I think Blizzards game mechanic's are mistaking Healing Stream Totem for being a player, therefore it receivs heals :(
Right now it's the MVP of arena - of course it's counted as a player

the best way to fix RBG's is to remove RBG's.

Bigmoran your argument is so flawless, i've decided to buy a boost. Prideful Gladiator Flavour. Sounds good, and i get a red helmet. And it improves other players, and the game! Sounds brilliant!

1. I do hold a genuine belief that boosts are good for the game. At the very least, I don't believe that boosts are destructive to the arena ladder.

2. This is just a really bad argument. "Boosts are bad because it is against the TOS." The reason why this arguement is bad is because it ends: there is nothing further to be discussed. If your only justification in making a claim on the ethics of an action is to explain that is "against the rules" then you have closed off any further discussion. Perhaps the TOS we are provided with needs to be reworked. Are you honestly that willing to submit yourself to an unquestioned list of rules?

3. You are once again making a claim about someone else's beliefs from your OWN framework. Knock it off. Also, we are not dealing with eSports, so I don't see how this argument even works. If WoW was an eSport, your agument still wouldn't hold. Surely any eSport event would be composed of the best of the best, something which could easily comb out the people who purchased boosts. (ie, you don't see people getting boosted playing at the WoW regional tournaments, do you?)

4. I would acknowledge the fact that I should have tried harder to beat a team. The one thing that has been killing the competitive community is that people are often unwilling to reflect on the fact that their bad performance might be because they themselves are the problem. No joke, people are often unwilling to LEARN TO PLAY.

I like the format.

1. I find that hard to believe, and i don't see how having boosts in the ladder isn't destructive? Imagine if at the olympics, the people get Gold (R1) Silver (Glad) and Bronze (Duelist) where the same guy, and Duelist his boost. If the booster hadn't boosted the bronze medaler, the person who is bronze medal skilled, would have gotten it. I feel it's very destructive.

2. So, explain to me why it shouldn't be against the ToS? I get WoW isn't an Esport anymore, but it was. And we should adapt the strict guidelines the other Esports games right now whos communities are growing every day. LoL & Dota.

3. Kettu was arguing with 3 / 4 people earlier in the thread. Reading his posts is like he's trying to troll me, saying the ladders shouls look like the one he made with 51 boosts and alts before a real 4th player. Either he is really 100% bhind his argument, or he's playing Devils advocate for the sake of the argument, which in my opinion is what he's doing.

4. More than one thing is killing the community. People not willing to learn doesn't hurt the community, it hurts themselves, i know there are plenty of people in Rival/Duelist range who believe they are Gladiator level players and blame blizzard/class/teammates for their failure, but you honestly believe if the ladder looked like this:

R1 Cutoff
Warlock (We'll call him tim)
Mage (John)
Shaman (Ted)
Druid

Gladiator Cutoff
Warrior
Mage (A boost john did)
Paladin
Shaman (A boost ted did)
Warlock (A boosts tim did)

Duelist Cutoff
You
Your teammate
Shaman

You would look at that ladder and 'acknowledge' you should have tried harder to beat a team? Why? You where a Gladiator level player that season, you played at what was Gladiator level. If those boost hadn't been done you would have gotten Gladiator.  If the ladder wasn't corrupt you would have a Gladiator title.

Wether not you need to learn to play more, or you're complacent, you where cheated by an unregulated system.

How much can honestly be written about arena strategy from a player's perspective? This website, at its conception, was designed to be GameRiot meets WoM. I remember getting tells asking me to sign up in like, season 2? Anyway, the function is community, not information. If I didn't know how to play I'd go to Twitch, or watch videos. What am I going to read? The theorycrafting here has never been worth visiting for - what else is there besides community?

When there was an SK gaming list and WoM and almost nowhere else to talk to other players who exclusively PvP'd, this website had a niche. If you want to read patch notes, you'll go to MMO-Champion, if you want to watch someone else play, you'll go to Twitch. The only possible function this website could have is giving the ever-shrinking playerbase a sense of community.

You've never done any boost, Nadagast? Never played with anybody who was doing one? Not once? I bet if you could quantify the amount of damage that did to the "community" it'd be pretty tremendous, or at least moreso than "being an asshole." Moderatorship should be unbiased, should be bipartisan and should be consistent and active - it hasn't ever been any of those. European AJ mods have been found guilty of using the website to harvest IPs, you can just get banned for someone not liking you, whatever. Zunniyaki advertises selling boosts on this website and it goes unpunished. I got permanently banned for saying NAO was partnered with ArenaRating because somehow that was against the forum rules.

If you have some substance to post and reasonable credentials, you should able to do whatever you want within fair, consistent, universal rules - a forum is a place of open assembly for the people, not a place for idiots to learn how the people act. What would the website honestly be without people talking shit to one another? A bunch of 1 time Gladiators or first-time 2400s posting gifs and three word responses talking about how the game is shit? A bunch of TBC heroes talking about how the game is shit? A bunch of has-beens saying the game is shit? The game is shit dude, we got it. Grats on access.

You can't have conversations with people about the actual game. I bet you'd never say that Warlock or RLS or WLS or anything else was much stronger than any option any other class had. I've had in-depth discussions with people like Filovirus about how Hunter has always been stronger than Warlock as a class in the arena, like he can't even remember SL/SL - is that the information you want to have available?

