As an ex-mod that still has the tag for some reason but hasn't moderated anything in years aside from a few spambots.

1) The current team is far too small on top of being far too lenient. But they can't really step in and start banning people left and right either. Posts that would have been considered absolute garbage at a certain point in time aren't really that different form the majority of posts anymore - it's a status quo that has developed over time and you can't do much against it (unless you want to kill the boards altogether).
People just adapt to the board and the posts they read. It's a very simple circular concept - when people read terrible posts, they feel entitled to doing the same themselves.
2) There is a lack of updates because of a lack of members in said team. As as been pointed out in this thread I don't think many people even play WoW anymore. Maybe the guides are out of date, maybe not, if you don't play, why would you even check these again in the first place?
3) The high tier of players are (for the huge majority) playing in order to generate $$ rather than for the game itself nowadays, which is a very different mindset. Why would they dedicate time trying to make guides and be genuinely helpful when they can do something profitable instead, by streaming or "coaching" (*cough*) or plain boosting? They have no reason to.
4) Is the scene even competitive anymore? Honest question. I do my dragonslaying stuff and don't give a second of attention to PvP stuff anymore.
5) I never felt like the report button was underused when I used to mod, but maybe that's just me, and I don't really know about the current situation of reports. Use this button. It's better to have 5 people reporting the same thing than not having anyone do it. Help them help you.

Nothing much else to say, don't read AJ often enough anymore to have any other opinion on this really.

Take away the rep button, a lot of shit posts will clear up on this website.

I also don't have a problem with the occasional joke image or something, but seeing every thread just filled with memes and insults is just sickening.

For example a few weeks back I posted a thread about a shadowmeld lifeswap bug a few weeks back, and although not filled with memes, it was instantly posted in by a user telling me how worthless it is for me to post it because its common knowledge.  It's shit posts like that that are all over this site, and really ruin threads for me, and most likely sway other people away as well.

Just my personal take, but the forums really are getting hard to read, to the point where I will really only try to read threads that I know are made by people who don't troll so much.  Seeing general forums filled with "LOL BLIZZARD DDOS" threads is just a massive turn off.

I think more of you guys should appreciate the timing. We got an actual PvP developer, who reads feedback and is easy to reach, and who gets things done. There were multiple blue posts stating that Blizzard acknowledge how unfriendly PvP is for new players (and/or unattractive for the general mass of players). Something big can happen any patch note now.

You should also appreciate that AJ is still the main WoW PvP resource. We are the prime example of a PvP community. The better this community is, the more attractive PvP (and AJ) will be. If all we ever talk about is how bad the game is, it's no wonder that nobody wants to get into it, and the irony is that we keep playing and then complain about a lack of participation.

It's so easy to write negative posts about how hopeless and pointless everything is, and blame the game or just say "well, that's how it is and there is nothing you can do". But we can, and these discussions here are aimed exactly at that.

Why?

Why did you ignore some of the points I made in that thread?

Why are people who continually abuse the system still allowed to be apart of this community?

People who wintrade, DDOS and people who sells boosts which directly negatively effects the game (and is a large reason why a lot of people have stopped playing PvP) still allowed to be apart of this community?

Since it looks like Blizzard are finally, finally putting some work into improving PvP, shouldn't we also be putting some effort into cleaning up this disgusting community?

It's because this community has decided that wintrading and boosting is okay, that the game has slowly gone to hell.

Also about your comment about "reporting", there are numerous type of threads which should be removed/deleted/locked on the site which has mods posting in in the first place (such as yourself that I've seen), the end-of-season drama threads don't really have any point, it's the same shitty drama anyway, oh god somebody transferred to some shitty bg for their 5th R1 (all of them in 5s, because that's legitimate and the height of skill) and someone can along and wintraded past them. Big wow. All these threads do is prove how shit the community is, they do nothing to improving the site or the game, they have absolutely no use here, but they aren't locked because really that's the only real reason anyone comes back to this site anymore and I imagine you guys know that and hence why they are allowed to continue.

This is largely the point I'm making, this is the first opportunity that we've really had to improve the game and it's community, especially the community, if we don't take the opportunity, who knows when Blizzard will do it again.

1.  I'm not sure if it's too small.  Maybe, maybe not.  I suppose that's subjective.  I dunno what to say to that.  I think reporting goes a long way but your 5th point addresses that.  As far as the leniency thing goes; I believe that certainly is subjective.  There's a good amount of people in here that don't want the forums to be overly moderated but there's also the counter side that believes it's under moderated.  A fine line to walk.  I guess the solution is to try to increase the moderation slowly over the course of the next few weeks and then reassess and reevaluate from there to see what people think.  The circular comment about quality of posts makes sense.

2.  Thaya says he has received PMs and there certainly are people that want to create more content, if that's the type of update you're talking about.

3.  Again, I think Thaya has mentioned a desire from people to create content.

4.  I cannot say.

5.  Can't stress this enough, agreed.

Concerning the rep button, maybe.  On the flip side, I think it's a way for some people to agree with good posts.  I.e., looking at Thaya's thread and seeing the rep his original post received, you can tell the community feels how he does to an extent.  I think it has it's useful purposes.  I think moderation of "bashing, useless posts, insulting, etc." needs to happen to nullify the people posting simply for rep (if that's even a thing).

The latter half, again, has to deal with the line of under/over moderation and is something that we can reevaluate in a few weeks.  Again though, please report those posts that are clearly not helpful in your threads.  It WILL help.  It was perhaps coincidence, but I noticed some reports being generated after this thread was created and the poor posting was cleared up quickly.

