Difference between top comps and not-so-much top comps is that the not-so-much top comps have a few more counters and comps they struggle against. But in the end, if you play much better than the enemy team, you win as all those comps that I listed. Granted, I never said they are the best possible comps, but you said that shatterplay is the only good comp for a mage which is so far from the truth.
Not really. All the comps you mentioned will not do too good on the ladder given a large sample of games. Some occurrences of them appearing to do well has a lot to do with two things.
1- The team is formed with people who play arena 5+ hours a day. If you queue enough , you will eventually have a session where counter comps are offline. How do I know? Because I face the comps you mentioned all the time, they lose miserably due to comp and they don't have decent mmr, I don't get to face them other days because I don't play as much and when I check the ladder next week, I see them in top 30.
2- Sometimes, those teams have 3 amazing players, so they manage to do good. Ex: s12 mirlol rmp at 2500+ or so.

The comps should not be evaluated over the results of world class players or no life arena queuers that ended up having a decent session due to no counter comps showing up eventually.
So excluding few exceptions, people who don't play with amazing partners, will have really hard time if they don't play a T1 comp, that has always been a problem in wow arena, but right now it is at its worst state because the damage and instant cc doesn't allow you to play "much better"

I get the feeling this is sarcasm, but I'll go ahead and point out that deep freeze is a 30 second cooldown and Divine Protection is a 1 min cooldown.

Pretty cool ability, stuns you and makes you take double damage from the person who stunned you, and it's on a short cooldown.  They should have went through with the change to make it break on damage or not benefit from shatter damage.

Rofl your mage bias is so painfully obvious in every single one of your fucking posts, we get it man you are a holy paladin. If you'd take the time to play literally any other healer you'd realize that mage soloing issue is only relevant to your class, nerfing something as core to the mage skillset as deep freeze would SEVERELY limit it against other classes while conveniently making it balanced against yours (blizzard realized that and that's why it didn't go through). Should I go to every thread relevant to Ferals and bitch and moan about they can shift every single one of my roots all while being immune to my only other form of crowd control, polymorph, aside from ring and deep? No, because this game isn't about 1v1 and I have two other partners on my team that can coordinate with me to work around this handicap. Your narrow mindedness is a plague and one of the reasons class vs class egotism is existent.
