Probably running this, but even so they were super questionable.

I don't need sham rage outside of orbs, so everytime they used orbs, i used it also because i needed mana. i was oom the entire match from the kitting and purge spam.

And i also don't see how that was the problem since my hunter was dying both games.

We lost because they had pressure the entire match, so we couldn't go in and get traps and from there it's an snow ball and we probably should've targeted lock more because blazzing speed+gate+blink.

Not quite sure you got my point. I play LSD2 atm, we do insane spread pressure but compared to 160k soul reapers and mongoloid warior damage we cant really do much. On the PTR, boomkins do 260k starsurges, destro locks can pull off 270k++ chaos bolts. Here my chaos crits for 60k with no dark soul, maybe a lucky 100k with dark soul up, Its fcking retarded when hunters can do 140k chimeare shots.

Oh, let me get this right. You're comparing an execute doing high dmg to a proc that you can get as a boomkin to one-shot someone and to a warlock casting a spell that he can actually spam for insane dmg?

Oh ok. Maybe i'm just spoiled in not wanting games revolved around 1-shot. My bad.

Anyways, no point derailing this topic further, seeing as it's a good topic.

Looking forward to the tourney! Hopefully a lot of different comps will be playing.

1. I do hold a genuine belief that boosts are good for the game. At the very least, I don't believe that boosts are destructive to the arena ladder.
4. I would acknowledge the fact that I should have tried harder to beat a team. The one thing that has been killing the competitive community is that people are often unwilling to reflect on the fact that their bad performance might be because they themselves are the problem. No joke, people are often unwilling to LEARN TO PLAY.

because if there were 200 titles available from the US ladder, and those 200 spots were made up of jahmilli having 39 alt mages + 10 mage boosts, 39 alt shadowpriests + 10 shadowpriest boosts, elitex having 49 alt paladins and pikaboo having 39 alt rogues + 10 rogue boosts, so the highest you could get was rank 201 duelist, you obviously still wouldn't see the issue, other then it being a l2p issue on your part? :D
I'm curious enough to repeat my post to see if I get a direct answer from you

1. I do hold a genuine belief that boosts are good for the game. At the very least, I don't believe that boosts are destructive to the arena ladder.

2. This is just a really bad argument. "Boosts are bad because it is against the TOS." The reason why this arguement is bad is because it ends: there is nothing further to be discussed. If your only justification in making a claim on the ethics of an action is to explain that is "against the rules" then you have closed off any further discussion. Perhaps the TOS we are provided with needs to be reworked. Are you honestly that willing to submit yourself to an unquestioned list of rules?

3. You are once again making a claim about someone else's beliefs from your OWN framework. Knock it off. Also, we are not dealing with eSports, so I don't see how this argument even works. If WoW was an eSport, your agument still wouldn't hold. Surely any eSport event would be composed of the best of the best, something which could easily comb out the people who purchased boosts. (ie, you don't see people getting boosted playing at the WoW regional tournaments, do you?)

4. I would acknowledge the fact that I should have tried harder to beat a team. The one thing that has been killing the competitive community is that people are often unwilling to reflect on the fact that their bad performance might be because they themselves are the problem. No joke, people are often unwilling to LEARN TO PLAY.

I like the format.

1. I find that hard to believe, and i don't see how having boosts in the ladder isn't destructive? Imagine if at the olympics, the people get Gold (R1) Silver (Glad) and Bronze (Duelist) where the same guy, and Duelist his boost. If the booster hadn't boosted the bronze medaler, the person who is bronze medal skilled, would have gotten it. I feel it's very destructive.

2. So, explain to me why it shouldn't be against the ToS? I get WoW isn't an Esport anymore, but it was. And we should adapt the strict guidelines the other Esports games right now whos communities are growing every day. LoL & Dota.

3. Kettu was arguing with 3 / 4 people earlier in the thread. Reading his posts is like he's trying to troll me, saying the ladders shouls look like the one he made with 51 boosts and alts before a real 4th player. Either he is really 100% bhind his argument, or he's playing Devils advocate for the sake of the argument, which in my opinion is what he's doing.

4. More than one thing is killing the community. People not willing to learn doesn't hurt the community, it hurts themselves, i know there are plenty of people in Rival/Duelist range who believe they are Gladiator level players and blame blizzard/class/teammates for their failure, but you honestly believe if the ladder looked like this:

R1 Cutoff
Warlock (We'll call him tim)
Mage (John)
Shaman (Ted)
Druid

Gladiator Cutoff
Warrior
Mage (A boost john did)
Paladin
Shaman (A boost ted did)
Warlock (A boosts tim did)

Duelist Cutoff
You
Your teammate
Shaman

You would look at that ladder and 'acknowledge' you should have tried harder to beat a team? Why? You where a Gladiator level player that season, you played at what was Gladiator level. If those boost hadn't been done you would have gotten Gladiator.  If the ladder wasn't corrupt you would have a Gladiator title.

