#4204741 i miss the high skillcap wotlk gameplay

Posted Tekkys on 09 September 2014 - 04:16 AM

Nostalgia hides imperfection, simple as that. Wrath was my favorite expansion (i was a PvE hero in TBC, so i cant speak much for the pvp side of the exp.) but i know and accept there were awful imbalances. Does anyone remember when Death and decay could be glyphed to be an instant, AoE ring of frost like horrify? RLS openers with bloodlust?

However Wrath isnt my favorite expansion because of some innate balance that existed; it was because the skill floor and skill ceiling of each class, and moreover, the comps you played had such a tremendous gap that you knew when a team really just flat out beat you. The little nuances of each class that you had to understand to really be competitive set the game apart from it's later expansions, especially this one. Sure stupid things like beastcleave and dfo wizard cleaves existed, but they always will. However, back then i feel the community as a whole had a lot more respect for people who truly preformed well and showcased their skill, rather than accusing them of being ddosers or wintraders or what have you. I think we were all still learning so much (i think the knowledge gap between TBC and Wrath was tremendous to be quite honest) that when someone did something skillful or released a video with some highlight or nuance everyone just stopped and said "Wow, i didnt even know x class could do that, or x spell".

Moral of the story is, when you can keep a game simple enough, but add just enough depth slowly but in ample amounts, you develop a really great platform, which is why games like League of Legends are so successful. The core mechanics of the game are so simple; you farm, you fight for objectives, you control vision, you buy items, and you work as a team. The depth they add is with each new champion the meta has a chance to change; with each new season, balance and item changes re-work the meta slightly, but never deviate from the cookie-cutter gameplay that most people are accustomed to now.

Wrath had it's flaws, but the learning that took place during that expansion, as well as the difference between the skill floor and skill ceiling being so noticeable are what made it such a great expansion, imo.

The top Arena players may reach a CR and MMR ~2700-2800.

And yet, the top RBG players may only reach a CR of ~2300-2400 because we hit a glass ceiling of ~2100 MMR and now we can't even gain one point a game.

How come you included a screenshot of only the top 10 arena players but your screenshot of the RBG ladder had the top 16 players in it?

Because over half the top RBG players do not count in my heart due to DDOS wins.

Really? And I thought you extended the snapshot to 16 because you're a desperate sociopath who'd do anything for attention, no matter how pathetic and blatant

while i respect ur passion as an rbg leader and your prose as a writer, you always find a way to undermine any rational argument u present. if you would just write well thought out posts without the arrogance and fluff, you wouldnt have a more respected image. i know you are an attention speaker, but there comes a time where your professionalism is seriously in question.

Best times on this website were and will always be the battlegroup forums in TBC and WOTLK.

How much can honestly be written about arena strategy from a player's perspective? This website, at its conception, was designed to be GameRiot meets WoM. I remember getting tells asking me to sign up in like, season 2? Anyway, the function is community, not information. If I didn't know how to play I'd go to Twitch, or watch videos. What am I going to read? The theorycrafting here has never been worth visiting for - what else is there besides community?

When there was an SK gaming list and WoM and almost nowhere else to talk to other players who exclusively PvP'd, this website had a niche. If you want to read patch notes, you'll go to MMO-Champion, if you want to watch someone else play, you'll go to Twitch. The only possible function this website could have is giving the ever-shrinking playerbase a sense of community.

You've never done any boost, Nadagast? Never played with anybody who was doing one? Not once? I bet if you could quantify the amount of damage that did to the "community" it'd be pretty tremendous, or at least moreso than "being an asshole." Moderatorship should be unbiased, should be bipartisan and should be consistent and active - it hasn't ever been any of those. European AJ mods have been found guilty of using the website to harvest IPs, you can just get banned for someone not liking you, whatever. Zunniyaki advertises selling boosts on this website and it goes unpunished. I got permanently banned for saying NAO was partnered with ArenaRating because somehow that was against the forum rules.

If you have some substance to post and reasonable credentials, you should able to do whatever you want within fair, consistent, universal rules - a forum is a place of open assembly for the people, not a place for idiots to learn how the people act. What would the website honestly be without people talking shit to one another? A bunch of 1 time Gladiators or first-time 2400s posting gifs and three word responses talking about how the game is shit? A bunch of TBC heroes talking about how the game is shit? A bunch of has-beens saying the game is shit? The game is shit dude, we got it. Grats on access.

You can't have conversations with people about the actual game. I bet you'd never say that Warlock or RLS or WLS or anything else was much stronger than any option any other class had. I've had in-depth discussions with people like Filovirus about how Hunter has always been stronger than Warlock as a class in the arena, like he can't even remember SL/SL - is that the information you want to have available?

