others? What prevents me from just playing in the last week of the season and get my well deserved rank 1 title?'' – this is one of the biggest problems that I have come across with rating decay. Taking into consideration that WoW arena is a fast-paced scenario, you cannot compare it to 20+ minute games in LoL, or the 10+ minute matches in Starcraft 2, we have to throw some innovative solutions.  I have pondered about a possible solution to this problem, and this is the solution to this problem:
- After a point in mid-season (let's say the season will last for 6 months, so after 3 months) an Rating and/or MMR cap will be forced into action. Rating cap basically means that you cannot gain a certain amount of Rating in that week, same like a Conquest cap. The number can be tweaked, but my proposal is that you cannot gain more than 200  Rating per week after you reach 2000 Rating. This means that a team can camp around 2kish Rating the entire season, and then it needs 5 weeks to get to 3k (which seems to be the peak) – and also means that playing additional games after you get to your Rating cap does not move you up the ladder. Players who are constantly trying to improve and rank up throughout the season will not even feel this change as we all know that we have all hit the ''MMR peak'' for ourselves at some point and getting even 50 rating was a demanding task. This would be the perfect solution to all of the problems that are currently plaguing the ladder.

Please share your thoughts and any feedback is possible. I am thinking of presenting this idea at the official WoW forums, but I thought I'd run it through here to see how you guys percieve it. Thanks for reading! :)

no, shut the fuck up and go away

I like how you are throwing roasty under the bus while trying to save yourself. You saying things like "we played godcomp and won" just shows how insincere your apology is because you seem to be implying that you yourself won the game, when in reality roasty wasn't the only one on your team being piloted.

And youre seriously retarded for taking that comment seriously. The point was to jog everyone's memory about how scummy kaska was in cataclysm, etc, and Wizk making a futile attempt to cleanse his name by dropping the name of someone who in the past was the poster child for scum baggery.

What's the point of bringing up what someone over the internet did 3 years ago that is completely unrelated to this thread, and then using it against wiz? judging by your posts it seems like you have some personal vendetta against wiz, when I know for a fact he's probably never seen your name before. It's weird. /=

Who doesn't like him? Idk anyone that doesnt like him.. and LMAO.. Tryign to defend yourself agaisnt DDOSING and sumbaggery, then you mention KASKAs name.. One of the originators of the DDOS art. lmao. Wizk, just give it up, and leave the community. No one likes you, no one wants to bw associated with you, no one cares about you, no one wants you (other than a small circle of like 3 people). Its just a game man.. Quit trying so hard to make a name for yourself in something thats going to be irrelevant  sooner rather than later. If you wanted to make a name for yourself, you should have done it starting around 2008 when all of the people who have names did it. Its too late now. And its especially not helping your case that youre trying to do it by being scummy. The gigs up man. Everyone knows. Quit while you.re ahead.

P.S. Your brother Urcle said he wants his suspenders  back and to tell you that using the name Wizkhalifa is a very stupid thing for a small nerd like yourself to do. We get it man, you want people to think youre a cool white nerd that smokes reef and listens to 420 songs while ddosing his way up the arena ladder. We get it.

if you think anyone involved with this game had anything to do with coming up with "the art of ddosing" you are seriously retarded

Kaska like everyone knows is one of the biggest DDoSers in this game, anyone who supports him in any sort of way is scum in my book unless they are that unaware of his past and current actions. Being ignorant would be not realizing who he affiliates and assuming it just happened to be 2 DCs at the perfect time back to back vs the same players, THAT would be ignorant.

yea kaska is a huge scumbag i hate him so much!!1
