#4253941 England leaves the european union

I would love the UK to remain part of the EU and I will be voting to stay a part of it. However we get no financial gaine from it haha, we have to pay out because countries lie about how much their economy is worth, or go into debt. We're not part of the Eurozone. Ideally one day we will have a completeley united europe, however right now the UK is getting nothing from the EU except £1.7 Billion gbp bills to keep countries like yours which produce nothing afloat.

The graph you linked is a historical correction, you can read that on the page you linked it from. This has absolutely zero to do with how much a country contributes vs gains. Ironically the reason why the UK is on top of that graph (actually at the bottom) is exactly what you blame others did: skewing the numbers. The money France, Germany and Belgium are getting back in that graph is because they have overpaid in the past.

If you want to look at (afaik) the last up to date net contributors for the last 12 years, you can check this chart.
Another interesting graph that shows a different context is for example this one from the BBC. 2007 numbers but (click the % of income tab) quoting: 'Thanks to its rebate, the UK pays a smaller proportion of its GNI than other countries'. Not to mention that there are so many ways to compute those numbers.

And on a last note, looking at the net contributions as the only means to determine if said country gains something from the EU is plain stupid. Every big/rich/well developed country knows that they gonna have to pay more than what directly will come back through e.g. subsidiaries. The return on investment is far more complex than just what you pay and get back, since the growth of your export is not included in those numbers.

It's a very technical thing so not gonna hold it against you, but it's exactly what happens in the media/on the internet: people grab a graph and then spread the word that it's about X while in fact it's a totally different context Y.

Calling an economy shit is debatable. For example the IMF GDP per capita ranks Belgium higher for 2013 than the UK. And depending if you factor in the cost for being the host of many EU institutions, Belgium is - just like the UK - a positive contributor to the EU budget for 12 consecutive years (i.e. paying more than receiving back from subsidiaries). You are just repeating braindead quotes, trying to make a point while you have none.

You have one of the worst debt to gdp ratios in the world.

Your economy is 1 scale above Greece's and Italy's.

That's why I said you're entitled and ignorant. Not only do you post shit that you have no clue about, but you also insist when proven otherwise.

Anyone thinking this is the beginning of the end for the EU is completely uninformed of what the EU has actually achieved. Yes there are plenty of things that don't work cq. could be improved. But the + far outweighs the -. The populism of the 'eurosceptics' (who btw still refuse to explain the consequences of the alternatives to their voters) pushed Cameron into promising a referendum on one hand, and on the other hand he knows the economical importance of the EU for the UK.

A EU that is close to being perfect is probably utopia, but if anything it's a long term process. Short term populism won't change that.

I'm a bit curious. Could you give some examples of positive things achieved by EU ?
a few out of the top of my head:

- fairly solid peace, don't forget if you walk around your average town there are still a good amount of people who experienced WW2 first hand
- open markets, while meanwhile increasing consumer rights/protection, increased worker rights/protection
- way easier to travel, which leads to (using a big word) cultural exchanges between people
- less pollution (enough hard data around the internet to back this one up)
- has increased the living standard in many countries (spain, portugal, former communistic countries)
- less discrimination (in many forms)
- EU has more influence as a whole in the world than France, Germany, the UK< etc would have on their own
- ....