Fast forward to Team Liquid or SoloMid and the discussion is, "yeah he won top, but that was pre-Renekton nerfs - I doubt it'll go the same way at IEM." or "he doesn't stand a chance after the Colossi nerfs, looks like an all Zerg semi-finals"

It's a roleplaying game. Not a PvP game. There has never been discussion that was unbiased or accurate in the history of this website. Maybe some gems, but everyone thinks they're the best so everyone's opinion is effectively worthless. And this game isn't competitive, so all anyone has is an opinion.

When a guy that wants to improve as a player asks tips on how to play rogue/ mage /x , and then the multi glad Regentlord responds with like ''just spam lance and faceroll into them'', am i not supposed to say fuck off at the least?Or make fun of him by the posts he did in the past?
Oh c'mon we all remember that day in s12 where he said:It doesn't matter if stampede got nerfed, i can still glad get without it (jk never 2.4 again).
So no offense, but ppl who respond like that deserve to be trolled or not taken seriously.

The amount of retardation in this thread.

10-12 yard pummel? Why not just give Warriors fucking counterspell while you're at it LOL. Boohoo you can't AoE interrupt half of Asia with 1 button anymore, guess you just have to keep doing unhealable and unpeelable damage.

#4056233 Tryhards of Season 14 Awards

Posted Bigmoran on 18 February 2014 - 04:26 PM

It's that time of the year again boys and girls. Last night marked the end of the season and unfortunately I spent my last 3v3 game offline. Oddly enough this is the second season in a row that my last arena game of the season ended in me being DDOSed. Exumbra probably hasn't given up his hatred and jealousy of me. Poor guy.

Anyway, just like last season here is the list of the TRYHARDS of SEASON 14.

Death Knight

Winning the title for two years in a row is HEUHEUEHUEHUE Brasil DK Vigaboy. Previously known as Vigarista and Vigaboyswag, this DK (who honestly plays like an Honorbuddy profile) farmed 1-2 point wins from 2470~ to safe Rank 1 rating.
Once again, this clever little bastard has backpeddled his way to another rank one title.

If this were the Olympics, Brasil would have a huge lead over everyone at this point. I say this because the tryhard druid of s14 is also a HEUHEUEHUEHEUHE BRBRRBRBRBRasil. If it wasn't obvious enough at this point, I am of course talking about Rynd. This emotional train wreck of a human being has five druids, most of which are getting rank 1. You trying to compensate for something there buddy? I hope it's your inability to grow a mustache.

Claiming the title of tryhard hunter is bucktooth Shaman Goat cleaver Tonystyle. At the beginning of the season he would queue Ret/Hunter/Shaman for literally hours every day. This guy had nearly 1500 games played at the START of the season running only ONE comp.

When he's not making donuts at Tim Hortons or yelling "DUDE DISPELL ME WHAT THE FUCK" to his teammates, Snaregodx is actually a pretty swell dude. This high calibur frost mage made it big this season, climbing his way to rank 1 of the ladder. I hear from some of my colleagues that his success in arena is due to him gemming full dodge and speccing into blazing speed when some other mage ques arena. Well praise Jahllah, because Snaregodx won his race against to Kwok to achieve rank 1 on multiple mages.

I couldn't really think of anyone relevant to put in this category. So instead I am opting to give this award to Ssjwindgodx aka Ssjwindvipx. If you don't hate him already because of his name, this black guy runs double monk (MW/WW) in 2s for multiple hours at a time. Cmon man, it's black history month. Live the dream and queue some 3v3.

It's been a while since he graduated from Bongwater University with a degree in Wind Raiding, but Eliteqt has certainly made a splash on the ladders this season. I'm sure it had nothing to do with playing with Jahmilli, but Elite climbed high on the ladders on three paladins (not to mention some obvious carries, but hustle over bitches amirite?)

I'm not sure if he is even capable of reading, but winning the tryhard award for priest is Dibbz. When he's not taking vodka shots off his bros' bellybuttons, he is spam queuing fire mage godcomp with Hansol, lord of fire. If you need some insight into the life of a sexually confused rich kid who pops his collar, drop by his stream every once  in a while. Ignore the subpar shadow priest play and focus on the two shirtless dudes in the background playing ping pong.

Jax. Not much to say here.

It's a bit ironic that the tryhard shaman comes from a server commonly abbreviated ED, because this guy certainly has a big dick with the moves he pulls against streamers. Playing four shamans, each with a unique kickbot profile is Kallis, some idiot that got high ratings running Honorbuddy cleave.

Winning the title once again is Dota. It seems he has gated in and out of ~3 online relationships during this season, causing him to name change every time. His names this season went from Juliaxo to Cleanupxo to Marilynxo to Marixo. Either he is just copying the lyrics of Mambo #5 or he genuinley has been the victim of some serious /cast seduction. (jesus christ i feel like Perez hilton at this point - hold me, dan)

The tryhard warrior of this season goes to 40 year old Korean father Irub. He played multiple warriors this season, each time running KFC with some of his other squinty eye friends. The main reason he is a tryhard tho is because of his ability to create a Great Wall of Texts on AJ, none of which people give a single fuck about.