Fast forward to Team Liquid or SoloMid and the discussion is, "yeah he won top, but that was pre-Renekton nerfs - I doubt it'll go the same way at IEM." or "he doesn't stand a chance after the Colossi nerfs, looks like an all Zerg semi-finals"

It's a roleplaying game. Not a PvP game. There has never been discussion that was unbiased or accurate in the history of this website. Maybe some gems, but everyone thinks they're the best so everyone's opinion is effectively worthless. And this game isn't competitive, so all anyone has is an opinion.

I'm sure everyone has seen how much trolling and general douchebaggery have infected AJ.  I'd like it to stop.

Trolling and assholery puts AJ on a downward spiral.  People troll/asshole-it-up, which leads to less people using this as a forum for serious/reasonable discussion, which leads to more trolling, etc.  AJ always was and continues to be the most popular place for new players to get into the PvP scene.  Any community relies on new members to sustain itself--by making this place a wasteland we are doing nothing but ensuring our own demise.

Before you post a reply or topic, ask yourself: am I being an asshole?  If you are, change your post to take a more educational tone.  If you're feeling heated about something, take some time to cool off before replying.  Don't immediately assume someone is trolling you, some people are just not very knowledgeable.  Worst case, if you reply in a calm educational manner, you've posted something informative for the hundreds or thousands of lurkers who will view your reply.  These are generally newer PvPers, and anything you do to help sustain them as arena players helps all of us.

On any set of forums, it's easy to forget that almost all of the people reading it are lurkers, who will never make any posts.  Lurkers cannot be trolls, they can't be assholes, they are just here to learn or read interesting things.  Post interesting, informative content.  Post drama if you want, but don't be an asshole.  Fuck the trolls, post for the lurkers.

#4056233 Tryhards of Season 14 Awards

Posted Bigmoran on 18 February 2014 - 04:26 PM

It's that time of the year again boys and girls. Last night marked the end of the season and unfortunately I spent my last 3v3 game offline. Oddly enough this is the second season in a row that my last arena game of the season ended in me being DDOSed. Exumbra probably hasn't given up his hatred and jealousy of me. Poor guy.

Anyway, just like last season here is the list of the TRYHARDS of SEASON 14.

Death Knight

Winning the title for two years in a row is HEUHEUEHUEHUE Brasil DK Vigaboy. Previously known as Vigarista and Vigaboyswag, this DK (who honestly plays like an Honorbuddy profile) farmed 1-2 point wins from 2470~ to safe Rank 1 rating.
http://i.imgur.com/zGDDvhU.png
Once again, this clever little bastard has backpeddled his way to another rank one title.

Druid

If this were the Olympics, Brasil would have a huge lead over everyone at this point. I say this because the tryhard druid of s14 is also a HEUHEUEHUEHEUHE BRBRRBRBRBRasil. If it wasn't obvious enough at this point, I am of course talking about Rynd. This emotional train wreck of a human being has five druids, most of which are getting rank 1. You trying to compensate for something there buddy? I hope it's your inability to grow a mustache.

Hunter

Claiming the title of tryhard hunter is bucktooth Shaman Goat cleaver Tonystyle. At the beginning of the season he would queue Ret/Hunter/Shaman for literally hours every day. This guy had nearly 1500 games played at the START of the season running only ONE comp.

Mage

When he's not making donuts at Tim Hortons or yelling "DUDE DISPELL ME WHAT THE FUCK" to his teammates, Snaregodx is actually a pretty swell dude. This high calibur frost mage made it big this season, climbing his way to rank 1 of the ladder. I hear from some of my colleagues that his success in arena is due to him gemming full dodge and speccing into blazing speed when some other mage ques arena. Well praise Jahllah, because Snaregodx won his race against to Kwok to achieve rank 1 on multiple mages.

Monk

I couldn't really think of anyone relevant to put in this category. So instead I am opting to give this award to Ssjwindgodx aka Ssjwindvipx. If you don't hate him already because of his name, this black guy runs double monk (MW/WW) in 2s for multiple hours at a time. Cmon man, it's black history month. Live the dream and queue some 3v3.

Paladin

It's been a while since he graduated from Bongwater University with a degree in Wind Raiding, but Eliteqt has certainly made a splash on the ladders this season. I'm sure it had nothing to do with playing with Jahmilli, but Elite climbed high on the ladders on three paladins (not to mention some obvious carries, but hustle over bitches amirite?)

Priest

I'm not sure if he is even capable of reading, but winning the tryhard award for priest is Dibbz. When he's not taking vodka shots off his bros' bellybuttons, he is spam queuing fire mage godcomp with Hansol, lord of fire. If you need some insight into the life of a sexually confused rich kid who pops his collar, drop by his stream every once  in a while. Ignore the subpar shadow priest play and focus on the two shirtless dudes in the background playing ping pong.

Rogue

Jax. Not much to say here.

Shaman

It's a bit ironic that the tryhard shaman comes from a server commonly abbreviated ED, because this guy certainly has a big dick with the moves he pulls against streamers. Playing four shamans, each with a unique kickbot profile is Kallis, some idiot that got high ratings running Honorbuddy cleave.

Warlock

Winning the title once again is Dota. It seems he has gated in and out of ~3 online relationships during this season, causing him to name change every time. His names this season went from Juliaxo to Cleanupxo to Marilynxo to Marixo. Either he is just copying the lyrics of Mambo #5 or he genuinley has been the victim of some serious /cast seduction. (jesus christ i feel like Perez hilton at this point - hold me, dan)

Warrior

The tryhard warrior of this season goes to 40 year old Korean father Irub. He played multiple warriors this season, each time running KFC with some of his other squinty eye friends. The main reason he is a tryhard tho is because of his ability to create a Great Wall of Texts on AJ, none of which people give a single fuck about.
