A rhetorical question for you, AJOT. Rhetorical, because this is not really about you. This is about a young man from a quiet home in Jersey who abandoned everything he used to believe in so he could obtain what was truly precious to him.
You may know him by the names of thedream, the ape, the toddfather, Hotpartygirl or simply Todd Jones. Like many others, Todd was motivated by Zyzz (RIP) and aspired for greatness at a young age. In contrast to Zyzz though, Todd dedicated himself not only to the gym, but to his studies as well. Todd knows that becoming a highly paid lawyer is the perfect way to complement his swole physique.
However, somewhere along the line, being a swolemonster and Harvey Specter 2.0 stopped being enough for Todd. He wanted more; he wanted to be noticed by a particular dame. Unfortunately, this specific damsel was far too much in the spotlight for an up-and-comer like Todd to slip in easily, and he was very aware of the situation.
Todd has always been a staunch opponent of Redditors, Imgurians, tumblr-users and meme spammers.
I'll supply this snippet from September 7th, 2013:
As a proud and accepted member of the Imgurian family, Bellajynx was the last broad I could have predicted Todd having his eyes on. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and Todd's wanted this cosplaying empress from England.
Todd has been showing his support to Bellajynx on her Facebook fan page, frequently liking and commenting on pictures. Recently, Bellajynx has been taking pictures of herself holding up a sign with a fan's name and message on it.
Todd's eyes lit up as he saw this, his heart pounded and he began to shake with excitement. This is what he had been waiting for, not only did he have the opportunity to be noticed by Bellajynx, but he could receive attention from her at the same time.
A Desertion of Principles
Not much later, Todd's excitement began to wane and convert into panic. He noticed this post hours after it was put up, and she said she'd be finished in 10 minutes. Had he missed his chance? Would he never get his sign picture? His palms began to sweat as he contemplated a life without his name written on a piece of her paper, with her very own pen and handwriting. This is not the life Todd had planned for, nor was it the one he was willing to live.
But then - as if it was fate itself - she had posted a new status update:
Relief washed over Todd like a torrential downpour of rain after spending a week in the Sahara. He still had a shot, and he knew this was one he could not afford to miss.
Todd wasted no time commenting. Upon reading this post for the first time, my heart sank. I could not believe what I had just seen. I know there were words here, but all I could read was:
Were my eyes deceiving me? I had to inquire about this.
Todd's poor soul has become so deluded by his political science studies that he truly believes his choice of emoticon was simply a disguise, a type of camoflage. I knew better though; Todd was a changed man. I should have seen it coming, as Todd is already well on his way to becoming a ruthless lawyer, it's no shock he will do whatever it takes to win.
Although I threw his comment a supportive like, rest assured knowing my mind and my heart were screaming "dislike" as I moved the cursor over the button and clicked.
What lies next for Todd? Will he receive his sign picture, or will he have sacrificed everything and have all of his effort be for naught? And will we still be there for Todd as he continues his descent down this slippery slope?
I for one will stand by his side but I will not pretend to condone this trend of emoticon usage.
