DK Changes - May 14th

General
  • Blood Plague no longer benefits from the damage increase granted by Tricks of the Trade.
  • Frost Fever no longer benefits from the damage increase granted by Tricks of the Trade.
  • Necrotic Strike's healing absorption effect has been increased to 225% from attack power, up from 200%.
Talents
  • Gorefiend's Grasp can now affect a maximum of 4 player targets. The number of non-player targets that can be affected remains unlimited.
Unholy
  • Festering Strike now deals 175% weapon damage, down from 200%.
  • Scourge Strike now deals 165% weapons damage, up from 135%.
  • Sudden Doom now requires the Death Knight to be in Unholy Presence to activate the effect that causes Death Coil to cost no Runic Power.
  • Unholy Might now increases the Death Knight's Strength by 10%, down from 15%
Looks like they reverted the dmg changes to FS and SS and didn't nerf Unholy Might? Necrotic also got a buff. Me like :)

Not sure if the NS buff is needed especially with the revert to the unholy might nerf

Honestly, playing a DK isn't even enjoyable.  When you connect with something, the damage really isn't healable.  Problem is you get peeled constantly, as it is really the only way the enemy team's healer will survive.  Skill cap is so low it's ridiculous.  Class is all about just doing more spread damage than a warlock while smashing a single target.

Assuming this change is to bring it back pre nerf levels before all the hotfixes.

When will necrotic strike be fixed?
We have a hotfix in the works to restore necrotic strike to its previous values on live. It wasn't meant to nerf them but fix a problem with necrotic strike and base resilience.

But as we all know it was nerfed 10% or whatever the value is.

ex.
Pre-hotfix and nerf the calculation was with it ignoring base resil:
   atkpwr * pvppower * [1 - (resil - .40)] = absorb on target

   So removing pvp power for simplification and assuming 65% resil and 30k attack power we were doing
   30000 * (1 - .25) = 25500 absorbs

Post-hotfix(current live) assuming the value of absorb was 200% of attack power since patch notes say it got increased from 200% to 225%:
   atkpwr* pvppower * 2 * (1 - resil) = absorb on target

   Again removing pvp power for simplification
   30000 * 2 *  ( 1- .65) = 21000 absorbs

new patch notes with 225% of attack power:
   atkpwr * pvppower * 2.25 * ( 1- resil) = absorb on target

   Again removing pvp power for simplification
   30000 * 2.25 (1 - .65) = 23625 absorbs

So still a slight nerf to necrotic since 5.2 started and no other changes other than
Sudden Doom now requires the Death Knight to be in Unholy Presence to activate the effect that causes Death Coil to cost no Runic Power.

I agree. Wish they would make so that we can put diseases only on one target in pvp or just nerf their dmg by like 30%. Necrotic isn't affected by pvp power anymore so this ends up being a nerf anyway like someone already said before.

Think they should do it like cata where if you didn't get the talent contagion dots spread by pestilence or blood boil it only did 50% of the damage. Dont think anyone in pvp took it.

stop with nonsense, 5.3 is great for dks ,exp frost
all dmg and healing got 15+ % nerf  , necrotic is slightly nerfed (with full str gems it wont be noticable difference from what it is on live)
if people stop flipping dead  100-0 in blanket cs , scatter or half deep dks will shine
