Hi everyone,

I'm a newer player and I had some questions about the different specs of rogue. I have heard from players that combat has the best sustained damage, assassin has the best burst, and subtlety has the best control with good burst as well.

I decided to test out if this was true and installed an addon called recount (shows your damage). Everything was tested on lvl 102 training dummy, full enchants, full mastery pvp gear, wound and crippling poison (PTR).

To my surprise, I found that the sustained DPS was much better for assassination (about 20k dps) vs. combat (about 15k dps).

This leads me to believe that my rotation, when im doing sustained damage, is incorrect (Which is something I would like to fix since i play mostly combat).

TEST METHOD:

Combat (~15k dps)

- slice and dice up
- revealing strike up
- sinister strike spam, eviscerate when 5 combo points

Assassination (~20k dps)

- Rupture up
- Mutilate spam, envenom when 5 combo points
- use dispatch when proc pops

Is my sustain damage rotation incorrect, or are these numbers expected?

Sorry for the long post,

Thanks

You do realise you are testing pve dmg on a pve dummy? How the fuck do you make the conclusion dummy dps = arena dps.

While the damage numbers wouldn't equal pvp, wouldnt it scale? (eg. assassination would do 33% more dps in pvp)

i think he's trying to point out that his sustained dmg as assa is higher than combat and he feels like he's doing something wrong b/c it should be higher as combat

Well people arent normally just standing still and eating your damage in pvp, unless you play RMD ofcourse, then they don't have a choice =)

It's bit inaccurate to say combat has best sustain damage when hitting a dummy it has in fact the worst sustain damage. Also stacking mastery for sustain makes it seem even worse. What makes combat good in arena is its strong CD's (AR, killing spree and red buff) and ruthlessness which reduces your cooldown of AR and KSP.

Especially bandits guile makes combats damage fluctuate which is really good in arena since it forces cooldowns from the enemy team. Assa pretty much just does the same damage until vendetta+t7 talent comes up. Sub has best sustain for dummy but it revolves heavily around multistrike which is nerfed in pvp.

Okay, this makes sense. Thanks
