#4195000 Quit mid Cataclysm. Planning on coming back now. What do I need to know?

Posted Speedymart on 21 August 2014 - 03:46 AM

Wait a month until 6.0 is live then start playing

There's absolutely no point to learn the class from scratch to only have to relearn it a month later

They should just lower the cost of each conquest piece every month into the season

#3828653 Gaming Router

Posted Pharaun on 29 December 2012 - 02:30 AM

The rule of thumb is that anything labeled "gaming" is probably overpriced and a bit shitty.  Any router that is not a steaming pile of shit will work for you.

"Dual band" refers to a technique for 802.11 wireless.  Specifically it usually means that you can have devices connected on 5GHz and 2.4GHz frequencies at the same time.  If your computer is not connected to wireless, you really don't care about this.

I personally have some refurb cisco (somewhat shit) e2500 or e1500 or something.  Doesn't really matter.

Now it could be that the ISP is wrong and your router is in fact not the issue.  Hard to say.  :\

I don't mean to offend you, but if we judged ferals based on this clip nobody in their right mind would ask for nerfs. The fact that you somehow managed to loose against a KFC with the comp you are running is just baffling...

#3817164 US gemming resilience EU gemming damage, why the difference?

Posted Vanguards on 07 December 2012 - 11:50 PM

There's a common misconception that PvP Power negates Resilience. This actually isn't true because Resilience is factored in after PvP Power in a sense. Lets say a Frostbomb hits for 100,000. With 50% PvP Power it hits for 150,000. However, if a person has 50% Resilience, it would hit for 75,000 in the end.

Now lets pretend the Mage gemmed more PvP Power and the target gemmed more resilience. The PvP Power became roughly 60%. The Resilience became 55%.
Frost Bomb not hits for 160,000, but with 55% Resilience it hits for 72,000. This is not the exact PvP Power to Resilience scale; but that should give you the picture that Resilience = generally more damage reduction than PvP Power's increased damage point to point with full PvP Gear.

edit: In the end you can't just go one way or the other for everyone. If you play a class like Enhance Shamans, gemming Resilience is probably smart since they get trained over half the time. If you play a class like Warriors, it's probably good to use PvP Power against non-Casters and Rogues.

If you have enough conquest points it's probably best to have 2 sets ready. Wear the set depending on if the team is going to hit you or not. However with the upgrading gear factored in this season it's going to be a lot harder to do this.

#3812651 Disabling red bars - working method

Posted Thaya on 29 November 2012 - 02:06 AM

f=CreateFrame("Frame") f:RegisterEvent("LOSS_OF_CONTROL_ADDED") f:RegisterEvent("LOSS_OF_CONTROL_UPDATE") f:SetScript("OnEvent",function() for b in pairs(ActionBarActionEventsFrame.frames) do b.cooldown:SetLossOfControlCooldown(0,0) end end)

Choose one:
  • download and install this addon: http://www.mediafire...rstnhs03hiabt2g - it just runs the script above;
  • or put the script above in an addon you always run in its main .lua file;
  • or create your own addon to run the script above - a simple guide is in my signature;
  • or simply /run the script above in-game every time you log in.

Update 1: added a downloadable addon.

Update 2: updated both the script and the download with a more efficient version - it'll run only when you actually do get controlled instead of on every action bar update/event. Save yourself some CPU cycles.

Update 3: a version that hooks into Bartender as well: http://www.wowinterf...rolRemover.html

#3808895 Some 5.2 updated addons (AAV, SpellAlerter, Icicle, SpellLock, PAB, Interrupt...

