Hunter Alpha Notes

General Info.


Hunter

Hunters have lacked a strong distinction between the different specializations. What we mean by that is that the Hunter specializations all had rotations that felt similar, with  Marksmanship and Survival having the most blurred identities (Beast Mastery felt well rooted in the pet). Hunters were also some of the most afflicted by button bloat. To address these problems, we opted to make changes to each specialization's rotation, primarily through removing abilities, and making some of them unique to each spec. This means things like Aimed Shot being the primary Focus dump for Marksmanship, instead of Arcane Shot or Serpent Sting being available only to Survival. Hunters also had a large number of cooldown abilities, which we've also cut down (some of which we moved to the talent tree, competing with other active buttons). One of the most difficult abilities to decide to cut was Aspect of the Hawk. It began to feel fairly meaningless, since it was used virtually all of the time in combat, so might as well have just been passive. We decided to cut Aspect of the Hawk, and bake in its benefit to the other abilities. The remaining aspect abilities are all utility only, and are being moved off the stance bar and made toggles.

Overall, Hunters should see a drastic reduction in the number of active buttons, and have a clearer distinction between the different specializations. With some of these changes, you may find yourself favoring a different specialization. Keep in mind that Draenor Perks, earned from levels 91 to 99, will serve to further distinguish the different specializations.
  • Aspect of the Pack no longer appears on the stance bar and is now on the global cooldown.
  • Aspect of the Cheetah no longer appears on the stance bar and is now on the global cooldown.
  • Glyph of Aspect of the Beast: The ability taught by this Glyph no longer appears on the stance bar and is now on the global cooldown.
  • Glyph of Aspect of the Cheetah: No longer triggers any cooldown on Aspects.
There were also a few other changes, primarily for quality of life and rotational consistency.
  • Aimed Shot now deals 20% more damage and no longer interrupts Auto Attacks.
  • Dismiss Pet now ignores line of sight.
  • Hunter Pets now have a 1 second global cooldown.
  • Black Arrow’s periodic effect now has a chance each time it deals damage to cause the next 2 Explosive Shots to cost no Focus and not trigger a cooldown. This effect is guaranteed to activate at least once.
  • Explosive Trap now places a periodic-damage effect on each target within the radius of the explosion, rather than a persistent effect on the ground.
Level 100 Talents

Removed: Flaming Shots Replaced with Exotic Munitions
  • Flaming Shots - You light your basic auto shots on fire. They now deal 80% weapon damage as Fire damage.
  • Exotic Munitions (New) Allows you to modify your ranged weapon to use exotic munitions:
  • Incendiary Ammo: Arms your ranged weapon with exotic ammunition that lasts for 60 min. Each auto shot deals 20% additional weapon damage as Fire to all enemies within 8 yards of the initial target.
  • Poisoned Ammo: Arms your ranged weapon with exotic ammunition that lasts for 60 min. Each autoshot deals 0 additional Nature damage over 16 sec. When this effect is refreshed, the remaining damage will be added to the new effect.
  • Frozen Ammo: Arms your ranged weapon with exotic ammunition that lasts for 60 min. Each autoshot deals 40% additional weapon damage as Frost and reduces the target's movement speed by 50% for 8 sec. Only one exotic munition can be active at one time. Hunter - LvL 0 Talent.
  • Focusing Shot - Carefully line up a shot at the target that deals 100% weapon damage and prepares focuses you, generating 50 Focus. Cannot be cast while moving. Replaces Steady Shot and Cobra Shot. Also triggers Steady Focus for Marksmanship Hunters. 40 yd range, 3.00 sec cast, Requires Ranged Weapon
  • Versatility (Beast Mastery) - Increases the effect of your pet's Combat Experience to 70% increased damage. Your pet now gains the following abilities, regardless of its active spec: Spiked Collar, Roar of Sacrifice, Cornered, Boar's Speed, Last Stand, Blood of the Rhino, Great Stamina.
  • Lone Wolf (Marksmanship, Survival) - Increases all damage dealt by 30% when you don't have a pet active.

Currently Talents like Spirit Bond, Blink Strikes, Intimidation do not work or change with Lone Wolf (Marksmanship, Survival).

