http://www.nimh.nih....diagnosis.shtml

To sum it up, NIMH, the National Institute of Mental Health, former leader in the science of creating intelligent rodents, has basically split their categories into loose terms to create a useful sort of placeholder terminology, and more concrete conditions which they don't actually really have yet but don't want the dated and unreliable loose terms that are more a collection of symptoms rather than specific biological impairments/damage/etc to impair them from researching into.

Psychology is a really gray area(hahahaha....) in science currently which allows a lot of abuse by pharmaceutical companies and so on, so it's encouraging to see a step in the right direction at an official level even if it's just identifying the problem and not yet fixing it.

Interesting/relevant/exciting to me 'cause I'm probably really fucked up and have been to multiple psychologists who were like "well you're fucking weird but LOL IDK", but maybe you guys would get something out of it/find something to argue about/discuss(I'm betting on no but w/e).

Psychology has always been complete bullshit. It's good that the world is beginning to acknowledge that and moving on to relying on psychiatry exclusively.

It's not complete bullshit and psychiatry has much of the same bullshit. A psychiatrist will go through much of the same schooling as a psychologist they just do additional medical schooling to prescribe things. They work with many of the same definitions of conditions. The problem is how vague the definitions of many conditions are and they then get over-diagnosed and medicine for them gets over-prescribed. Some of this is probably pharmaceutical companies being dickwads, but some is simple mistakes and ignorance and a tendency to oversimplify things towards those familiar but still vague definitions just to put a name on the problem.

I think this is a good development, because it will help a lot of people who have issues but don't find out what the problem is. I have a friend who has been to multiple psychologists and every one of them told him something different. They basically don't know, but take a wild guess instead. Clearer guidelines and terminology would really help with preventing this kind of problem from occuring.

I have a minor in psychology...it's a pesudo-science at best.  Still a lot of interesting shit comes out of it, regardless of whether it can be applied to the general population or not.
I'm always right.
