If your Starsurge hits for 140k which I belive it easily can without having the starts to allign next season, you'll be giving up 17k damage on 1 hit? If it its harder, it will be even more.

Adding 12% mastery is not the same as doing 12% more damage in eclipse.  I could have the exact numbers wrong, but I believe we start with +15% damage in eclipse, then mastery is added.  If we're talking about going from 24% to 36%, in reality we're going from +41% to +53%.  That's an 8.5% damage boost, not 12%.

So the 140k starsurge would hit for 151k.  I think it's possible a super explode-y boomkin playstyle could work, but haste is fun.  :D

From what I've read...

Stat Priority: 6% hit > 10289 haste > crit > mastery > 10289+haste

What the Stat Priority for gemming?

What comps are worth investing time/effort into? Zombiechicken Cleave, Dancing with the Stars, and LSD2?

The gemming priority is generally going to be how much crit you can maximize (so essentially just gem crit), while making sure you still make that 10289 breakpoint. The breakpoint will probably be a good medium between casting speed/globals/dot tick speed, so getting to that and going rest crit is no doubt going to be the best for overall output.

Comps are probably change throughout the season:  LSD2 and other rot/outlast comps are going to be incredible for the first few weeks, but will be taken over by high burst teams. Dancing w/ stars will probably come around later in the season as a upper-tier comp, but will take a high amount of coordination to set up kills.

The extra tick can sometimes be a much higher increase in DPS than 12% damage, which is technically a smaller boost in overall damage since we have multiple modifiers to consider.

Since Starsurge is going to be our primary source of damage, having a solid proc-rate is going to be important. :: 11 ticks, 35% crit
Given MF (3) and SnF (0) -- 2.001 procs in 16sec
Given MF (2) and SnF (1) -- 2.788 procs in 16sec (up 40%)
--------------------------------
Given MF (4) and SnF (0) -- 2.310 procs in 17sec
Given MF (2) and SnF (2) -- 3.267 procs in 17sec (up 41%)

As a general rule of thumb:  1 DOT, in terms of proc-rate is exactly 50% as effective in proc'ing Shooting Stars when compared to 4 DOTs of the other DOT. (if MF(4) = proc then SnF(1) = proc/2 ).

Basically, you should always have 1 non-Eclipsed DOT rolling for the sake of fishing for Shooting Stars.  And losing a single tick is an 8% drop in procs.  This decrease will go barely noticable with more targets/DOTs active.  For RBGs, I'd say that Crit/Mastery (Haste: 5273) will be better than Haste/Crit (Haste: 10289).  However in Arena...the difference is going to be playstyle-dependant.

:)

Should we be buying trinkets first this season? obviously on use and proc trinkets are both huge int boosts because of the ilvl but so I figured I would grab one of them today, but upon looking today I realized that the set pieces are also very big stat upgrades, so I'm not sure what will end up providing a bigger boost.

I'm having a lot of fun pestering people into playing LSD2 with me  :D

I really enjoy the spec even though it can be hard to kill sometimes.  I still often fuck up beams and sometimes don't save teammates when I can.  I want to try DKBoomSham, and I'm thinking about gemming more crit.  It's tough because I think I still want the 10.5k breakpoint, but not sure.

TBH I haven't really played enough games yet.  LSD2 seems solid though.  Unfortunately, I'm going to have a somewhat low cap this week, I didn't have time to play enough games.  Too many games to play and nobody takes any damage.

Same for mage moonkin priest, it is extremely hard to land a kill at the moment even if we get the perfect cc chain.
Moonkins scale well with gear so it should be better eventually..

This statement right here is the blind hope for moonkins being competitive again, it stands alone that this game is entirely based on 3 things

Instant CC

Instant Damage

And Real Defensive CDs

the classes with the most of these are the best and the ones with the least are the worst.

I dont understand all this "wait until we get gear, moonkins will be awsome"-hype. It'll be the same shit we're in now honestly. Our spec doesnt become magically become more amazing by gaining more stats, If I play with a ww/mage or hunter that brings 5% extra crit I dont suddenly start topping damage meters and do good solo pressure.

Well obviously when we get full gear there won't be any magic that will make us extremely good or something like that. but it's a fact that moonkins scale better with gear than a lot of other classes/specs, i've experienced the same last season: with full tyranncial gear we couldn't really get the kill even with the longest cc chain in the world our dmg was just too low, later on with grievous gear we did so much better it's kinda silly actually how much of a difference it made, we could force so much defensives from the enemy team in just 1 cc. I'm not sure about you but for me it's definitely a lot better with full gear.

You really need a calm centered mind to play moonkin. Whenever I play after a bad day or I'm feeling bad I actually lose my shit.

Right now I don't think 10289 haste cap is worth it. Better off going int/crit/haste build and just dump your mastery to haste. When we are full prideful 10289/10296 (The latter being the gcd cap) we will be sitting on high amounts of haste and crit by default. Then we can go for he haste caps.