Hunter Perks 91-99:
  • All - You heal 5% of your maximum health every 1 sec while  Camouflage is active.
  • Beast Mastery
  • - Focus Fire now also grants 2% increase to attack power per Frenzy stack consumed.
  • - Increases damage done by Kill Command by 20%.
  • - Increases all damage done by your combat pets by 20%.
  • - Your pet's attacks strike nearby enemy targets for an additional 25% of damage done while Beast Cleave is active.
  • - Your pet's basic attacks have a 20% chance to reset the basic attack cooldown and make the next basic attack free.
  • - Kill Shot can now be used on targets with 35% or less health.
  • - Increases damage done by Arcane Shot by 20%.
  • - Increases damage done by Kill Command by 20%.
  • Marksmanship
  • - Kill Shot can now be used on targets with 35% or less health.
  • - Reduces the Focus cost of Chimera Shot by 10.
  • - Your Aimed Shot critical strikes grant you 20 Focus.
  • - Increases your maximum Focus by 20.
  • - Increases damage done by Aimed Shot by 20%.
  • - Increases damage done by Steady Shot by 20%.
  • - Add an additonal 5 yards range to all your attacks with a baseline 40 yard range.
  • - Critical strikes with Multi-Shot now also trigger your Piercing Shots ability.
  • Survival
  • - Increases damage done by Arcane Shot by 20%.
  • - Increases damage done by Kill Command by 20%.
  • - Increases the duration of Explosive Shot by 1 sec.
  • - Increases damage done by Black Arrow by 20%.
  • - Reduces the cooldown on all your traps by 50%.
  • - The root effect from your Entrapment requires 100% additional damage to break from taking damage.
  • - Camouflage no longer breaks from dealing or taking damage.
  • - Your Viper Venom restores an additional 3 Focus.
Abilities that were removed:
  • Hunter
  • Arcane Shot is no longer available to Marksmanship Hunters.
  • Thrill of the Hunt now also reduces the cost of Aimed Shot when active, to preserve its value to Marksmanship Hunters.
  • Aspect of the Hawk has been removed.
  • Aspect of the Iron Hawk has been renamed to Iron Hawk, and now passively provides 10% damage reduction.
  • Cower has been removed as a pet ability.
  • Distracting Shot has been removed. *Returned
  • Hunter’s Mark has been removed.
  • Kill Shot is no longer available to Survival Hunters.
  • Lock and Load has been removed.
  • Black Arrow now naturally has a chance to cause the Lock and Load effect.
  • Stampede is now a level-75 talent, replacing Lynx Rush.
  • Lynx Rush has been removed.
  • Rabid has been removed as a pet ability.
  • Rapid Fire has been removed *Returning as MM cooldown.
  • Rapid Recuperation has been removed.
  • Serpent Sting and Improved Serpent Sting have been removed.
  • Serpent Spread has been renamed Serpent Sting, and remains a passive for Survival Hunters. It causes Multi-Shot and Arcane Shot to also apply the Serpent Sting poison, which does instant and periodic damage.
  • Widow Venom has been removed.
  • Revive Pet and Mend Pet now share one button, which toggles based on whether you have a live.

  • The following pet families provide an ability that puts the pet in stealth mode, but slows its movement speed by 50%. The first attack from stealth receives a 20% bonus to damage: Cat, Spirit Beast
  • The following pet families also provide an additional ability.
    • Chimaera - Froststorm Breath: Causes Froststorm damage to all targets in front of the Chimaera over 8 seconds.
    • Core Hound - Molten Hide: Causes Fire damage to attackers.
    • Devilsaur - Feast: The devilsaur feasts on a nearby Humanoid or Beast corpse within 5 yards, healing it for 20% of its maximum health and restoring 20 Focus over 5 seconds.
    • Direhorn - Reflective Armor Plating: Deflects all spells cast in front of the Direhorn for 6 seconds.
    • Hook Wasp - Flutter: Slows the fall speed of both itself and the hunter for 30 seconds.
    • Spirit Beast - Spirit Mend: Heals the target ally instantly, and additional healing over 10 seconds.
    • Water Strider - Surface Trot: Allows the Hunter and the Water Strider to walk across water.
    • Worm - Burrow Attack: Deals Nature damage to nearby enemies over 8 seconds.

  • Distracting Shot (New) Distracts the target to attack you, and increases threat that you generate against the target by 200% for 6 sec. Requires Ranged Weapon. 40 yd range. Instant. 8 sec cooldown.
  • Misdirection had a tooltip bug fixed.
  • Multi-Shot now does 30% of weapon damage, down from 45%.
  • Revive Pet now has a 2 sec cast time, down from 4 sec.
  • Steady Shot now does 35% weapon damage, down from 55%.
Talents

Marksmanship
  • Aimed Shot now does 255% ranged weapon damage, down from 450%.
  • Careful Aim now also works while Rapid Fire is active.
  • Chimera Shot now does 190% ranged weapon Nature damage, down from 210%.
  • Rapid Fire (New) Increases haste by 40% for 15 sec. Hunter - Marksmanship Spec. Instant. 2 min cooldown.
Survival
  • Bear Trap (New) Place a bear trap that immobilizes the first enemy that approaches for 8 sec and deals 0 bleed damage over 20 sec. Damage from other sources may break the immobilization effect. Trap will exist for 60 sec. Hunter - Survival Spec. Instant. 4 min cooldown.
Pets
  • Acid Spit now causes the enemy target to take an increased 5% physical damage for 25 sec, up from 4%.
  • Burrow Attack the enemy target to take an increased 5% physical damage for 25 sec
  • Feast now restores Focus over 6 sec, up from 5 sec.
  • Ravage the enemy target to take an increased 5% physical damage for 25 sec
  • Talon Strike the enemy target to take an increased 5% physical damage for 25 sec

PvP Set Bonus:
Buffs: New (*Every Class has a similar version) Spells:
  • Kill Shot now grants 15% of maximum health if the target dies. Hunter - Beast Mastery & Marksmanship
  • Survivalist (New) After killing a target, you gain 15% health over 10 sec. Hunter - Survival Spec.

Hunter Question

Trying to find the best approach for Hunter macros with limited amount of bar space. Currently I am trying to find a way to reduce the amount of bloat on my bars. Anyone have any suggestions as with what I can reduce?

*Wyvern Sting: 1,2,3
*Silencing Shot: 1,2,3
*Lullaby: 1,2,3
*Master's Call: P1,2,3
*Sac: P1,2,3
*Target:1,2,3
*Focus:1,2,3

Maybe switch some of the CC to Focus/Target Instead? I know it ends up being personal preference, just would like to get a feel for what others are running with.
