#3869386 Tournament announced and Junkie status change!

1.) Arena Junkies Pet Battle Invitationals

Pet Battles are PvP! Pet battles will now be featured by ArenaJunkies and  we are looking for guides, videos and the AJ Pet Battle Invitational will soon be hosted. Our marketing team determined that there is much larger viewer base available for pet battles than for arena battles. Based on this we also decided to have a 18000$ price pool for the first tournament. The rules will be double elimination and we will have qualifiers on selected US & EU PvP realms. You will have to choose a comp of three pets prior to the tournament and are not allowed to change them. We got the confirmation that Brian Holinka himself will be co-commentating the final round. Lovely to see such a support by Blizzard!

2.) Junkie status change

In the past many players bought Junkie access over boosts and similar shady things. We decided it is not determinable by us who might or might not be a real junkies. So we decided to replace the Junkie requirement with the Brutally Dedicated achievement and give access to everyone with that achievement. We think 300 won arena matches prove someone knows what he is talking about and can be a viable member of this site.

Note: This feature will be implemented soon along with an update of the forum software.

3.) Female gamer support

We noticed that comments about female streamers were often not as respectful as they could have been. We decided to counter this by featuring streams of female gamers more prominently in the future. We also consider doing "Girl of the month" vote on female streamers in the tradition of World of Ming. If you want your stream featured please send Hildegard a private message and add some screenshots of your stream.

4.) Suggestions needed!

We are sill looking for your suggestions to make ArenaJunkies better. Just reply to this thread and let us know what you think about the latest changes

#3866108 Teamates getting discouraged too easily.

Posted GrieverXIII on 24 March 2013 - 05:31 AM

Note : Would be great if this thread didn't get destroyed by pointless elitism or flat out trolling this website has been subject to for a while, i'm sure i'm not the only one that ran into that kind of issues before so i feel the discussion could be useful to more people than myself.

So, i'm playing with friends atm, both great guys i have fun with but without much experience at the higher end of the arena pole (their higher point was 2300ish in S8 where glad was like 2600-2700ish).

Always seem to see the same trend when i play in this kind of teams tough, first people are all pumped up and pretty much end up generating ridiculous expectations out of it "yeah gonna be nice gonna get glad easy blablabla".

Then we play and build our MMR and all is great again until we hit "that wall" where we actually need to start working towards improving as a team, ours was around 2k this season (wich is like top 50ish on our bgroup) atm. We were rank 35ish at some point so i don't think we were doing awefull for a new team working together.

Personally i try to be positive and i'm sure we can keep going if we work towards it and try to have fun and think its kinda pointless to worry too much about rating 2 weeks into the season, i try to spark some discussions, try out new strategies, try different calls etc to improve our chances while also listening to their opinions etc, to try to spark some teamwork.

Sadly most of those team i've been on always reach a point where people either cares way too much about rating or w/l while i don't feel its relevant or just feel discouraged at making no progress and just want to quit, or just complains about game balance non-stop or find a new team or whatever. I feel my current team has reached that point again and i'm really fucking tired of dealing with this, its not the first time and i don't feel it will be the last

How should i deal with it? Is 2 week as a new team enough to reach the top 0.5% of the ladder, if it doesn't work just call it quit or am i actually right to try and work for it? I just feel people always expect instant success and i'm sick of it.

Maybe its my attitude thats wrong? Maybe i should expect success faster like them?

I mean i want to keep playing with them, i know they're great players, one of them was Grand Master in SC2 at some point and the other is just really fun to have around, i'm just really tired of dealing with emo bullshit anytime there's a stone in the way.

Idk, only times i reached high points in the ladder was playing with past season's glad, experience goes a long way i guess.

The ladder being completly deflated doesn't help, they seem to make a big deal we're stuck at 1900-2k when by some of earlier season's standards we would be 2400+ judging by the rankings.

How do you deal with that kind of things, if some of you remember some of your first glad pushes, or even Rank 1 pushes, or things like that, is it normal? How should i try to motivate them again? Should we just chain reroll teams until we get a result that seems to satisfy them? Out of ideas.

show the full games instead of just the kills, seeing how you work towards them is more interesting then just a crit montage imo.

Hey guys and girls of World of Warcraft! This is my third major video release. It's long past due in my opinion but it has been increasingly difficult to get good footage with the current state of the game. I decided to do another multi-perspective video but this time have every perspective of me (I guess it's a multi-class video then). If people enjoy this format, I will try to continue to release more multi-perspective videos. If not, I can just stick to druid ;P.

Please bear in mind that this video is for entertainment! I am not trying to showcase impeccable skill; I am always learning and trying to improve at this game. That being said, of course there will be mistakes. I do, however, try and highlight any particularly clutch moves with text annotation on the bottom right hand side of the screen. I feel like it is often difficult to watch a montage when there is no indication of what is going on and where the viewer's eyes should be focused.

Sit back, grab some Natty Lights, smoke some bowls and enjoy this video! If you have the bandwidth to do so, watch this video in High Definition.

MUSIC (in order of appearance)

Flo Rida - I Cry
Dick Dale - Miserlou
Modeselektor - The Dark Side of the Sun
Come Together (DJ Prince 2013 Remix)
Steerner Tjernberg ft Brenton_Mattheus - Zyzz Original Mix
Edvard Grieg - Morning Mood
Rhapsody of Fire - When Demons Awake
The Who - Behind Blue Eyes
Childish Gambino - Freaks And Geeks
Jakwob - Blinding (Hybrid Minds Remix)
Weezer Memories

Why are you a troll druid?
I personally have never liked Warstomp. I like to play with rogues and mages and warstomp can DR their stuns. I also like to play 2v2 and Heart of the Wild + Troll racial Wrath spam is a lot of damage.

