#3866108 Teamates getting discouraged too easily.

Posted GrieverZ on 24 March 2013 - 05:31 AM

Note : Would be great if this thread didn't get destroyed by pointless elitism or flat out trolling this website has been subject to for a while, i'm sure i'm not the only one that ran into that kind of issues before so i feel the discussion could be useful to more people than myself.

So, i'm playing with friends atm, both great guys i have fun with but without much experience at the higher end of the arena pole (their higher point was 2300ish in S8 where glad was like 2600-2700ish).

Always seem to see the same trend when i play in this kind of teams tough, first people are all pumped up and pretty much end up generating ridiculous expectations out of it "yeah gonna be nice gonna get glad easy blablabla".

Then we play and build our MMR and all is great again until we hit "that wall" where we actually need to start working towards improving as a team, ours was around 2k this season (wich is like top 50ish on our bgroup) atm. We were rank 35ish at some point so i don't think we were doing awefull for a new team working together.

Personally i try to be positive and i'm sure we can keep going if we work towards it and try to have fun and think its kinda pointless to worry too much about rating 2 weeks into the season, i try to spark some discussions, try out new strategies, try different calls etc to improve our chances while also listening to their opinions etc, to try to spark some teamwork.

Sadly most of those team i've been on always reach a point where people either cares way too much about rating or w/l while i don't feel its relevant or just feel discouraged at making no progress and just want to quit, or just complains about game balance non-stop or find a new team or whatever. I feel my current team has reached that point again and i'm really fucking tired of dealing with this, its not the first time and i don't feel it will be the last

How should i deal with it? Is 2 week as a new team enough to reach the top 0.5% of the ladder, if it doesn't work just call it quit or am i actually right to try and work for it? I just feel people always expect instant success and i'm sick of it.

Maybe its my attitude thats wrong? Maybe i should expect success faster like them?

I mean i want to keep playing with them, i know they're great players, one of them was Grand Master in SC2 at some point and the other is just really fun to have around, i'm just really tired of dealing with emo bullshit anytime there's a stone in the way.

Idk, only times i reached high points in the ladder was playing with past season's glad, experience goes a long way i guess.

The ladder being completly deflated doesn't help, they seem to make a big deal we're stuck at 1900-2k when by some of earlier season's standards we would be 2400+ judging by the rankings.

How do you deal with that kind of things, if some of you remember some of your first glad pushes, or even Rank 1 pushes, or things like that, is it normal? How should i try to motivate them again? Should we just chain reroll teams until we get a result that seems to satisfy them? Out of ideas.

#3838752 Block Skype Resolvers From Capturing Your IP Address (Protection from DDOS)

Posted zaeya on 21 January 2013 - 08:06 PM

Poppychulo posted a thread covering how to protect yourself from DDOS without using a proxy. This actually works, despite the fact that you may or may not trust him. He didn't write the VBS script and I remembered seeing it on a few forums during the summer and can confirm that this does work.

The reason people are so easily able to pull your IP right now is because of an exploit in the way Skype is programmed. By making use of this exploit, your IP is exposed as long as Skype is sending/receiving data with your username as long as you are connected to the internet and Skype is on your computer. This is why, despite numerous Skype username and IP changes, you could still be instantly DDOS'd again. The only way to combat this, other than removing Skype or never connecting to the internet without an intermediate connection, is to patch Skype to fix the exploit, effectively blocking Skype resolvers from capturing your IP address.

This works for Windows XP and up, I will work on writing one for Macs. You need to have TOR installed. (https://www.torproject.org/)

I personally just downloaded the TOR Expert Bundle and ran TOR.exe with elevated privileges. The default configuration (torrc) works with this script as it is. You could also download the Vidalia bundle and change the configurations. There are several YouTube video Tutorials on setting it up with various applications.

Make sure to change your IP AFTER patching Skype. You will need to do this because resolvers return the last known good IP if they are unable to find the current one.

Quit Skype.

Open notepad and copy and paste this VBS script :

Script:

Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
ss= objShell.RegRead ("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Skype\Phone\SkypePath")
ss= """" + ss + """"
'Add Block rule
objShell.run "netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=""SkypeBlockTCP"" dir=out action=block program=" + ss + " enable=yes protocol=any profile=any"
'Add Allow rule
objShell.run "netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=""SkypeAllowToProxy"" dir=out action=allow program=" + ss + " enable=yes remoteip=127.0.0.1"
'Turn On firewall
objShell.run "Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on"
msgbox "Skype Is Patched Successfully."

If you get an error (the box will pop up and disappear, you may not be able to read it).

