I realize it's subjective and that not everyone feels the same way, but given the mood of the event and that specific thread, at least up until that point, it would have been better left unsaid/untyped.
I'll say this again:
Depends on my audience. I'd either get ghastly looks, or maybe a few smiles. The former reaction is guaranteed, but honestly there is a large swath of people with an appreciation of black humor of this nature.
Sometimes, we require a darkened, tarred perspective to fully understand and perhaps come to terms with a situation. Some people may dislike it, but that doesn't mean it is any less valid. The same questions appeared in art with every new movement or practice. And guess what? Art is incredibly subjective. Guess what is also subjective? Humor.
But then again, that somewhat answers your question, as I personally would have not said it at that event, knowing the likely outcome. However, I'd like to point out that AJOT would seem like an adequate receptacle for such jokes, judging from its past history and content as Sykeasaurus pointed out.
I don't understand how people get so fucking easily offended over this anyways. Clearly it wasn't meant for an audience like you, so ignore it and move on.