How are you an undead?
I am using a program called tMorph to modify my character model (search on google). If you like the work of the author, don't hesitate to donate!

What comp is best for druids?
Mage, Spriest, rDruid is probably the strongest ladder comp for resto druids at the moment.

#3853490 Conviq Rises (Part 1)

I was asked by Conviq to forward this to the video-forums as it'd get more attention here rather than the waiting room. He doesn't have the privileges to post in junkies.

Apparently there were copyright-issues on youtube, so for now this link should suffice.

Don't shoot the messenger.

#3847694 Guild Wars 2: Guru's State of the Game

Posted Pride7 on 11 February 2013 - 09:03 PM

I've talked about it with some friends who (we all played gw1 since roughly launch time) and we came to some general conclusions:

1. MMOs just gravitate to a monopoly because of time and gw2, unfortunately, is more of a time sink (pve) than gw1, so its hard to draw people in who play wow.  Its hard to play gw2 and wow at the same time, but the same cannot be said for playing wow and gw1.  As long as wow is around, gw2 can't kill wow unless it is downright better in all aspects and has better marketing.

2. weapon system is cool but is far too limiting.  in gw1 you choose 8 skills from two classes and you can make whatever you want.  with weapon systems you basically get limited to few skills you personally get to choose, and you also forced to take an elite skill (not a problem, but you get far less choices for elites where as in gw1 you could pick any elite from 2 classes.  This was SUPPOSED to be balanced by weapon choice, but unfortunately not every weapon is equal and some are required.

3. lengedaries imba.  in gw1 you could get any max dmg weapon and mod it and it would be the best you could get.  skins and armor were cosmetic.  with legendaries, you have to grind for the best item (pve wise), which is cool but you don't get to pick a skin, which is just not guildwars at all.

3a. counter argument would be, "oh well if everything is cosmetic than nobody will want to progress to get anything, they'll just be content." purely not true, how your pve character looked in both pve AND if you could mod it to be useful in pvp was so much fun and so many people spent absurd money/time to make themselves look cool/original.  If 60% of armor looks like dirt and the other 40% are expensive or take time to make, people will take the time to make themselves look good, and because your dirt was functionally the same as the cool looking armor, you didn't have to if you didn't want to.

personal problems:

1. no healers is fine, but no prot monk?  a design in which you have reactive and preparatory spells, and the less reactive casts you make the more energy you and your monk partner save?  best healer design in mmos, period.  its not a problem they dropped it and healers, its a shame.

1a. no healers is also a bad marketing choice, imo.  I personally prefer healers and can't find the time to play gw2 because i outwardly don't enjoy any of the classes to spend my time on playing one.

2. maps.  cap point out the ass.  i can't even complain how fucking boring it is to stand on a node game after game.  HA had so many different map styles and there were so many different gvg maps your comp had to be able to address in gw1, now you have cap point.

3. cd length is so atrocious.  ill call it the reckful argument, and games should realize it by now: do not make 2+minute or even 1.5+minute cds.  MOBAs: longest cd I can think of is blackhole in dota2, and that shit is fucking imba, but most cds are 4-20 secs and ulties 1-1.5mins.  gw1: most abilities were 1-20 seconds, minus some spirits etc? now we have 1min cd utilities and 3 min cd elites, seriously boring.

FORTUNATELY, anet is really good about making their games improve (nightfall and eotn were much improved over an already improved factions, and gw2 contains many combat changes that are 1000000x better than wow).  I think they'll improve, but it will take time.  All of my complaints can be fixed, except maybe the class preference, which will just depend on what they add to the game.

tl;dr- gw2 improved in someways, but is just not gw1, and they dropped a lot of really cool parts.

#3845344 I remember when

Posted Thaya on 06 February 2013 - 02:54 AM

Playing this game for the first time on your own, back in Vanilla when people cared less about end game and more about the experience as a whole, was a great time. I almost feel sorry for all the people who joined in later and got pushed through the content or used something lame like Recruit a Friend - that should've been something they introduced for alts, not new players. Levels were much slower (I'm talking like, 4-5 times slower) and you went through several "level plateaus" that each had a little meta game of their own, with the instance farming for specific items, PvP hot spots, and even active battlegrounds. Honestly, end game was less active than 49s for the first few months of a new server.

Not to mention how many new contacts you got just by leveling. No queueing, no cross realm, only the chat and interaction with other people on your server. No transfers, no name changes, nobody going in, nobody going out. The reputation you had was yours and you couldn't change it for 15 bucks. Elite/group quests that weren't soloable. Asking to group up with people waiting for a quest NPC to spawn, because they only spawn once every 20 minutes. People not being douchebags because they know their reputation has a weight and because they are more interested in exploring the game than being cunts, besides, they could be exploring an instance with you in a few levels.

You couldn't leave a guild and insult everybody in it, because the other guilds on the server would know about it the same day.

Do you remember walking first time into Stormwind?

god damn

Seeing how its all like a real city, tons of players running around busy doing stuff or just exploring like yourself. Tons of NPCs everywhere, and it's all in motion. Those towers looking like real, gigantic towers. A keep that looks like an actual keep. Libraries, shops, taverns, park, mage tower, canals...