Wether not you need to learn to play more, or you're complacent, you where cheated by an unregulated system.

i agree with kettu on this one

boosts are functionally equivalent to alts. in fact, they are almost EXACTLY the same thing.

the people who complain about boosts, as mentioned, are the ones who often lose to boosts. which means they are upset at losing to something which is functionally equivalent to an alt.

why would any person be upset by this? i think its an l2p issue. boosts are actually good for the game because they force the gladiator player to actually improve their play against players that they would face at higher ratings

i dont see the issue

Not sure if trolling.  Either way, I think the alt analogy is very interesting, and I'm still trying to piece it together why they feel different.  Here are the three ways they seem different to me, right now (more may come later).

1. The way the MMR system works.  I'm not an expert on this by any means, but the MMR system doesn't expect a player's true MMR to jump from 1800 to 2500 over night.  When you log on a sell, you're dramatically fucking with the MMR system, which expects a player's true skill to change slowly, over time.  When it jumps 700 points over night, it's slow to change, because the system thinks it has the player pretty well figured out.
2. Alts are also somewhat damaging to the ladder system, IMO, although not as damaging as boosts.  Getting into that is another issue entirely, but if we just take it for granted, then I think we're in a situation where boosts are practically speaking more damaging because of time investment.  A boost costs a player only ~5 hours to muck up the ladder, but an alt takes more like ~5 days /played to muck up the ladder.  It's much more costly for a player to have alts, so it happens less, and is therefore less damaging.
3. Perception.  When players play against an alt, they usually know whose alt it is, and can feel pretty good about the game, win or lose ("oh man we almost beat X!").  But losing to faceless/nameless randoms that seem to be impossibly hard at 2300 MMR would be incredibly discouraging, comparatively.

sorry, I'm not sure i wrote my point well enough

I think the biggest thing destroying this community is the ladder at the end of every season being 50%+ boosts/carries, and the people doing those boosts and then posting in this thread that they hope the wow community will improve are a bit of a joke

the second biggest thing is precisely what nadagastt said, people need to start realising that there are things that they can do to affect the outcome of their own arena games, and not just fall back on LOL the other team had a warrior/mage/rogue/hunter/druid/dk/shaman/warlock/whatever  or LOL sorry my class is horrible i cant do anything or LOL Holinka is a fucking idiot or LOL I hate this game but I still continue to play it

i think an awful lot of frustration and anger on this site comes from the fact that people have simply forgotten that a loss can be their own fault as well, and that not everyone enters their very first arena as gods gift to whatever class they are playing, and that investing time into a class that you enjoy is far more rewarding in the long term then fotm rerolling and then endlessly crying when the fotm train moves on and you get left behind

I completely agree with you.  Awhile ago, someone pointed out to me how harmful carries were to the community.  I never did very many carries, but nowadays I do zero.  I don't think the harm done to the community is worth the small monetary benefit.  I try to relate this to players who I play with when they talk about carries, but it's hard and they often shrug off the negative effects with excuses.  They are kidding themselves.

To high level players: I'd implore you to think about the effect carries have on an important and large segment of our community--up and coming players and new (attempting to be) gladiators.  It's fucking discouraging for them to be facing opponents that should be several hundred MMR higher than them, but which are really even, because of carries.  You should stop doing carries.

I'm sure everyone has seen how much trolling and general douchebaggery have infected AJ.  I'd like it to stop.

Trolling and assholery puts AJ on a downward spiral.  People troll/asshole-it-up, which leads to less people using this as a forum for serious/reasonable discussion, which leads to more trolling, etc.  AJ always was and continues to be the most popular place for new players to get into the PvP scene.  Any community relies on new members to sustain itself--by making this place a wasteland we are doing nothing but ensuring our own demise.

Before you post a reply or topic, ask yourself: am I being an asshole?  If you are, change your post to take a more educational tone.  If you're feeling heated about something, take some time to cool off before replying.  Don't immediately assume someone is trolling you, some people are just not very knowledgeable.  Worst case, if you reply in a calm educational manner, you've posted something informative for the hundreds or thousands of lurkers who will view your reply.  These are generally newer PvPers, and anything you do to help sustain them as arena players helps all of us.

On any set of forums, it's easy to forget that almost all of the people reading it are lurkers, who will never make any posts.  Lurkers cannot be trolls, they can't be assholes, they are just here to learn or read interesting things.  Post interesting, informative content.  Post drama if you want, but don't be an asshole.  Fuck the trolls, post for the lurkers.
