I'm at 3.01% hit atm, I don't think it can get much better than this.
20.52% crit, 16,94% haste, 24,77% mastery, 4.23% expertise...

~25.5% crit, 6.97% haste, 33.53% mastery, and 4.23% expertise

I actually have 26.65% crit, but I'm wearing some PvE legs and neck for the extra gem socket

I wanted to try mastery once more now that I have a reasonable amount of crit. Haven't decided if it's worth it

I have a theory about stat priority. For non-braindead comps such as the one I play, no stat is inherently better in every situation because the situation changes every game. So, I choose to gem whatever I feel is right as I ignore common opinion. But, for braindead cleaves such as jungle, where the main strat is to pve rotation one target in to the ground, one stat will be superior game after game.

...

That is why you should listen to Veev about stat priority. :) hehe

Almost nothing changed between 5.3 and 5.4 in terms of stat weights.  Refer to this link to see what to gem in each slot.  And you may check my PvP spreadsheet to see the source of this information (only updated it for warrior so far).

Oh, ignore trinket/meta recommendations on that page.  Str+crit dmg is hands down the best damage, PvP one is the most balanced, using anything else would just be for personal preference

So isn't it worth it to go double crit gems on legs? Or to gem crit+hit instead of crit+pvpp on blue slots so we can reforge more hit into crit?

So Veev your saying mastery is significantly more valuable than haste?

I modeled my gems\reforging off Irub's choices given he was the highest rated warrior i could find last season.
Mastery 33%, Expertise 6.16%, haste 6.1%, hit 3.25% and crit 22%,28200AP

I started playin some Warrior facerape on PTR and i had 2 different gear/reforge/gem builds. SEASON 14 Full gear

1) Reforging all to mastery once hit and expertise capped. Gemming Str+crt on yellow, str on red and str+pvp power on blue

AP 37.6, Haste 12,2 Crit 21,8% Mastery 39,2

2) Reforging all to mastery, same stuff with hit and expertise, gemming Crit on yellow, Crit+str on red and crit pvp power on blue

AP 35,2  HAste 12,2 Crit 25,3% Mastery 39,2

I'm no warrior expert but, give mastery and haste on same lvl, is it worth to drop over 2k attack power to get a 3,7% more crit ?

Crit gems are slightly ahead of Strength gems in terms of DPS.  However it seems closer this patch due to Deep Wounds buff than last patch so in the end I doubt you'll see any difference.

I must admit i'm pretty damn terrible when it comes to mathematic stuff but nevertheless I decided to make a test.

5 minutes on a dummy with the 2 different builds. LvL 90 Dummy, Battle shout ALWAYS up,
List of Abilities used:  2x Swifty (Avatar, Orc racial, Reck, Skull Banner and trinket pvp on use)

In and out of swifty attacks:  Mortal Strike, Slam, Colossus smas on cd/proc, Melee autoattacks and mastery procs. (also wounds applied by Mortal strike)

TEST 1. ---  AP 35,2  Haste 12,2 Crit 25,3% Mastery 39,2 (hit capped and 5% expertise cap)
results :

Total dmg done in 5 mins = 30.176.462

1) Slam (40,4%), 82 hits
Normal Hit:   min 68,4k,  avg: 105,9k,   max: 184,1k
Crit hit:  min: 141k,   avg:  260,2k,   max:  465,2k

2) Deep Wounds (dot) (17,6%), 104 ticks
Normal:  32k,  38k,  57k
Crit:  67k, 78k, 142k

3) Mortal Strike (14,6%), 47 hits
Normal:  53k,  78k,  125,7k
Crit:   113k,  164,6k,  329k

4) Melee attacks (14,5%), 92 hits
Normal:  24k,  36k,  63k,
Crit:   51k,   74k,   138,9k

5) Mastery Procs  (7,2%), 87 hits
Normal : 13k,  19k,   34,6k
Crit:   29,7k,   44,6k,   72,8k

