With using rip you'll actually be able to get larger bursts off than when just using the ability ferocious bite as someone here previously mentioned.
With rip and rake on the target you'll be doing the maximum amount of consistent damage you possibly can, after that if you burst into it.. say with a bash and popping tigers fury.. you'll actually gain alot more damage(as when your bursting the rip will be ticking for that extra dps!) than if you didnt have that rip up.
A big problem with just spamming bite is you'll have so much more down time of when youre doing no damage as opposed to rip where you're damage is constant and you'll have the ability to burst as well quite often.
obviously there are scenarios when you should be focusing on biting.. eg your spri calls a swap to the mage who is at 60% already and throws the healer into a silence you'll probably want try to ferocious bite as soon as possible(during silence duration) rather than rip as to force the iceblock or a kill. But if your training a mage from start to finish and he's at a healthy %life you'll probably want to rip to build constant pressure and wait for the cc to dumb your energy into a bite.