Posted Image

Use this script instead:

If WScript.Arguments.length =0 Then
  Set objShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application")
'Pass a bogus argument with leading blank space, say [ uac]
  objShell.ShellExecute "wscript.exe", Chr(34) & _
  WScript.ScriptFullName & Chr(34) & " uac", "", "runas", 1
Else
  Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
  ss= objShell.RegRead ("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Skype\Phone\SkypePath")
  ss= """" + ss + """"
  'Add Block rule
  objShell.run "netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=""SkypeBlockTCP"" dir=out action=block program=" + ss + " enable=yes protocol=any profile=any"
  'Add Allow rule
  objShell.run "netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=""SkypeAllowToProxy"" dir=out action=allow program=" + ss + " enable=yes remoteip=127.0.0.1"
  'Turn On firewall
objShell.run "Netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on"
  msgbox "Skype Is Tored"
End If

Save this as dafaq.vbs, make note of the location you saved it in.

Hold the Windows key and type r. Use the Browse button to find the VBS file you saved. Select it, and click run.

If it was successful you should see a message box indicating it was Patched successfully.

DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET. I would recommend disconnecting your modem from its power source.

Open Skype and navigate to Connection options.

Use the following settings (make sure it matches perfectly, otherwise it will not work):

Reconnect your internet connection. Change your IP. Connect to Skype. Congrats, you can't be resolved!

#3819503 Frost Bomb hotfix nerfed oh and warriors too

Posted Saikx on 12 December 2012 - 09:20 AM

They shoud have decided on 2 things, either bomb time now 6s from 4s and deep nerf to 4s OR frostbomb 50% dmg with fireblast.

Now its 6s bomb, 4s deep AND 50% damage nerf because they failed with the 6s and 4s change in the first place, they back it up with the 50% shit and overnerf it, but what do I even expect from these idiots

ps: retards, all of you

#3817164 US gemming resilience EU gemming damage, why the difference?

Posted Vanguards on 07 December 2012 - 11:50 PM

There's a common misconception that PvP Power negates Resilience. This actually isn't true because Resilience is factored in after PvP Power in a sense. Lets say a Frostbomb hits for 100,000. With 50% PvP Power it hits for 150,000. However, if a person has 50% Resilience, it would hit for 75,000 in the end.

Now lets pretend the Mage gemmed more PvP Power and the target gemmed more resilience. The PvP Power became roughly 60%. The Resilience became 55%.
Frost Bomb not hits for 160,000, but with 55% Resilience it hits for 72,000. This is not the exact PvP Power to Resilience scale; but that should give you the picture that Resilience = generally more damage reduction than PvP Power's increased damage point to point with full PvP Gear.

edit: In the end you can't just go one way or the other for everyone. If you play a class like Enhance Shamans, gemming Resilience is probably smart since they get trained over half the time. If you play a class like Warriors, it's probably good to use PvP Power against non-Casters and Rogues.

If you have enough conquest points it's probably best to have 2 sets ready. Wear the set depending on if the team is going to hit you or not. However with the upgrading gear factored in this season it's going to be a lot harder to do this.

#3805415 New totem changes

Posted Raikufail on 15 November 2012 - 10:26 AM

Shaman has been the best healer since Cata release due to it being the hardest healer to CC, Every other healer u can Blanket into a casted CC except shamans because they can grounding for example. 30 secs tremor atm is retarded. Even 1 min tremor is retarded.  Almost very single high team involves a resto shaman due to their utility which is over the top.

It is just really boring to face resto shamans aswell compared to every other healer due to the fact that they are harder then any other healer to CC. Every game it's like... resto shaman again... and whenever u play a comp without a resto shaman and u face 1 u will at disadvantage the whole game.

#3798501 PvP Gear upgrades for conquest points on PTR

Posted Regent on 02 November 2012 - 04:13 PM

I just told my brother, who hasn't played PvP for a few seasons, "So, today Blizzard announced that PvP gear..."

He cuts me off and says, "...is FINALLY easier to obtain? It was so retarded that you had to play so long before you were even on an even playing field."

Me: "No, they are making it take even longer to get max PvP gear, no more alts, having to do RBGs..."

Him: "Retards, thank god I don't play that shit anymore."

Even someone who hasn't played in 3 seasons understands this is retarded.

This whole incident fucking disgusts me. So you don't get a red skull next to your name for one season. So you go out of your way to HACK somebody, by using a fake ID (Which yes, legal action can be taken, not just because you hacked him on WoW, but for obvious other reasons).

Wintrading is one thing. Yeah it is frowned upon, yeah everybody will think you're a gigantic fag if you do it. But hacking somebody using a FAKE ID just for a rank one title is disgusting. Whoever did it (not going to point fingers because I'll admit I'm pretty ignorant to the subject), is probably the biggest greasy virgin the world has ever known.
