from where do u guys measure?
my 9 inches comes from starting at my lower back, doing a sort of alleyoop through/between my legs and then i give myself 3 inches of "grace" measurement from what i consider to be very enthusiastic thrusting.

I was just throwing the question out there.

Considering our very short interactions were just you telling me that we would get along famously and be in love forever, but never actually initiating a conversation, you wouldn't know, would you?
but you HAVE heard of me

Do you guys think it's possible for a single player to carry their team to a World Cup? In 2014 (and on) that is.

I wasn't alive to see 1986, but from the several games (and many highlights) I've seen, the game has changed so incredibly much. I don't doubt Maradona's ability and I'm not calling his performance into question, but just looking at the first goal (and to some extent the second), https://www.youtube....h?v=F_8xXTLC1g0, how many defensive mistakes were made? It's just Bulgaria, but even still, I don't think any of the teams at this past World Cup would have made those mistakes.

Teams nowadays are so well drilled at defensive shape and strategy, there just looks to be so much space between the defenders and midfield. Again, I'm not saying Maradona's performance was anything other than spectacular -- and great players punish mistakes, which he certainly did.

Even looking at his most famous goal, https://www.youtube....h?v=1wVho3I0NtU, there's such lazy defending. (like this (@~20seconds)) That's in the World Cup Quarterfinals from a first choice, captain, center back. In terms of individual quality and team organization/tactics, perhaps it isn't possible for a player to individually dominate / carry his team to victory (at least for winning the whole entire thing).

Messi certainly wasn't vintage Messi in this tournament, but he will never really be that way with Argentina.
Yeah well I think that's the main problem people have with him getting the award. We all know what he's capable of at Barcelona, he's shown it for years. Upon reaching such a high level of play, he inevitably gets compared to Maradona, who actually carried his club and his country, so people expect Messi to do just that if he truly is Maradona's heir. Now all we'll remember of his WC is losing in the final (not so bad), him walking for most of the games (not so good), and controversially getting awarded Player of the tournament. I feel this WC is, all things considered, a big failure for him. He missed his chance and didn't shine enough in an Argentina team that hobbled along the whole WC and didn't show much as a whole.

Next time he'll be 31 and once again have fucking garbage teammates here and there. If he doesn't win a WC as a player he'll never reach legendary status for Argentine people, which I think would be sad considering how fucking good he is

i agree honestly even as much as i've been in denial and trying to justify it cuz i'm biased

his team is terrible and he should not have been in a position to win the wc, but the fact is he was, which is 90% because of how well he played. but i can't just forget how he missed his one near-perfect chance shortly into the 2nd half in the final. it wasn't as bad as higuain's miss because it was at an angle and he was trying to beat neuer, but that doesn't even matter to me honestly. he still had the defender beat, it was the best scoring opportunity he had gotten all game and it was the world cup final and it would have won the game. but he missed

he didn't have a bad game by any means but you need more than that to be a world champion playing for argentina. it's unfair because not every german had to have a perfect game every game, not spaniard had to have a perfect game in 2010, because they all actually had solid team play and could make up for each other's weaknesses. this wc was all on messi and everyone knew it, they got themselves in a position for him to win the final and he blew it

that miss was literally everything. that was his chance of ever winning a wc boiling down to one shot and he didn't make it. argentina aren't going to be contending in 2018

everything considered, that was a fucking sweet tournament and amazing final though

i think others couldve and probably shouldve won the award but its not THAT surprising messi won it.  people wanna be overly sensational about it just because it's him.  so much bias, good or bad, in this thread lol
