#4597396 Which player(s) did you look up to?

In somewhat chronological order:

Megatf was one of the best contributors EVER to this game. The amount of learning resources he provided in BC was HUGE on this website. During BC I really didn't know many names outside of my server community. Hamsterboat and Waffleiron were two big names on my server.

In WoTLK Hydra was probably the most revolutionary healer I had ever seen. This guy forever changed the course of WoW PvP.

In early Cata, Reckful, Filovirus, Neilyo, and Dakkroth were all crazy entertaining to watch. I remember downloading their PvP videos on WCM. As a Druid, I was really inspired by Drmayo. I modeled the way I played druid around his aggressive playstyle. I am also incredibly happy I met Carrymelol during Cata. He was a phenomenal Rogue and taught me a lot about PvP. I also enjoyed Khuna and Flubbah videos during this expansion.

At the end of Cata I was in awe at how good Jahmilli and Talbadar were. I think these two players are up there as some of the best players ever in WoW. Honorable mention to Samx and Metaphorz to be some of the late greats of this expansion.

In MoP I was mostly inspired by my S14 arena partner, Vurtre. I met him when he was a Rival Durotar duel hero. Together we pushed ourselves to get R1. Throughout MoP I always looked up to Jahmilli and Starship.

In WoD I looked up to Jax and Cower. Both of these players are some of the most underrated talent in this game. While playing RMD they helped me greatly. Another great player I had the chance to play with in MoP and WoD was Venruki. He is a positive force in this community and should definitely be remembered as one of the all time greats.

Though not really part of the mainstream PvP community, Bailamos was a huge influence to me in terms of RBG leadership. Similarly, Pizza, arguably the best level 19 twink of all time, was an important influence in my WoW career.

Admittedly I'm a little bored at work, and also a little tired. But something needs to be said, for those aren't already on the same page.

This thought has grilled me, and is the real reason i think anyone ever quits wow, pvpers anyways.
We are part of a formula, we have been trained to accept a terrible system and it seems were all entirely oblivious to it.
This thread is probably completely pointless as we all must be aware of this, but no one seems to talk about it anymore, we complain about specific stuff sure, but in general we just sit back and take it, its just the way it is and even though it is responsible for every other issue, we just close our eyes to it.

Every change, every new addition, every removal and tweek, its all just bullshit. It's what we wait for, to keep us coming back, to fix the new imbalance they pointlessly put into the game, so that hey it might be balanced next patch, and again, and again, and again, over and over and over. You could argue pve is responsible for this, but its not, its simlpy an excuse for blizzard to continue to be what we mistake as laziness. It's not laziness, ladies and gentlemen, its their fucking business model.

We get bored of one extremely long season, we complain endlessly about specific things over and over, a new patch here, and nerf there, and a new imbalance here. Over and over again. Sounds like im accusing blizzard of some giant conspiracy, but quite honestly at this point its pretty clear how this hamster wheel functions.

They make "mistakes", then say "oops! we didn't intend for this terrible system to not work as intended", then they reel us back in with the off chance they might fix it at some point down the road - chances are after another $15 from all of us is again safely in their pockets. It is genuinely insane.

As every season mellows out and takes for ever to finish we all just zombify and become use to it, we melt away brain cells endlessly doing the same thing accomplishing almost nothing, i mean in the end were suppose to be having fun, and dont get me wrong i do have fun when i arena with cool people, but honestly how can one sit back and even consider that its possible to have fun doing the same broken imbalnced garbage for 7 months in a row.

The thing that gets me the most, is when they finally bring in a new season, we all battled away for our titles and our gear and wait so patiently to get the next best shit, then its finally available! We all gear up like crack-fiends addicted to bigger numbers. We all hit pretty hard as the season starts and people complain, then they just buff reseilence and health pools, so even though were doing more damage and everyones all excited for this refreshing change, NOTHING HAS CHANGED lol.

