All of this stuff is subject to change, this is info from LIVE on 1/20/09.

*** Hateful/Savage weapons DO NOT EXIST. Blizzard decided not to put them in the game. ***

1/20/09: 3.08 patch changes and Wintergrasp rewards added.

12/16/08: Added updated prices for new season using live data.

12/15/08: New epic quality hats, boots, and trinkets will be available for Wintergrasp Marks of Honor next patch. 40 for hat, 15 for boots, 25 for trinket. The vendor will most likely be in Wintergrasp fortress while your faction owns the zone.

11/20/08: Confirmed 25 man Heroic Vault of Archavon drops 2 pieces of random Deadly Gladiator loot. The vault of Archavon is the raid instance inside of Lake Wintergrasp that you can only access after capturing Wintergrasp Fortress. The regular 10 man appears to drop Hateful Gladiator loot.  Apparently all pieces except the helm and shoulders are possible drops. PvP to PvE to PvP?

Stone Keepers Shards are earned by doing Wintergrasp dailies or looted off instance bosses while under the Wintergrasp victory buff. The Wintergrasp victory buff increases experience gain by 5% and enables looting of Stone Keeper Shards. This is very similar to the Terokkar Spirit Shard system, except on a wider and more enjoyable scale. Honor, 2 Wintergrasp marks, and extra experience to help in leveling? Spend 40 minutes or so pvping to help you level faster. Pvp to pve, finally!

Stone Keepers Shards are also used to purchase pvp meta gems, pvp gem recipes, and pvp hat/shoulder enchants, which you will probably need in the near future. They offer AP/SP + resil, and are priced reasonably at 20-40 shards. Just doing normal Gundrak with the Wintergrasp victory buff nets you about 8 shards alone.

Legacy items are available for a couple hundred Stone Keeper Shards, these are items that scale with your lvl and are account-bound. The most interesting item is a legacy PVP trinket that has scaling resilience. How nice would it be to pass around your pvp trinket when pvping with your alts? Awesome.

Preparing for S5:
There are craftable pvp items (lvl 78) for every armor type that seem to be plentiful and cheap on the AH. For example, plate wearers can purchase blacksmith crafted rare quality "Savage Saronite" items. This set offers 8 pieces of plate with tons of str/stam/crit/res. JC'ers can craft rare quality rings/necklaces with resil/stam/crit/AP or SP, very similar to honor purchased necklaces/rings.

They changed a lot of the point costs from beta, almost doubled the honor point costs.  This is the result of not resetting honor/marks :/

So if you want to be competitive you should grind honor or Emblems of Valor and pick up all the Hateful gear because it is better than Savage and costs no Arena points, skipping the Savage gear?

And after getting enough points start buying Deadly gear?

What about the old honor marks, are they still required to buy items? Can they still be turned in for HP? Same turn in ratio as pre WOTLK?

reading from mmo-champion.com
"Hateful Gladiator
This is the first tier of PvP epic gear. It requires both Honor and Arena points to be bought. Armor parts have an arena rating requirements ranging from 1665 to 1825, while all weapons require 1755 Arena Rating."
So if we decide to buy it with valor tokens it doesnt require arena rating?... retarded imo, only cuz carebears will get this before we do ><

lol so pve'ers actually now get some of the best pvp gear w/o even having to try :S how is that balanced, what about giving me t7 for honor then.

Looks like Hateful set pieces might be the 'pve' welfare pvp gear that you can attain through 25 man raids. They look to be better than Savage set pieces but not as good as Deadly set pieces. This helps raiders out in pvp by giving them gear almost as good as the arena gear, so they won't get 2shotted with 0 resilience.

as you say its fair that raiders dont get 2 shotted in arena, but still its fair to pve'ers that they can 2 shot people in arena thx to their pve gear. oh hai rogue with  glaives and 4xt6

Keep fucking pve gear and pvp gear seperate, end of story. IF raiders want pvp gear, then they better start doing some pvp. Now im forced to do pve, to get pvp rewards. Great

Anyway, did they up the honor you gain now in battlegrouns or what? because getting 40 k for each items just seems emo to me.

