Diffuse Magic + UA dispel can bug.

I use Diffuse Magic, then Revival but still eat the full UA dispel damage. Had this several times before.

Does the UA dispel actually count as a magic effect? Can't test now, but it would be interesting to see what happens when a lock sacs an imp then dispels UA from himself after casting Twilight Ward.

It usually works but sometimes bugs. But it is definitely considered magic damage.

When Unstable Affliction is dispelled, the dispeller suffers 13875 to 16125 Shadow damage and is silenced for 5 sec.

Revival dispels your whole team, so if your partner has Unstable on him you will get the damage from that dispel.  If you both have it then the damage will double up.

Yes, of course. The problem is not taking damage. The problem is not benefiting from the 90% damage reduction.

I have never had Diffuse Magic + Revival work to prevent damage from UA backlash.

Trust me there is no MW ability which mitigates UA, not fortifying brew, not zen meditation, not dampen harm, not [stun->nimble brew] dematerialize dispel.  I learned from 2-3 embarrassing situations since Oct. then doing tests in duels.

In rbgs some locks make it their sole purpose to put max UAs up, ignoring their proper rotation.  They do this because they want you to revive/die, and also for general dispel protection.  The method I use now is a AU tracker I made in WeakAuras.

I still do not recommend this but if the team really needs a revival vs a dot cleave:  track UAs.  If there are 6 up, thunder focus tea, dispel your own UA, and quickly heal to full.  Now there are 5 UAs, (use on-use SP if you have it) life cocoon yourself, fortifying brew (just for 500k hp), use battlemaster if it's equipped, then revive and heal to full.

Thunder focus tea will ignore the silence from UA but nothing will mitigate it, just expect 100k+ damage on each dispel.  Best method is to just remove Revival from your bars for that game and focus on spreading renewing mist and uplifting.  It is a huge counter for MW, not being able to revive is like a rdruid not tranqing all game, but at the same time they lose the dps a destro lock could provide.

In 3s it is very unlikely to die from reviving unless they spread UA to pets; the heal activates first and most likely you'll be at 100k hp:  again thunder focus and prepare for a swap.

Edit:  Dampen Harm does work very effectively, just don't use Fort Brew beforehand (why my first tests were inaccurate).  In 3s vs a UA lock it's possible that they can kill you, especially in 5.4, so IMO it's best to use a Dampen Harm + Revival macro for those games.

the only way to live in rbgs whe nyou need to revival, is to cocoon yourself.

pretty sure you can eat the ones in 3s without dying, fortbrew maybe to be safe.
