New to mage, so go easy on me ^-^

So I'm not fully geared yet, but I was checking the breakpoints for Living Bomb and found 8717 for 7 ticks being the only reasonable break point. Do I need to sacrifice too much int for haste to reach this? Also do I need to go higher than 8717 for say Icy Veins / Mage armor Breakpoints?

Also, what about 5% haste buff from some classes in RBGs/Godcomp, are their any breakpoints I should be aware of here to optimise dps. (Assuming more damage from living bomb ticks/procs is more beneficial for landing kills).

Is their an all in one haste amount/Cap I should aim for?

Any advice or reasons why I'm an idiot is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the importance of haste break points has been widely exaggerated by quite a few people in this forum, in reality it's not really something you need to worry about. Both haste and mastery increase our damage in different ways and one of the enjoyable things about playing a Mage right now is how you can change your gearing/talent selection depending on your personal preferences and what team you are fighting

In general:
Prioritise haste, more dot ticks, faster dot ticks regardless of reaching a specific breakpoint, faster casts faster globals. Your procs will do less damage but you get more of them, and the playstyle can feel a lot smoother

Prioritise mastery, less procs but individual procs do far more damage, more damage when bursting, slower globals can feel clunky sometimes but that's largely personal preference

Try both and see what you prefer. All three bombs are viable with both haste and mastery, and don't be afraid to switch to nether tempest or frostbomb when fighting vs teams where they are superior to living bomb, far too many mages ditched nether tempest for living bomb once they buffed it and never look at their talent tree again, when the sensible ones were already using it in appropriate situations before the patch that buffed it.

To directly answer your question, 8717 haste is a number that you will probably struggle to reach without gemming some haste, it works so don't be afraid to try it if you don't mind spending the gold, but int gemming is generally better vs most of the classes that are fotm popular atm (lol ele)

Feel free to call me an idiot because I'm a hunter or some stupid ass remark but I've actually written all this down on paper and have looked at the numbers comparatively for almost every class

I actually made an appearance at DH2014 and I met up with people from twitch who were involved with the dota 2 / cs tournies that where there, I talked about the game from my perspective as a professional player and we actually shared a lot of opinions. All I'm saying is a lot of people will be VERY surprised about the future of this game in the esport world :)

having the breakpoint at 12.51% haste for living bomb is the best you can get . next breakpoint requires like 40% haste or something unreachable.

i prefer mastery over haste after i have the breakpoint, but its basically preference haste and mastery are both good.

best you can get in terms of living bomb ticks, obviously u can get more haste and have it tick slightly faster but u also have to reapply it more often, 7% more haste makes it go from 2.65sec between ticks to 2.48, a huge 0.17 of a second difference for having to get an extra 3000 haste

I was referring to how anal people are about how useful haste breakpoints are in general, but thanks for proving my point :)
