In Topic: How would you balance mages?

Some small changes that can be done without a big rework of the class:
  • Change Cold Snap school from Physical to Frost so you can't get locked out on Frost and then just Cold Snap and be fine.
  • Nerf Flameglow and buff Ice Barrier / reintroduce Temporal Shield (not the OP version). In PvP the best talent option should always be the one you have to push a button for its effect. Flameglow should be a worse option, but more casual friendly while Ice Barrier would be the best option if used correctly.
  • Change Ring of Frost & Frostjaw. I think having 2 schools of CC is way too strong and if you are going to have 2 schools of CC, your Frost school CC should be a lot worse than your arcane. Ring of Frost duration changed to < 6 seconds. This would reward druids for shapeshifting Deep Freeze, but also reward mages who can land their Deep Sheeps. You could do the same with Frostjaw, you could also remove the root effect making it just a blanket silence which is still very powerful in WoD, or make it DR with Sheep making it less useful for chaining CC.
Since we are on the topic of changing Mages:
  • Go away from AoE based Frost Mage spells like Prismatic Crystal, Ice Nova, Comet Storm, Unstable Magic, Frost Bomb. I get that this is like a buff to CC but balancing Polymorph around having AoE damage that breaks it is wrong.
