Has anyone here ever watched the Jay DeMerit movie? Sounds like an odd thing to do (release a movie about yourself when you're pretty much an unknown player), but I've heard of it several times so I was wondering if it's worth the watch

It's an interesting story, if you're familiar with the Premier League it's sort of a Rickie Lambert/Grant Holt-esque story, rising from way down in the pyramid up to the top leagues (though iirc Demerit started lower and never actually made it to the Prem). He had a successful spell with Watford and some really good performances for the national team too.

Do you guys think it's possible for a single player to carry their team to a World Cup? In 2014 (and on) that is.

I wasn't alive to see 1986, but from the several games (and many highlights) I've seen, the game has changed so incredibly much. I don't doubt Maradona's ability and I'm not calling his performance into question, but just looking at the first goal (and to some extent the second), https://www.youtube....h?v=F_8xXTLC1g0, how many defensive mistakes were made? It's just Bulgaria, but even still, I don't think any of the teams at this past World Cup would have made those mistakes.

Teams nowadays are so well drilled at defensive shape and strategy, there just looks to be so much space between the defenders and midfield. Again, I'm not saying Maradona's performance was anything other than spectacular -- and great players punish mistakes, which he certainly did.

Even looking at his most famous goal, https://www.youtube....h?v=1wVho3I0NtU, there's such lazy defending. (like this (@~20seconds)) That's in the World Cup Quarterfinals from a first choice, captain, center back. In terms of individual quality and team organization/tactics, perhaps it isn't possible for a player to individually dominate / carry his team to victory (at least for winning the whole entire thing).
