Horrid state.  Horrid.

All could have been forgiven if the activity wasnt so fucking low. Not to mention that the new generation of pvp players are complete retards with 0 patience. Can't even find people to cap 2s with and I got 0 standards.

#4637023 Some reading material on WoW arena

Posted by Braindance on 12 January 2018 - 05:33 AM

Good post overall and it's a shame it's on a dead forum. A few things I would like to add that made the game lose prestige in my eyes:

Complete disregard for old players

I've spent thousands of euros/dollars on this game. I had nearly 600 played days by the end of BC. I gave my life to this game.

At this point in time, any random teenager can obtain 99% of the things I got in my bank within a few days. My PvE warrior (the original one) has 6 t3s, many other unobtainable items from nax (Ramaladni's icy grasp, plague bearer and so on). Now you pay some gold in the auction house and it's yours. Why? No amount of gold is worth all that time I invested to obtain these items. My guild killed Kael 10 days after nihilum (thats like top 10) and I got ashes on that kill. I was being spam whispered to sell it and I said no, cause I loved my character.  My warrior was a tiny bit of my soul transferred into the game. Now an alt with 6 hours played total can go in TK kill kael like it's a lvl 10 mob and get it. Why?

THE ONLY thing they ever did that catered to some players was the veteran of the shifting sands achievement. I missed hitting the gong and the event due to school, with all the scepter pieces assembled. I was crying in the bathroom because of that. FUcK lost crew FUCK cubensis. After so many years at least they gave me an achievement. That's somethin.

I was someone important because I put a lot of effort and time in this game. I practically sacrificed my youth to get epics. I will always remember what my old guildmaster in vanilla told me "Doesn't matter what gear you have, what matters is when you have it". Yeah the when stopped mattering.

Gameplay changes

The next big thing, if not the biggest, is the gradual homogenization/ability pruning that has befallen the game. When I said I put a small part of my soul into my character I meant it. Every warrior spec took time to master. My action bars were full of abilities and macros. Playing was demanding but rewarding. Now everyone presses the same buttons, and the soul of each class has been lost. I believe this is the reason blizzard is bleeding subscribers more than anything else. You don't pve 100% of the time and you don't pvp 100% of the time. You play your character 100% of the time and if that's not enjoyable then nothing is.

The community

This game was played by hardcore nerds. I would sleep in net cafes, forget to bathe, ignore my friends. But I had friends in game. Lots of them. Tons of them. Everyone knew everyone. We did shit together, we spoke on ventrillo, we had tons of FUN. Now I q up a dungeon, raid w/e no one speaks. No one is interested in anything, this place is like a huge tinder where you constantly swap partners.

That's all I think I got for now

#4636954 PvP is THIS dead?

Posted by Braindance on 04 January 2018 - 07:35 PM

I've only been back for 1 month but here's what I see:

The bad

  • Dampening is still in the game. This is like putting a bandaid on a tumor. A hastily implemented and ineffective solution. A very easy fix is to add 50% mortal strike back to the game
  • The gear template is a great idea on paper, but in reality it's one of the worse things implemented in the game. Gear was one of the last avenues of customization left in this game and that has been taken away completely. We are at a point where pvp gear doesn't even matter. Removal of pvp pertinent stats such as resilience make the game dull and boring. I don't know about you, I had a lot of fun trying different gems/enchants/gear pieces to figure out what fitted my playstyle best. There is just no feeling of progression
  • Casting has never been easier. All interrupts have been nerfed, range of spells has been increased, many casters have multiple schools, many instant casts. This has allowed for the rise of abominations like boomkin/ele + healer in 2s and so on
  • 2s still remains a shit fest. I do not understand why glad was removed from that bracket in favor of 3s.
  • The player base appears is becoming more like a sorority. Challengers want to play with glads, rivals act as if they got God by the balls and so on. This arena group finder tool feels like tinder. The average player just doesn't wanna grind anymore and instead prefers to jump around from team to team.
  • The game has become too alt centric instead of focusing on one character and building him. There was a certain feeling of bonding with your character many years ago and that kept players paying for subs.
  • Everyone is so goddamn mobile.

The good

  • The honor talent system is excellent. It still has a lot of room for improvement, but it's on of the best steps blizzard ever took in the right direction.
  • They tried to make many specs viable, and while they didn't fully succeed, more specs than ever are viable/semi-viable

Now as far as warriors go:

  • Single target damage is garbage. This mainly comes from the pvp template with very low mastery, and the fact that they are practically the only class still limited by armor. There was a time I could press mortal strike and see someone's lifebar drop by 25%. Now I consider myself lucky if it's 10%.
  • Charge root is one of the worst changes ever made to the class. Apart from being buggy as fuck (get nova'd mid charge you stop dead on your tracks - this didn't even happen in vanilla), it took away an integral part of the playstyle of being able to stop a casted cc at someone at the expense of not having a gap closer for a few seconds.
  • Removal of intervene - god knows why
  • Spell reflect being a talent on a 25 sec cd that reflects everything. Rather have it as a 10 sec cd that requires a weapon swap and def stance and only reflects a single spell. Spell reflect should be baseline
  • Heroic leap instead of intercept since Cata
  • Normalized rage. Rage is rage not runic power, not energy
  • Not getting rage from being hit. Like what the fuck
  • Not having an efficient rage burner. Heroic strike was bad but it was a good rage burner.
  • Stormbolt not working half the time and people walking while being stunned
  • Talents being garbage and boring. The only tier which is well designed is the last honor talent one with sharpen blade. That's how talents should be
  • We went from one of the most mobile classes to one of the least mobile. It's a disgrace.

