In your opinion how should one gem in 5.3? Full Int?

I personally will be gemming all int and whatnot on my warlock because with the damage nerf to all classes (pvp power change) Our defensives will be great for keeping us alive, so at that point just time to do damage :D

you can gem a lot of different ways no on your playstyle, and each style is pretty even.   going Int or Mastery is good damage, whereas you can stack full haste and get quite a bit amount which is good for dots as well as faster fears/etc.

Been thinking alot about this the last few days, and think I'll go mastery in yellow, int/mastery in red and master/pvp power in blue, or might just skip blue sockets all together

Pvp power is being nerfed, and intellect is already better than pvp power - I was thinking of trying the relic 2/2 (upgrade vendors will be back) + shadow pan

Edit: Instead of the relic I'm thinking of

http://www.wowhead.com/item=86907 + http://www.wowhead.com/item=94510 (for humans)

High intellect on both and sick haste procs. They will give like 17% haste each, imagine both active with dark soul and then spread dots everywhere. These combined with offensive gemming + 10% dot buff could change the game a fair bit for us.

The relic will be downgraded to 496 ilevel in any sort of instanced PvP.  But 2/2 upgrades would be nice for dueling I suppose!

Does intellect outweigh mastery for affliction locks, given that you trade 1 intellect for 2 mastery when it comes to gems?

have you ever seen relic?

2/2 upgraded is 484 ilvl, so it stays the same.

For PvE at least, mastery seems to be better than intellect gems;

For affliction: Artful in red, Fractured in yellow/prismatic, Effulgent in blue.

Go for every socket bonus except for pants, where you use 2x yellow.

(I've done a decent amount of math/theorycrafting to support this, I just feel like it's too sloppy to share atm.)

Edit: Sorry, disregard above for now, forgot to account for the new 265 > 400 PvP power change.  Will probably be worth skipping even more socket bonuses.  Will post more later.

Here are my preferred 5.3 gems: http://us.battle.net...agastt/advanced

I'm assuming that mastery is better than int.  It's what I've been told and I haven't had much time to logon and test it.  If someone finds out differently (or if I get a chance to test it and find out differently), then it's pretty obvious what to change.

On a somewhat related note: I'm tentatively excited about the possibilities for affliction in 5.3.  Healing is going to be down 10-15% overall, and our damage should be up 10-15%.  I think there's a definite chance of affliction being a solid spec.

On a side note, it seems 5.3 buffed the ilvl of the pvp gear? When I check your armory it says 496, mine is 493, didn't know that!

But yeah, I gained ~16½% mastery and 1000ish int from regemming. Another 10% from our new set bonus, not sure the exact pvp power nerf, and then there's the nerf to healing too.

This won't be as in-depth as my warrior gemming thread, but I did some math for affliction and here are my results:

http://www.editgrid....ck-live-testing

Wowhead gear ranking link here.

I'm confident in the comparisons between int/mastery/PvP power/crit, but haste is a little more difficult to calculate due to the multiple haste caps.

But basically, mastery reigns supreme, and it's worth ignoring the pant socket bonus for (my armory link here).  Haste, IMO, is about as good as crit (or slightly above it) unless you're nearing a haste cap, in which case you may want to consider reforging/regemming to make sure you hit it.  But I have 3834 haste, and the next threshold I'd have to meet is 5320, which is too far off to consider sacrificing mastery for it.

And yeah, affliction seems decently strong/fun now.

Also, as far as trinkets go, did some testing and the Shado-Pan trinket appears to give 1151 intellect inside of arena now.  Using my spreadsheet values, that means it gives 1151*0.20808 = 239.5 damage on average to a corruption tick.

The PvP trinket has "free" stat points from PvP power, and has a total of 1515 PvP power.  1515*0.07109 = 107.7 damage on average.

So, ignoring the passive procs for now, the PvE trinket is farrrrrrrrr superior to the PvP one.  They made PvP power such a weak stat now that I'm sure that will be the case for every class (except for healers, maybe?).  Every class is going to want their primary stat on their trinket or they'll be at a pretty big disadvantage.

What's the take on the meta gem? I see you're int/3% crit on armory, but the wowhead link suggests the mastery/minor run speed meta.

What about the new pvp power/pvp resi one?