Posted Draakex on 21 November 2012 - 03:18 PM

For those who are interested - i fixed some old addons for 5.2 and wrote small ones for myself:

AAV (Atrox Arena Viewer)
- records and plays arena-matches
http://rapidgator.ne...aav.rar.html
(currently bugged when viewing matches with deathknights - freezes your wow)

PAB (Party Ability Bar)
- shows cooldowns of your party-members
http://rapidgator.ne...PAB.rar.html
http://www.mediafire...134781tocn4r8vj
(if you have the blizzard raidframes enabled, you need to set "Sort By:" to "Role" and mustn't select any role)

InterruptBar
- shows Interrupt (can't differ cooldowns from real counterspell-interrupt or just blanket)
http://www.mediafire...c6zrrcw53fa709z

InterruptTracker
- like InterruptBar but able to show multiple cooldowns of the same interrupt-spell and only shows possible interrupts by the specific classes
http://rapidgator.ne...racker.rar.html

SpellAlerter
- shows notifications on the screen if certain spells/buffs are casted
http://rapidgator.ne...lerter.rar.html

SpellLock
- tracks spell school lockouts on enemy player targets by you or members of your party
http://rapidgator.ne...lLock.rar.html

CombatTimer
- shows a 5sec (+- delay-time) timer for the exact time of when you drop out of combat
http://rapidgator.ne...tTimer.rar.html

ClassColor
- colors the background of the unitframes by class
http://rapidgator.ne...sColor.rar.html

StopWatchTimer
- shows stopwatch when focus active and counts the interrupt-cooldowns (plays "click"-sound when ready)
http://rapidgator.ne...hTimer.rar.html

Icicle
- shows enemy cooldowns over the NamePlates
http://rapidgator.ne...Icicle.rar.html
http://www.mediafire...1jpzjgy10i80g1o

LeaveCanceller
- disables the leave-confirmation when leaving arena
http://rapidgator.ne...nceler.rar.html

If any of the links are not working for you or you need mirrors, just tell me and i'll upload it elsewhere.

If you have any other wishes for addons, you need to be fixed for the current patch, please let me know and i'll try.

+rep would be very appreciated

Edit:
If you notice any .lua-Errors please let me know (and make screenshots of them, so it's easier to find the error-source).

#3806699 Why wow is so hard to balance?!

Posted Ctuhlu on 17 November 2012 - 01:18 PM

It's not just PVE. At all.

Take a look at some of the most commonly complained about things in the last few seasons. Off the top of my head: Resto Shaman cleansing/burst healing, Rogue control, too many silences/stuns, too much instant CC, Warrior one-shotting stuff, instant hungering cold, etc etc. None of that has really any influence on PVE. When Resto Shamans were OP in PVP for Cataclysm, they were also the quote-unquote worst PVE healer. And sure rogues could keep a player locked down almost indefinitely in seasons 9-11, but what advantage did that give them in PVE? Stuns don't work on bosses.

And then for the specs that would get absurdly high burst capabilities (warriors, mages) -- being able to "burst" something down in PVE is not very important as what really matters is your overall DPS, 99% of the time. Burst damage could have easily been tweaked in favor of sustain and nobody would have really cared aside from the pre-teens that wouldn't see as big of numbers and would take their angst to the forums.

Fast forward to MoP and you have an even HIGHER amount of CC and silences, and again -- these spells are very rarely even applicable in PVE, especially raids. Overall, PVEers don't really care if the Shadow Priest blanket silence is 5 seconds long or 3 seconds long. It's really only the PVPers that do. Now obviously there are some PVE things that DO fuck with PVP, such as raid gear, but saying PVE is the main reason why WoW PVP is imbalanced is to me extremely inaccurate.

It comes down to developer incompetence, ignorance, or apathy. Or all three.

i think people should stop to shittalk GC
the only thing i wish was a bit more insight into the whole "buff/nerf/balance" change, so it would be more transparent

but guys, if you go to a restaurant and want special "offers" do you go to the cook and insult him first?

Gc deserves every last bit of shit he gets. He has proved again and again his inability to take advices from community and players that actually know thing or two about this game.

And that cook metaphor makes absolutely no fucking sense since everyone has already sinked loads of money into this game so that kinda gives reason to be miffed about the stage of the game, and about the guy who's ruining it.
