Beta been around for ages and I still don't hear anyone commenting on what prot palas are like in it.

Did they make them viable for PvP at all? Did this new nerf to tank survivability affect them for PvP? Any predictions?

Sorry i don't know. I only see some Protwarriors and Blood-DKs.
I still hope Blizzard will give it up to make Tanks viable in PvP.

They should concentrate on the other speccs that people actually play and make them better and viable first lol

The only fucking place i want to see a tank is in a fucking raid, they dont have any place in pvp even in rbgs they make them boring and long while waiting for stacks to go up.

Tank specs in pvp are aids. It just ruins all the fun. The only exception MIGHT be prot war w/ gladiator stance since it turns them into a DPS.

Meh, the way I see it a spec is a spec. Seeing as holy ain't looking too good in beta right now, I sure hope we'll still have at least 2 at least viable specs for pvp.

Holy is not looking good in general or holy is not looking good when compared to untuned restodruids? Because if you think that holy paladins are not looking good in general then most other healer specs would probably like to have a word with you :D

No because the difference is when I play a comp i play it close to skill cap

if anyone needs to be banned, it's you. You do nothing but sit on AJ being a passive aggressive idiot that nobody likes, sorry you stink of washing up liquid.

Feel free to call me an idiot because I'm a hunter or some stupid ass remark but I've actually written all this down on paper

I actually made an appearance at DH2014 and I met up with people from twitch who were involved with the dota 2 / cs tournies that where there, I talked about the game from my perspective as a professional player and we actually shared a lot of opinions. All I'm saying is a lot of people will be VERY surprised about the future of this game in the esport world :)

I dunno, I've just read what Jimjim and some other high rated hpaladins say. I'm a big fan of RBGs and I frankly can't see what purpose a hpala with no instants (and therefore no chance to do anything because they're gonna be trained 24/7) is going to serve in a RBG group. A similar case could be made for 3v3, especially during the first couple of seasons when melee rules. So yeah, I'd say holy isn't looking good in general. :/

But that's a discussion for another thread.

I'm wondering if prot pallies will be any good at flag carrying in wod?

Seems like prot pally could be useful holding the flag with their team because of the support you bring when you are not being focused early on, and then the cds pallies have at their disposal when the stacks start piling up and the enemy team is focusing the FC.

With heals, bops, freedoms, some ranged dps (judgement & hammer execute), 3 very solid defensive cds (one usable while stunned & on a 30 second cd talented), increased healing taken because of shining protector, lvl 100 talent holy shield is now going to allow prot pallies to block wizard dmg, ranged cc with repentance.

I dunno, maybe enough to put a prot pally closer to FC capabilities like a prot warrior or a gdruid?

I don't think prot pallies are ever going to be RBG flag carriers. They lack the mobility necessary to survive getting nuked (they can't get out of smoke bomb, for example), not to mention the stealth/speed needed to quickly get the flag and bring it to mid.

I prefer combat because my dong is large and I will face the enemy like a man rather than sprint over to a pillar for a re after my opener is up.

I don't get this. Druids don't get frowned upon for playing guardian in RBGs, so why would a spec that does less dmg but survives better and is able to lock down other classes be thought of as a "not real" spec?

I see no other reason to frown at tank specs in arena except if you really hate change.

In live Prot does some nice burst but the overall just sucks. Had some fun with it, though, killing people with my Thunderfury in arenas (pretty much every skill scales off spell power instead of weapon damage).

I had a game where a Warlock left some pimped up Felguard on me and it proc'd so many Avenger Shields I melted a ret, was pretty funny but no one in serious arena gonna do this.

Personally speaking, it has nothing to do with change, it has to do with how fucking lame it is to play against traditional prot specs.

In order to make a prot spec viable, they have to do enough damage to compete, but also have all of the survivability of a tank. This leads to extreme difficulty in balancing when you try to make them viable. Its not fun to play against some drooling idiot in an unkillable prot spec. Its like pvp with training wheels. Thats where the hate comes from.

I'd be ok if they miraculously could figure out a way to balance them properly, but due to the nature of the prot specs, I don't see how that would ever happen. It always ends up either:
1) Prot does roughly equal damage to pure DPS spec but has tank survivability (Blatantly OP)
2) Prot does no damage but has good survivability/utility/lockdown (This is viable but extremely lame to play and play against)

I don't understand why they desperately want to make tanking specs 'viable' in arena.

Oh, thats right, this game needs to be 'accessible' for retards.