Its depressing, this thread is depressing, the state of this game is depressing, but whats more depressing than anything is seeing all these quality people, all you guys, slave away as you get gouged by blizzard over and over again.

Were just part of a vicious cycle, a business model, an endlessly perpetuating and cleverly designed money making machine. Blizzard really doesn't give a shit what you say or complain about - they have it all planned out, and you'd be a fool to think otherwise.

Sad face.

#4554327 Food for thought from an oldschool player

Posted Tekkys on 16 December 2015 - 09:32 AM

Honestly, i think it's not a matter of what we need to do, but what we need to NOT do.
  • The PvP community needs to be serious about ostracizing cheaters. If you know someone who DDoSes, fly-hacks, or any form of obvious cheating, do NOT continue to play with them. Cheating has become way too common-place in the PvP scene, and while i know people don't agree with it, you foster its growth when you play with someone who perpetuates it or supports it.
  • Stop being so toxic towards the outward community. We are a minority of the dwindling WoW population; you can't be so selective when choosing people to play with and helping new players learn the game. I'm not saying you have to run a charity service and teach every sub-1500 player the game, but don't be cruel. Direct them to sites such as this one so they can read up and try and understand their mistakes. Be patient and help the people who truly want to get better and learn.
  • If you don't have a constructive opinion, don't consistently spread garbage. Everyone has bad days, everyone hates comp x/x/x or class x. It's okay to shit-post now and then, but don't make it a habit. If you think something deserves changing, explain why, and try and be constructive.
  • Support the infrastructure already present. GCDtv is going to great lengths to get people excited about arena, and honestly they're doing a great job. I'm not too familiar with organizers over in EU (the only one i remember is Bleached Bones?), but these guys work hard to take the game they love and get people interested in it. They need our support to grow and help the scene grow back with them.
If you really care about this game and enjoy it, you don't just roll over and die. I know it's hard when the company in charge seems to care very little if at all about what you love, but they're trying to be better. In Legion PvP and PvE will be separate, something we as a community have been asking for since late TBC if not earlier. Blizzard is ridiculous and borderline cruel when it comes to the PvP side of their game, but they are trying to amend for their mistakes, so they deserve some credit.

#4546266 Why is it so damn hard to get good teammates nowadays?

Posted Jim_Jim on 28 November 2015 - 09:18 PM

Because nobody wants to try anything, when you ask other people to play something weird, they will answer "Mumumumu we can't beat turbo, it will be bad against ww/dk or shatter mumumumu".

So you are here, playing the same comp because nobody has the balls and the motivation to try something exotic. I asked lots of people to play just to try differents things, and they didn't even want to try.

And then, you have some people saying on AJ that the game is dead after playing countless hours and thousands of game on the fotm comptheyhavealwaysplayedsincevanilla.

Who wants to play sp/affli/hpal? Nobody.
Arcane/demo/hpal? No, it's bad.
Firemage/monk/hpal? Rmd will farm us.

#4546383 Why is it so damn hard to get good teammates nowadays?

Posted Hektic on 29 November 2015 - 11:23 AM

JimJim is spot on, EU especially is very closed-minded about comps so you just see the same 4 setups at higher rating. There's definitely good setups nobody is playing just out of laziness or fear of being low rated nowadays when everyone can see your ladder stats and people want to boost their popularity to gain stream revenue.

Blizzard don't help this much because the game is so dumbed down and now based around setting up the same predictable repetitive "go's" and it comes down to which losers have played the comp 1000 games and make less mistakes executing it instead of genuine outplay\counterplay. When the level of tactics nowadays is 'who are we going on' you know the games fucked.

Hey, friend. I played my Demon Lord Dark Mage last season with the John Stamos Cleave you have mentioned (both with Thunder Shaman and Totem Warrior specs). Totem Warrior is definitely better of the two. Your strategy is pretty on point, but not your rotation of spells. Save up fury as much as you can - Demonboltx2 into Chaos Wave with Dark Soul is SUPER DUNGA DAMAGE and that person will be warped into space.
