#3926237 5.4 PvP interview with Brian Holinka & Greg 'GhostCrawler' Street

Ask them if they can revert to Burning Crusade Arenas.

Also if they plan on bringing title's back to the 2v2 bracket and if they're going to fix the MMR exploit of doing arenas at level 70 to 2800 MMR, then leveling to 90 and still have the same MMR.

TBC arenas were 1000x worse than MoP arenas could ever get, stop letting nostalgia cover up reality.

#3917837 no more 34sec tremor

Posted Wallirik on 24 July 2013 - 07:00 PM

Totemic Restoration has been replaced with a new talent, Totemic Persistence.
  • New talent: Totemic Persistence. Summoning a second totem of the same element no longer causes the first totem to be destroyed. Only one totem can benefit from this effect at a time.
I couldn't see a thread on this(delete this if there already is one), and it makes me quite happy.

#3922049 Reasons why 2v2 should be a competitive bracket

Posted Woundman on 03 August 2013 - 05:03 AM

2v2 should be competitive again. Why? PvPers will have more incentive to play, when they can't find a 3rd player. I usually just log off when I can't find a 3rd player.

3v3 is just as imbalanced as 2v2. What people hate most about 2v2 is how long games can last, but that would be easily fix with a stronger healing reduction compared to 3v3 and 5v5.

PvP is a minority because of how unrewarding it is. A simple way to make PvP rewarding is to make unique rewards every week.

Blizzard needs to implement a spectator client. A spectator client will allow players to run their own tournaments easier and make viewing the tournaments far more enjoyable (less delays).

Just repeating what has been said a million times in the past. Never going to happen, but one can dream right?

#3890908 Hydra XI

Posted bareblar03 on 23 May 2013 - 04:41 PM

I just got done watching it and it is absolutely incredible, some of the clips are beyond belief in terms of coordination and timing. I'm sad to say that for once I finally believe that this is going to be the last Hydra film and what a way to end his reign.

I've been watching Hydra religiously since season 2 when I first started playing and I can almost guarantee I would not be the player I am today if not for him, I'd still be keyboard turning and clicking and complaining on the forums about balance issues. I have so much gratitude to Hydra for his videos for their entertainment purpose and for how much they have taught me.

I'm obviously not Hydra nor will I ever be but here it is for all to enjoy

I wish you the best of luck in your life Hydra and I want to say on behalf of the (sometimes ungrateful) WoW community - Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for your time and effort spent on showing us shitters how it's done.

#3878696 tremor totem is a old and dumb mechanic

Posted Djandawg on 22 April 2013 - 04:20 PM

l2p and cross cc shaman, cool but what if I want to cc the shaman with my fear, is it ok that he has a tremor almost always? Disc priest has a "melee range" fear, I go out of position, risk getting swapped/cc'd into oblivion, if by a miracle I reach him, he has tremor. It is not hard to kite for a few seconds until the tremor is back up.
Other healers lose games when warlock/priest/warrior instant fear hits them, shaman doesn't and this is a problem.

You serious right? We are comparing an aoe fear break to a fear break with the same cd? And what rock paper scissors? Warriors never countered locks they were just strong against them. And since the zeker nerf priests can land fears on warriors. You people don't understand what would mean to remove zeker rage from warriors. Warriors' current toolset is similar to what other classes had in 2008 and you want to strip them even from those?  What's next? Removing charge?

If zerker was removed from warriors or given a longer cd it would mean.....warriors get feared like every other melee? Put it on a 2 minute cd, put tremor on a 2 minute cd, increase the cd on priest fear to 40 seconds, give warlock fear a 5 second cd.

Fears do break on damage, I'm pretty sure the threshold is 10% max hp. You don't lose half your health, that is a gross exaggeration. If it's not breaking on damage it's because our dots laughable aren't hitting hard enough to break it for a few seconds.

I think as a whole totemic restoration should just have totems be a longer cooldown, i.e instead of reducing the cooldown by 50%, maybe 25% would be a good number.

Windwalk totem owns as well, 45s tremor imo would be fair.

Despite ele / enhance being kind of bad, having a tremor for your healer every 30secs is a little extreme. Your healer will get out of fear as often as a resto shaman would.

