Gates open - it's TSG vs LSD (destro). Dk rushes in mounted and so does the warrior. Dk dismounts and pops AMS. Warrior charges gets grim toll proc, mortal's rends bladestorms on the warlock. Dk keeps hitting lock. Pala hoj the druid. Druid trinkets. Warrior fears druid. Lock dead, without casting a thing.
s15 (16 w/e the season is too many lost track im an old man)
Gates open. Again TSG vs LSD. Same scene - dk dismounts ams, warrior charges. Let's say the ele is the target now. Druid comfortably pounces gives 2 hots and runs away. Ele is at 70%, war and dk pop offensives. Druid gives ironbark. Lock spam fears the pala. Druid takes him time to clutch fake the dk's dark sim, then lands a clone. Dk trinkets. Warrior keeps hitting the ele for 20ks every couple of seconds, getting outhealed by a rejuv. Druid picks up his cellphone to call his gf to tell her how much he is raping this drooling tsg. Lock relogs to activate recount after he feared the pala. Meanwhile warrior is sitting in a 7 sec root while the dk tries to drop the ele below 70%.
Time passes on and dampening kicks in. It's dinner time for the druid so they have to end the game quick. They clone the dk and fear the pala, while the druid pops heart on the warrior. Warrior dies. Druid goes and enjoys his porkchops.
What is the gist; caster damage is almost the same at this era regardless if they are getting trained. At the same time, landing cc has never been easier, and the gap between melee and caster damage has completely disappeared (the niche of a melee class in arena was that given uptime it would outdamage the caster). In addition a melee cleave's instantaneous decisions can have immediate and disastrous results. A warrior's trinket is more valuable than a lock's or a mage's. That is in stark contrast with a caster cleave where the only thing they have to do if they fall behind, is to run together in a pillar knowing that it's almost impossible for a melee cleave to push into them because they lack both the necessary damage to gib someone and the cc.
If melee damage was 50% higher we could have this discussion again. As long as the strongest melee ability hits for a max of around 15% of someone's hp, melee cleaves in the sense that they existed in wotlk are extinct. There is simply not enough burst damage, mortal effects are way weaker and lockdowns do not matter as they used to. Locking down a healer in wotlk meant 2 things. Either some1 was dead or all their defensives would be popped (as a melee cleave).
There is a reason that even Lolflay, that used to write pages upon pages on AJ on how braindead melee cleaves were, says that he would take melee cleaves over caster cleaves any day.
Notice that I do not consider hunter x a melee cleave because that's something unclassified - a bastardized version of a caster and melee cleave combined with no weaknesses.
PS: For the record, I mostly play caster/war/healer all my life with a strong preference on mage/war.
cool story bro Kappa