QFT

its like there taking a step back to pre-TBC where only ppl with raid gear could actually pvp, PvE'ers are gonna be dominating season 5.

there gonna have great gear right from the get go, so there gonna most likely be the higher rated teams at the start and therefor earn more points per week and continue there domination. also if SK/nihilum cleared the whole of WOTLK already i dont see the drastic need to upgrade your pve that badly so alot of tokens will probably be spent on arena.

i really dont see why we shouldnt be able to get ~T7 for arena points in season 5.

This is a complete overreaction.

Yes, the way it is done sucks. Yes, PvEers will have access to better gear earlier than PvPers. Yes, PvEers will be at the top of the brackets in the beginning because of this.

However, it is not the end of the world. Firstly, in raids, upgrades are incredibly worth it, no matter how slight, when compared to getting offset pieces to PvP with. Secondly, the number of PvEers at that level who seriously PvP is a small minority. Thirdly, of those who are serious, a minority of them are actually good at PvP.

Also, you can still get the blue PvP set. Yes, it is not as good as the PvEers PvP set, but it is kind of close (same ilvl 200, Rare versus Epic). The stat differences are roughly around the difference from S1 or S2 to S3 or S4. In S3 and S4 there were definitely undergeared people who could compete (Faction's Rogue probably being the most prime example in people's minds on AJ). Thus, being undergeared doesn't mean you are going to be screwed. Raiders are going to be the minority of people you play in the first few weeks, and then many of them won't be as good as decent PvPers making them easy to beat despite their better gear.

Lastly, even if PvEers "dominate," as I said earlier there will likely be very few of them. Thus, even if they take the top 30 spots on a given BG, they are not going to be outearning the other people in the 31-100 spots by that big a margin. Non-PvEers will be getting their gear soon enough. And it is nothing like having T6 and Glaives running around. The PvP gear that PvEers get from Emblems of Heroism or w/e is not going to be better than the top tier of arena gear available in S5. Their advantage will be short-lived and meaningless in the end, nothing to really whine about.

TLDR: S5 will be fine, PvEers will have a small advantage for a couple of weeks but that will eventually fade. The only lasting advantage that PvEers will have is the same one they have now, raid gear, NOT being able to get PvP gear earlier than PvPers.

It seems that in order to be able to claim Top 10 (or even Top 100) on the most competetive battlegroups, one would want to farm the entire Hateful Gladiator non-piece items (ie. bracers, boots, belt etc) and somehow manage to "leech" tokens from a guild that does 25-man raids to spend on the set pieces (ie. headpiece, shoulders, chest etc) before the season starts. You would need a lot of honor (~ 300 000?) and a lot of tokens (~ 200?), but you would be equipped with a complete set of Savage Gladiator equipment and presumably some pretty juicy PvE weapons before the season even starts.

You would then want to grind another 300 000 honor to upgrade all your Hateful Gladiator non-set pieces to Deadly Gladiator-equivalents, while replacing the set pieces with arena points.

For those of us with a more reasonable amount of time to spend on a game, however, I predict and hope that picking up as many Hateful Gladiator non-set items and miscellaneous 10-man and heroic items will suffice to attain the required ratings for most Deadly Gladiator items (both non-set and set). The success rate of this more reasonable battle plan is dependant on the amount of people that have a world of time to spend in your battlegroup (ie. pursue the first option outlined in this post), how early in the season you'll be able to upgrade and (obviously) your skill.

99% of the pve'ers still backpeddlars, clickers & keyboardturns so we'll just rip their face off anyhow. Not like the first tiers of PVE gear have anywhere near the impact of 4 T6/glaives.
Ofcourse it isn't fair that any PVE'er can pick up his arena gear easily with the badges he's got left. But saying backpeddlars will dominate S5 is just a blatantly stupid overreaction.

it's not those that you should be worried about, it's the competent players with high end PVE gear that gain a massive advantage. I'll have to wait and see before I can judge though lol.

Charred you never come on IRC you filthy wintrader you! (just kidding):D