LOL? 45 s tremor would be okay? are you fucking high or something? jesus christ

#3873772 The sad, sad state of warriors

Posted Braindance on 11 April 2013 - 05:29 AM

The golden age
It pains me to say that, but no one can refuse that WotLK was by far the best era for warriors. 10 second spell reflect, charge and intercept, amazing damage, bladestorm, strong sword and board play. In retrospect it was a paradise - you had every tool you needed in your disposal. There were lots and lots of things separating a good from a bad warrior, mainly because of our skill set variety.

The current age
Through cata and MoP, we have been stripped of everything:
  • Our defensive play relies on a passive skill and a ridiculous stance, without much action required from our part
  • Niche abilities have been removed from our arsenal - intercept, shield block, baseline bladestorm
  • The new rage system, while ideal for pve, is a total failure in pvp
  • Many of our abilities are frozen in time since WotLK or even BC
In this new era of abilities like cloak and dagger and RoP we don't have much to offer apart from our damage which is rivaled and even surpassed by other classes now - dks and mages(!?) come to mind. As Veev said, our playstyle is straight Hulk Smash. We have 0 finesse moves to "shine", mainly because we don't have sufficient tools to react to various situations. Eg. we once had improved hamstring and we were one of the very few classes with a disarm. Now almost everyone has a root effect and a disarm. We used to have MS, but its importance has vastly diminished over the years.

Long story short, even though we are still viable, the playstyle plainly Sucks (with a capital s). All you do is damage. Getting trained? Go defensive stance and still do damage. Partner dying? Use a shockwave, throw a charge, do damage and hope for the best.

We are heavily dependent on long cooldowns.Sure, throwing heavy crits every 3 mins is fun, but it becomes quite boring after a while.

Shield wall is by far the most outdated, pathetic cooldown in the game. 40% damage reduction every 5 minutes - requires a shield. Let's take a look at the more fancy melee cooldowns of 2013:
  • Icebound fortitude: 20% damage reduction, stun immunity for 12 seconds, 3 minute cooldown
  • Combat readiness: 10% mitigation that stacks up to 5 every time you are hit by a melee or ranged attack, 20 second duration, 2 minute cooldown
  • Cloak of shadows: no comment
  • Anti-magic shell: no comment
  • Shamanistic rage: 30% damage reduction, usable while stunned, 1 minute cooldown
  • Survival instincts: 50% damage reduction, 3 minute cooldown
  • Divine protection: 40% magic damage reduction, 1 minute cooldown
  • Barkskin: 20% damage reduction, 1 minute cooldown
It is immediately apparent that all of those abilities have the following common traits:
  • They all have relatively small cooldowns

  • They provides bonuses with minimal trade offs, allowing the user to stay offensive
I am not even gonna compare things like deterrence, dispersion etc. While it is true that we were given a strong 2 min cd defensive cooldown, it doesn't make up for the fact that once shield wall is down you are almost always 100% dead. It is a far superior, and more involved playstyle, to have short defensive cds that you can use proactively or actively before/ during every big swap.
Of course I am not implying that some of the classes with the above cds are better than warriors right now - they are not, but their weaknesses lie in various sectors and not in their defensive cds department.

A more involved playstyle
Changes have to happen, to make our playstyle more interesting, involved and, at the same time, less frustrating to our opponents:
  • It is an affront to any intelligent player, having to play with second wind and a moronic, bloated, passive -% damage reduction. it is reminiscent of s5 dk playstyle in a weaker form. Make defensive stance a mere 10% damage reduction - bring back sword and board. 10 second reflect back -  being "op" in rbgs was a joke in the first place

  • The rage system has to change. Whilst the active component of rage gains is OK, the passive one blows. We used to be angry all the time with a glowing red bad underneath our healthbars when trained - now I can have a mage and an sp blowing their loads all over my screen and my character is calm like a lamb

  • Introduce training protection - warriors ALWAYS had training protection either in the form of rage or enrage. I am not asking for a 25% enrage to come back, but rage MUST come back

  • To keep pressure up outside of cds we have to use almost every global to do damage. We don't have the luxury of casting sheeps, or blinking all over the map to  gain momentum. Therefore it is unfair to have hamstring fill 20% of our globals. Almost every melee has its slow integrated in a main attack - why is this not the case for us? Either that, or force all other melees to manually apply their slow every 6 seconds like we do. And 7 rage for a hamstring when your auto attack every ~3 seconds generates 12 rage IF in battle stance is a no-no

  • Why are some of our most interesting abilities in the same talent tier? Why is safeguard in the same tier as mass spell reflect? Why is piercing howl not baseline?

