Okay I have no fucking clue how arpen works

Is there a cap? Or can you actually have 100% passive arpen?

Bstance + set + passive arpen is additive, right? And sunder/etc is multiplicative

so target with 10k armor at 50% passive arpen and bstance and sunder would have effectively (10k * .8) *.4 = 3200 armor?

Is there diminishing returns on the rating // diminishing returns past a certain armor %?

95% arpen would bring a 2k mage to 100 armor, a 25k shield user to 1250 armor, right?

95% arpen and sunderx5 would bring 2k mage to 80 armor, and 25k paladin to 1000, right?

ARP % is a direct reduction in total armor on the target up to 8317 armor AFTER debuff modifiers. ARP is additive with bstance.

Ex. I have 37% ARP from gear in my PvP set, plus 16% from Bstance/set bonus, giving me 54%. When Runestone procs, I hit the cap at 100% ARP, which cannot be exceeded. On a target with 8317 or less armor, I strike them as if they had 0 (actually as if they had 7 armor because of some kind of asymptote in the formula).

There is a diminishing return on the amount of armour you can penetrate -- a target with 10k is left with 1129 armor, and a target with 20k is left with 7798 (which is like 30% damage reduction).

Sunder armor reduces the base armor of the target BEFORE the above ARP calculations are applied, effectively raising the 'cap' on how much total armour can be penetrated by 100% ARP. Thus, a target with 10k armor and 5 stacks of sunders now has 8k and can be fully penetrated by 100% tooltip ARP, where before, he would've been left with a bit over 1k.

There's no diminishing returns on the rating; in fact, there's an INCREASING return on the rating. There is a hard cap (1399) which gives you 100% ARP.

Informative post. Ive heard that arp > all for arms pve, is this because you can go over 100% arp on a mob? thanks in advance.

I was told by a former guildie who did monster dps as fury that regardless of arms vs fury the best is to go for str after getting to 100% with a trinket proc.

That being said, fury is way more fun to play anyway...massive cleave damage ftw!

I have seen many threads with people saying dumb things that if you have 100% armor penetration you will ignore 100% anythings armor. That is incorrect. Armor pen scales at a curve, Targets with about 9000 armor benefit the most from the curve. If you sunder a target, the armor pen is calculated after sunder, 15000 armor -20% armor from sunders means the target now has 12000 armor, and if you have 100% armor pen, it will STILL have ~3000 armor. That said here is a armor pen calculation post that is very simple and easy to use if you don't understand what I am saying.

http://eu-warrior.com/arpen.html

That said next patch due to the armor pen change, it will be 100% impossible to armor pen cap (with a trinket) on any target using full pvp gear without using a mace. Making the mace much more ideal. Because the changes the tier 9 2pc, mace spec, and battle stance buffs are all getting a slight boost aswell because the armor pen needed to cap is changing from roughly 1231 to 1399. Here comes numbers!

Armor pen caps for 3.2.2 (roughly)

1. No battle stance = 1399.572
2. Bstance = 1259.615
3. Bstance + 2pc t9 set= 1175.641
4. bstance + mace spec = 1049.679
5. bstance + mace + 2pc t9 set= 965.705

This is before grim toll or runestone. Now heres the caps if you are using grimtoll or a runestone
1. GT : 788 Runestone : 735
2. GT : 648 Runestone : 595
3. GT : 564 Runestone : 511
4. GT : 438 Runestone : 385
5. GT : 354 Runestone : 301

Because of these numbers seeing as it would suck having to get alot of armor pen to make it useful, I personally will get a mace and use 2pc t9. Everyone should look into 2pc t9 because using the helm and chest alone you can hit cap very very easily and because everyone has easy access to it.

Now my personal math if using a mace runestone and 2pc t9:

301 rating required to cap, 245ilvl t9 chest has 82, relentless neck has 50, wintergrasp ring has 42, and twirling blades which everyone should use (easy flame leviathan hard 10 man kill) gives 48 with a 20 armor pen gem. would mean you need a whole 79 armor pen to cap with runestone, leaving almost all of your gems for strength.

Also using this same gear, and a 245ilvl t9 helm, you need 1 etched gem, twirling blades, relentless ring to cap hit, so you can also get a crit relentless cloak.

Thats my personal plan for 3.2.2
