So I'm returning to wow with a few friends of mine from almost 2 year break and I'm wondering how is every class doing. Also monks seem really interesting, should I level one?

Hunters are exceptionally strong right now. Almost any DPS class will work with a Hunter in 3s.

WW Monks (DPS) are subpar; they're easily outperformed by Ferals, Rets and even DKs (in regards to viable melee dps).

Mistweaver Monks (heals) are fairly decent, though outshined by Discipline Priests.

Mages, Warlocks, Elemental Shamans, and Shadowpriests are doing fine at the moment. Moonkins aren't in terrible shape either (the top 5v5 on Bloodlust [the hardest battlegroup] has all of these classes on it!).