  • Berserk stance in pvp is almost entirely worthless. It is good for pve but it has 0 pvp usage - I've tried it countless times and it's so situational it's not worth wasting the 3  sec cds on stances

  • Why do stances have 3 sec cooldown...?
I am not optimistic at all knowing Blizzard. It is a shame that things like trinkets or single abilities are looked at, but classes in a more global, dynamic scale are neglected. I also don't believe that the new pvp developer wants to push such drastic changes into place. At best, they will keep tweaking numbers. But because hope is a human thing, I shed my thoughts here waiting for a miracle.

Tell me what you think.

#3866718 Vortex through pillars - fair?

Posted Saikx on 25 March 2013 - 08:15 PM

no vortex+solarbeam itself is a retarded and not fair mechanic, they should remove this shit from the game(i.e. if you use vortex your solarbeam is on cd for the duration and vice versa)

also while I am at it, remove fucking knockbacks from arena

#3865081 Problematic abilities.

Posted Filthpig on 22 March 2013 - 12:16 AM

  • Feel as if they're in a good place right now. Cooldown stacking is still stupid.
  • I think warriors may become a victim of "balanced class disorder" where they don't seem as good because overpowered classes are just so much better.

  • Still no viable spec, aff and destro have a small representation on the ladders but are still completely sub par to mage or spriest.
  • Demo knock off is completely overpowered. Needs at least 5s added to CD.
  • Lock healing cooldowns should be nerfed in exchange for old soul link back.
  • Demonic Gateway should either be removed from arena or invoke a minute or longer cooldown for each player.

  • Blanket CS should be removed from the game.
  • Mages do way way way too much damage.
  • Deep Freeze cooldown is too short, is CS and damage get tuned should be fine.
  • Pyroblast damage is under the radar right now, it's pretty hilarious.

  • Shuriken Toss spam does more damage than a hunter. Derp.
  • Subterfuge is kind of retarded.
  • Paralytic poison puts rogues over the top on CC.
  • Not rogue in particular, but everyone in the game stealths now, I find it absurd for people to be given good openers every game with no effort. Maybe Mass Concealment should go.

  • Solar Beam is getting a bandaid (yay)
  • Instant starsurges should do less damage than casted ones.
  • Cyclone should DR with polymorph so godcomp isn't so fucking dominant.
  • Symbiosis needs serious tuning, too gamebreaking.
  • Feral does too much damage during cooldowns, can solo any healer easily if left alone for like two seconds.

  • Insanity hits too hard.
  • Mass Dispel for shadow is game breaking.
  • Lifeswap should be Discipline only or put dispersion on cooldown.
  • Shadow Priests heal for too much.. still....
  • Spirit Shell seems kind of overtuned.
  • Psyfiend still spam fears targets - was supposed to be fixed in patch.
  • Power Word Shield crits, because that's needed.

  • Tremor totem cooldown is still shorter than most fear abilities in the game.
  • Resto mastery is funny.
  • Healing stream totem heals for too much.
  • Ele seems to be at least playable now, maybe more buffs.
  • Enh is total garbage, buffs.
  • Giving all totems health was a step in the right direction, but I still feel that spirit link should be killable.

  • Even though monks are really bad Ring of Peace is completely absurd and should be given a longer cooldown. Can currently use on every DPS CD (dark soul, dance, Bestial Wrath, etc.)
  • Spear Hand Strike shouldn't silence if you miss the cast. Sorry - it's ridiculous.

Death Knight
  • Double Grip, if you fail to icy touch the grounding down that's tough shit. Double gripping into fears will get dumb again too.
  • Asphyxiate should have a longer cooldown, as if death knights needed another way to interrupt casters/healers.
  • Desecrated Ground - area of zero CC, what game is this?
  • Frost does retarded damage, spamming out 100k obliterates and frost strikes is kinda stupid for instant abilities.

  • Sac for ret shouldn't dispel shit, I'm sorry, if dispel is going to have a cooldown then there should be no defensive dispels on non healers.
  • Holy seems to be alright now that they can't CC chain you as easily.

  • Powershot hit's way too hard.
  • Hunter damage in general is too high and derpy and too cooldown based.
  • 8 sec nondispellable root is pretty ridiculous if I do say so myself.

Lemme know if I missed anything. Yes, nerf everything.