On the flip side, everything not pvp in this game is great.

#4636821 How's this game now

Posted by Braindance on 25 November 2017 - 08:59 PM

Let's queue 2s.

Im level 105

Pretty much. First things first, welcome back Braindance! It's good to have you back! :D

About the question you asked, well... The game is overall in a really weird state atm. From what I've heard, PvE is quite alright. I don't meet a lot of PvEers complaining about the state of the game. PvP is a mess, but can still be fun if you queue with friends for fun. Do not expect to have the same fun you once had playing this game during better times, but it is still quite alright as a time-killer (if you are not someone who tilts easily, that is). That being said, it's probably still worth a try.

It seems like a mess - looks somewhat fun tho. Warrior playstyle seems meh but we will see Im not even max level yet lol

Posted by Braindance on 20 November 2017 - 04:19 AM

these new guys don't know about braindance posts.   miss you bud.  don't come back to the game though seriously, 2's isn't even fun just even to just play casually. Last i played my warrior, they were strong, but no fun whatsoever, everything is too homogenized.  Anti-fun!

Hey man good to see some old faces around. Ima go buy the game if it's on sale for black friday and play pure solo mode, super casually.

You do realize I never said anything in opposition of what you’re useless post was getting at. Let’s not act like we just figured out a deep dark secrect about wow smart guy. You mean to tell me that in WoW, an mmorpg, that it’s all about time put in the game and not skill?????? Whaaaaaattttttt

Normally years ago, I would have written things to you that woulda gotten me 2 infraction points at least. But I won't do that. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna call myself a retard and you smart. Hope it makes you feel better.

#4636787 How's this game now

Posted by Braindance on 20 November 2017 - 03:50 AM

Lol what the shit is wrong with you? All I said was that because all you want to do is solo stuff and 2s then you must like tunnel visioning (which is what you do when doing 2s). It’s called a joke friend, wipe the foam off your mouth.

I’m sorry you just wasted that much time out of your busy day just to make yourself look like a loon :(

It's all OK. I am here to tell you that I wiped the foam off my mouth and changed my diaper. I hope that one day you will understand my post.

So what I’m gathering from this is that you are a tunnel vision expert. Legion sounds like it’s for you then!

And I am gathering that you are one of those romantics that believe in skill in this game. I was like you once back when I was younger, and therefore I feel compelled to gift you with my most important post ever. It is unfortunate that this forum appears dead and therefore probably only you will read it.

This game was never about skill; not in vanilla, not in bc, not in wotlk, not in cata, not in mop. Not ever. From PvE to PvP two things mattered the most:

  1. Consistency
  2. Time spent

Nothing more nothing less. Skill played a small part in there because it got your right foot on the door so that other people would not label you incompetent and allow you to:

  1. Be consistent
  2. Spent time

Rank 1? All about spending time and being consistent with your strategies vs certain matchups. Sure, maybe in 1 out of 10 games you could pull a "clutch" move and attribute the win to that. But what matters is the 9 games not that 1. To win these 9 games, you had to come up with a plan and merely execute it. The better you executed it the more the chances you won. That's why there were lots of glad and r1 players that everyone was like "This guy's garbo! I'm better". You might as well have been better, but the other guy was far more consistent and efficient at winning games, by following the rules of scripted combat that this game requires of you. In my very long career in this game - at this point probably longer than anyone else left in this forum since I was there for, and part of, practically everything that happened till mid MoP - I have seen duelists that mechanically were much more gifted than r1s or gladiators but they never fulfilled their potential because they kept on doing the same mistake over and over and over again. What was the mistake?  Instead of relying on consistency and cookie cutter tactics they wanted to lean back on "skill" (whatever even skill means in a 1.5 gcd game). Do this swap, focus kick 40 units away instead of doing dmg and so on.

What I am getting at in essence is that skill in the way most people perceive it has nothing to do with reality. Contrary to popular belief because you have more tools doesn't mean anything; everyone is given the same gcds. A mage can use it to polymorph a warrior to mortal strike. It's nothing more than a sequence of buttons every 1.5 second. This belief actually held (holds?) many players back because they refuse to look back at what the did wrong and instead blame it on whatever. Could be macestun, could be fear into poly, could be s5 dks. This is the game. What you think or believe doesn't matter. All that matters is what works, and what works has always been a script. Enemy does x you do y. You can be skillful with a knife and you can be skillful with a bazooka. The guy with the bazooka might have an advantage but you can still overcome it.

The beauty of this game is that it had a soul; it was a living organism. It gave a sense of achievement to people that had none in their real life. Works 16 hours a day (RIP Rich), get gear, be known. Everyone cried about everything:

  1. Too many imbalances
  2. Too many hours to play required
  3. Too high difficulty

The collective population of this game behaved like a spoiled woman. But spoiled women don't want to be spoiled; they want an iron fist to tell them what to do. That fist was the original devs that gave 0 fucks about all the tears. And the population kept on crying, but deep down they loved it. They loved it so much that they kept coming back to this game no matter what. When that fist got soft, there was nothing attractive left to it. People fled, played other games, realized there are things to do outside the game and so on. There is always hope  however, and I believe as soon as the sub level drops after a certain number the devs will go back to the old model.

I could see none of these things when I was young and brash. Too enchanted with the game, too caught up in drama and so on. But now, I have the presence of mind to see the truth. And simply put, players wanted to be dominated by the devs and told to work like slaves. They would bitch and moan about it, but deep down they loved it.

All in all, probably I will not convince you or anyone for that matter, but I am compelled to say these things and put them on paper, in case that someone that's open minded enough will absorb this information and allow him to enjoy the game the way it should be.
