G'Day all,

As I stated in one of my other threads (Sub. Rogue suggestions), I have just recently returned to the game, and have not played my Lock since TBC, almost ten years now, perhaps just a tad has changed, eh?  Ha!

Ergo, I wanted to get some feedback on an appropriate build/spec. for Affliction in PvP, focused primarily on solo-BG's.  I have done some research online, and read a fairly good amount on what the typical cookie-cutter is as of 7.2 (http://www.noxxic.co...builds-talents/), etc.  According to what I've come across, apparently Aff. is pretty gimped/weak at the moment (Destro, being the general go-to), in regards to PvP, however as a casual just returning to the game, I am not going to be climbing the upper echelons of rated, and have always very much enjoyed playing this sub., so that's what I'll be doing.

As such, the first few talents have been split in what appears to be the favored build, etc.  The talents "Writhe in Agony" & "Absolute Corruption" seem to be the pick here, over "Malefic Grasp" & "Contagion."  Now I'm no pro by any means, especially when it comes to my Lock, however I've done some "theory crafting," crunching the numbers, and it would seem that breaking it down for the 15 and 30 talents, both "Grasp," and "Contagion," out damage the other two ("Agony" & "Corruption), no?  I have also found a few fairly recent videos supporting this case as well.  The next few talents chosen (according to the most recent/up to date guide I could find, that contradict the aforementioned noxxic guide) are:

45:  Howl of Terror over Demonic Circle

75:  Demon Skin over Dark Pact

90:  Grimoire of Service over Grimoire of Supremacy

Once again, I could be completely off-base here, as I now defer to your collective judgement.

Please provide your best feedback on what I should be focusing on talent-wise, rotation, pets (situational, but I imagine Felhunter spell-lock would be preferred, no?) and stat priority, etc.  (I'm somewhat surprised to see "Haste" being the number one stat to buff-out; once again being inactive for almost ten years now).

Thanks in advance for your input & suggestions all, much appreciated as always,

-Cheers

Wow, fantastic help.

I am definitely bookmarking this page for both of your responses.  This is an amazing breakdown, providing the most current feedback for me to roll with.

Thanks again, much appreciated

P.S. On a side note, is it true that Aff. is apparently "super weak" in PvP?

Like I said in the aforementioned, I'm going to play Aff. regardless, just as I am currently running Sub. on my Rogue as well; curious as to how the both of you are respectively building, with the suggestion that Destro. is apparently the current FOTM, etc.

Thanks again all, really great feedback,

-Cheers

Not true. Aff ist quite strong and does a ton of dmg. Its the best specc (from all WL speccs) for RBG in my opinion and its also strong in 3s. The problem is that affli is super super squishy and you will get trained a lot by melees. You need to be good at kiting and have a good coordination with your healer (positioning etc) - maybe more than with other classes. If you can manage to survive (which isnt easy) aff is OP :)

Demo is tankier and easier to play in Arenas. I wouldnt say its "better"

I see, fair enough.

At the risk of sounding like a "nublet," I believe you recommended Howl for talent pick 45 (BG) & Circle (Arena); aside from these, and the standard Fear, how do you 'personally' deal with melee training, and your subsequent ability to kite?  How/what do you do play style-wise in order to better kite, etc?  ...Trying to ascertain the "best" way to try and keep them off me, especially as when I last played (TBC), we had Curse of Exhaustion, and as you previously stated, being nice & squishy, how do we try and stay up running solo in BG's as much as possible?

Also, on a side note, although I know it's very much personal preference, what are some of your basic key binds, if you don't mind sharing, as being almost ten years off, I'd like to try and layout the most effective set up, etc?

Thanks again Good Sir, you've really helped me in outfitting my Lock.

-Cheers

you can only kite so much as affl to be honest. you are relying on peels alot. but generaly if you can't kite them open field. you kite pillar (literally in circles alot of times) especially against warrior or when your heal is in cc. play weakness too. dont forget your gate!

easiest partner to kite with would be a frost mage. easiest partner to peel you should be warrior

you dont really wanna know my keybinds ;D they are horrible and mostly leftovers that i muscle memory from when i was a kid ;p

i wouldn't say demo is easier to play its just more forgiving. rotation wise demo is a tiny bit harder and it's actually the lock spec, you can have the most fun with atm.(but maybe thats only my preference)

basically i agree with aru. i like to play ae fear in rbg cause u dont get trained that much and a good ae fear on healers in the back line (you can place a gate there for example or just run) can be game breaking. i dont like port too much in rbg (maybe in warsong).

i dont think it is a good idea to share keybinds. my wont fit for you (or anyone else on this planet i guess) :) keybinds started back in the days with just a few on 1-6 (fingers are too small for 7+) and over the time i added buttons around for new spells i need combined with str and alt modifiers. there is not even a logic on my keybinds :) for example i got a spell on alt+1 that i cast regularly. i tried to change it to "V" cause "V" is not bound atm but FUCK I CANT GET USED TO IT

Sounds good, I will run AE primarily, as I'm going to be in BG's more often than not.

Likewise, my hands are actually pretty small as well (LOL), and I play on my laptop, finding my key binds to be a giant cluster fuck currently; suggestions?  I have 1-5 bound, but I literally don't know what to bind next...Q,E,R,T?!... FML!

P.S. I ran across this post on the WoW forums (am I allowed to post the link?  If not, apologies in advance Mods/Admin.), as this player responds to the OP about PvP and the gear mismatches, etc:

https://us.battle.ne...pic/20752035169

Here's the comment, is this correct/accurate these days, if so, I'm going to be thoroughly disappointed as a casual PvP'r & no raiding...  Is the game seriously in this state of disarray as it pertains to PvP?!  Is PvP gear really no longer competitive, or needed?!... O_o

If you expect to stand a chance against PvErs in this game when you are in Full PvP gear that took you a very long time to get, then you are mistaken.

PvE players will always destroy you unless they have absolutely no idea what they are doing, like facing the wrong way or forgetting to push their spells.

If you can maintain a 2.4k rating in 2v2, 3v3 and RBGs as well as get 10 wins in each arena bracket and 4 RBG wins weekly, you might be able to expect a few decent pieces of gear here and there that will make you just fall slightly short of PvErs in the world.

I would highly recommend unsubbing if you expect PvP gear to feel rewarding or valuable in anyway this xpac, it's sure not going to happen this patch.

If you aren't ready to sell your soul and slog through the same boring raid every week with a bunch of goons for a chance to survive against players in the world, you are playing the wrong game.

After doing exactly that I've come to the conclusion myself, this game is broken until they return PvP gear to the previous system or create one superior, because the current systems in place absolutely destroy your average PvPer, there is no place for you here.

Bollocks.

he is talking about world pvp/duells where the instanced pvp template is not activated. no worries. gear doesn't matter at all in arena/rbg. traits and pvp talents do though.