6) Colossus Smash (5,6%), 19 hits
Normal:  44k,   60k,  87k
Crit:  95k, 124k,  181k

TEST 2 ---
AP 37.6, Haste 12,2 Crit 21,8% Mastery 39,2  (hit capped and 5% expertise cap)

Total dmg done in 5 mins =   31.634.396

1) Slam (38,7%), 83 hits
Normal:  69k,   114k,   188k
Crit:   151k,   272k,   452k

2) Mortal Strike (17,2%),  47 hits
Normal:  54k,   80k,   122k
Crit:   122k,   172k,   319k

3) Deep Wounds (dot) (17,1%), 104 ticks
Normal:   34k,  40k,   60k
Crit:  70k,   83k,   124k

4) Melee Hits (12,7%), 89 hits
Normal:  24,8k, 37,5k,   65k
Crit:  52k,  74,9k,   133k

5) Mastery Procs (7,6%)
Normal:  13k,   20,4k, 35k
Crit:  29,8k,  44k,   54,6k

6) Colossus Smash, 21hits
Normal:  45k,   57k,   80k
Crit:   90k,  135k,  189k

This test is missing some melee swings cause of rage starving i got forced to move and charge few times.

More crit test:

Crit:   116,9k,  162,9k, 243k

4) Melee attacks (13,4%), 94 hits
Normal:  24,7k,  37,4k,  64,9k,
Crit:   50k,   68,8k,   90,9,9k

5) Mastery Procs  (7,9%), 97 hits
Normal : 12,7k,  20,7k,   34,3k
Crit:   29,5k,   41,4k,   56,3,8k

6) Colossus Smash (6,7%), 22 hits
Normal:  44,9k,   61,7k,  103k
Crit:  92,9k, 148,6k,  205,8k

Also made a "rage regen test". Same rotation (Mortal strike, Colossus on cd/proc, slam spam, melee and mastery procs), both builds:

Str build:  1) Mortal Strike --> 47 times, 59,1%  2) Enrage --->  210 Enrage procs  26,4%
Crit Build:  1) Mortal Strike ---> 47 times,  57,7% 2) Enrage ---> 230 Enrage procs  28,2%

I did this testin on ptr mate. ain't got no armory for that.

As a result, my idea is this:

Str build is a bit more dmg overall (more or less same dmg on special attacks like slam and Mortal strike, bit more dmg on autoattacks, mastery and wounds) but more rage starvation while on target.

Given the burst dmg on swifty is pretty much the same, the overall dmq seems better with str cause of the higher dmg on autoattacks and wounds that you can apply with thunderskill cap. At same time building pressure is harder cause of less rage available which means less hamstring, less overpowers and so on.

My 2 cents (bare in mind i'm mainly a priest who is just starting facer...erm playin warrior):

- Str build seems better for stuff like overall pressure (say with dot caster like shadow priest or warlock affliction) possibly with a build with rofl stomr and stormbolt.

- Crit seems defo the way to go for 2s and burst comps such as kfc, tsg and mage warrior or ele warrior healer. I'd say avatar and shockwave are defo the choice for that.

JUST my opinion, let the experts talk.

(Exp cap) > Hit cap > Strength > Crit > Mastery > Haste

Strength is better than Crit, but 320 Crit gems are better than 160 Strength gems. Crit has a huge impact due to Enrage mechanics. Mastery is amazing with Sweeping Strikes and more equal, but still slightly ahead, to Haste on single target.

This is for maximum damage.

Everything else is personal preference.

i think this fits into this thread:

some interesting numbers for slam and overpower:

my stats selfbuffed:

30378 AP
Crit 23,4

Overpower(not included the cd reduction on ms!)

average Dmg
58251

Dmg per rage spend
5825

Dmg per second
58251

Slam

average Dmg
117186 (128900 with CS)

Dmg per rage spend
4687 (5156 with CS)

Dmg per second
78124 (85936 with CS)

soo.. overpower for overall DPS and slam for burst
