#4058807 Don't be an asshole

Posted Nadagast on 21 February 2014 - 12:09 AM

I'm sure everyone has seen how much trolling and general douchebaggery have infected AJ.  I'd like it to stop.

Trolling and assholery puts AJ on a downward spiral.  People troll/asshole-it-up, which leads to less people using this as a forum for serious/reasonable discussion, which leads to more trolling, etc.  AJ always was and continues to be the most popular place for new players to get into the PvP scene.  Any community relies on new members to sustain itself--by making this place a wasteland we are doing nothing but ensuring our own demise.

Before you post a reply or topic, ask yourself: am I being an asshole?  If you are, change your post to take a more educational tone.  If you're feeling heated about something, take some time to cool off before replying.  Don't immediately assume someone is trolling you, some people are just not very knowledgeable.  Worst case, if you reply in a calm educational manner, you've posted something informative for the hundreds or thousands of lurkers who will view your reply.  These are generally newer PvPers, and anything you do to help sustain them as arena players helps all of us.

On any set of forums, it's easy to forget that almost all of the people reading it are lurkers, who will never make any posts.  Lurkers cannot be trolls, they can't be assholes, they are just here to learn or read interesting things.  Post interesting, informative content.  Post drama if you want, but don't be an asshole.  Fuck the trolls, post for the lurkers.

You are far beyond stupid.
It is very simple - they did a crappy job and people are congratulating them due to lack of any other tournaments.
Tell them what they did wrong so they can improve instead of giving them a pat on the back for trying.
Yes, some parts of the tournament was “crappy” – There was downtime between queues mainly because at the time the European servers had some lag issue.

There was some flaws with the tournament – you mentioned in a different post that there was problems with people disconnecting, people having computer problems that caused a lot of wait time.
But to be fair you can’t blame the organizers that the players participating have disconnect issues or computer issues – it’s not like they can ship over a decent computer and pay for internet to every participant that is the issues that comes with online tournaments.

Host it some place half-way. Fair ping for both sides and less disconnects.
The problem was not so much that people randomly left games and what not, the problem was that there were 10 +minutes of dead air on the stream with absolutely no information on what is going on.

yolocommenting? You are an idiot.
I honestly think you need to understand that it is a community-hosted tournament with zero support from blizzard at all except a few devs who post about it on twitter.

At last, since you are so keen about giving out advice, I would advise you to come up with constructive criticism to improve the tournament instead of talking shit, which nobody can use to anything.

honestly its cool that you're doing this tourney and all, hats off to yaspresent, but you guys should execute it a lot better. Sodapoppin had triple the amount of viewers this entire tourney had, and he was probably just doing something stupid like running into tornados in westfall.

More people will tune in if it is a lot more organized and fun to watch.
The tournament had 10.000 viewers during the 2nd day, which is a good amount of viewers for a WoW tournament stream.

How the hell does this excuse them from sucking at it? It is not easy so they can do a crappy job and be congratulated on it?

Is it so ungodly hard to organize 20 people when there are money at stake to be won? I don't think so.
That was by far the worst wow tournament I have seen.

If they "have their own problems/bs" they should not have signed up for a tournament that thousands of people are expected to watch now should they?
This is not some million dollar company organizing this tourny, these are normal people like you and me trying to host a tourny. Why the fuck would they bother with filling up time between Qs, are u really that boring u cant fill up your own time behind a pc between Qs times?

Ye fck those random players signing up for this tourny because they can earn $$$ playing a video game for a few hours, the organizer should of been more strict and made sure these people followed his lead perfectly so some dude behind the internet could watch this free tourny with little to no downtime on his demand. And why didn't he host the tourny from a server floating in the Atlantic ocean for best ping/latency, god damn organizer, cant even get that right. WORST WOW TOURNY EVER

and this time actual commentary instead of that lazy "joining skype" shjt

Actually (no offence to anyone)... I prefer listening to skypes over commentating in 90% of situations. This is true even for Azael, who's a great commentator.

Think it's much more exciting when you get to hear the players. Commentating can be good too and definitely has its place.