Could've done without adding "disgusting" in front of community.  And what are you talking about?  That's EXACTLY what this thread (and Thaya's) is trying to achieve?

A new, rant room-esque subform could be made to handle that type of "drama." Or the original one opened up.  Or not that idea at all. Some people enjoy that kind of "entertainment" I suppose but it shouldn't detract from the main purpose of the site.  I think the original rant room was created in a sense for people to just blow off steam without having to strictly adhere to moderation and a particular format.  I'm not advocating those types of posts OR saying the specific example you outlined should be allowed.  I am saying, though, that a place to complain about something should maybe exist again without fear of constantly being reprimanded, as rant room functions.

Honestly, remove the Junkie access. Or put something like "arena games played" requirement or w/e. Lower it to 1800.

I'd agree with this if moderation become much more proactive and aggresive with moderation and sanctions. There's a poster i won't bother naming that has been trying to stir up shit with me multiple times and while i report him, at best his post gets deleted and all is good in the universe, it gets old.

There's also posters that are basically walking/breathing memes, the walls of lamentations (everyone knows who i'm talking about here) and the .gif specialists that seem to strive on this forum, opening it even more risks only to bring even more people like this if nothing is done.

Hiring more moderators within the community would be a start, like MMO-Champions does on a fairly regular basis but even then its pointless if rules aren't enforced and tightened.

You're right, I didn't read that, so I apologise for that part.

The obvious abuses that is being ignored is selling boosts, which a lot of people on this site are responsible for and for which is the biggest reason why people are turned off from PvP, it's hilarious that it is so often ignored.

Most people not hardcore involved in Arena these days just look at Glad/R1 teams/titles and believe that they are probably win-traded or title sales, I used to regularly post on the official forums for about a year and that's by-and-large how the rest of the community sees it.

And they are right, at least in Europe, I don't know the extent of the problem in the US but it's obviously a problem there too, and it's by a lot of the most "famous" players as well, players like Zunniyaki, Flubbah, Minpojke etc for example are amongst the worst offenders, so why are they not banned from this site?

They are purposely destroying the competitive side of the game and yet the site which supposes'd itself as the "competitive site for Arena" doesn't say anything. A big problem with this site is how everyone is so gutless and nobody says anything to anyone about this. Grow some balls people.

Another example is the hilarious fact that the Yaspresents retards are allowed to even be here, the Arabs who have been buying the R1 title for 6 seasons now, yet you guys even advertised their little tournament, sure it's good to have tournaments, but them running a tournament doesn't make up for the rest of the shit they have caused.

Naturally nobody gives a shit about this aspect, they are all 15 year old kids making money and all the mods are friends of theirs, so this part of the site/community won't change at all.

But if it doesn't, let's drop this charade of you and the mod/admin team actually giving a damn about moderation.

It shouldn't be hard for anyone to figure out. If 80% of every Glad title is wintraded or sold, those very few legitimate players left in the game, will not stay playing the game, this is why the community is dying.

Just a thing, people always talk here about how much better the SC2 community is compared to the WoW community, in the SC2 community, those few people that "boost" to Grand Masters, are not allowed to stay as members of TL and stuff like that.

Completely agree with Rasen, the same maggots that complain there is no competition are the exact same people who has killed off the competative side of this game with their boosts and sales..

So stop with all your bullshit on this site as you idiots that post here are responsible for the decline of any serious pvp, and another thing all your rank one titles mean absolutely FUCK ALL...

Also if you think arena participation has anything to do with balance, your fucking deluded, the game is on its arse, there is maybe like 500 people who take the pvp seriously the rest of us dont give a shit.

What you're talking about is more of a problem with WoW as a whole and has very little to do with AJ. I do get what you're saying, but none of those guys are that active on AJ anyway, so in retrospect, banning them wouldn't change anything. Yeah, it'd send a message, but during all Cataclysm seasons, AJ and PvP forums were all about how bad boosting is, did that affect anything at all? nope. Boosting should reduce drastically now that there's no actual 2.2k gear and there's rating "decay". I'm not biased, I'm also completely against boosting and have never boosted myself.

What I would like to emphasize in your post though, is people getting access via bought titles, and people who couldn't get access for this exact reason (or because of broken ladders in general). That alone devalues "junkie status" a lot, and is another reason to consider adjusting/lifting it.

Yes, I'm not solely laying the blame upon AJ, I realise it's very difficult for them to affect anything really, what they can do is not allowed people to remain members who do break these rules. However if AJ had done what it should of done along time ago and ban those who acted this way in the beginning, then I imagine that the community wouldn't be quite as corrupted as it is now.

The biggest blame however is Blizzard's, they have allowed things to get this bad and have since completely ignored the problem.

The prestige of Glad/R1 is gone, completely and utterly gone. So has the prestige of being a "junkie" here. As you stated, I'd remove it completely and simply judge people based on the content/posts they create, rather then on something that hasn't mattered for years now.

As you said in the other thread, I believe we have a rare opportunity to change the game for the better while we have a developer who hasn't yet gotten sick of the community, so let's change ourselves back to how it was, when the site created good content and had intelligent discussions on the state of the game, not the crap it descended into.

The point of this thread was to see what people thought about moderation and make a slow, gradual change over time.  A complete, rapid overhaul that goes over the top too quickly is potentially just as harmful as no change at all.  That being said, moderation is going to try to become more proactive.  I've done a little proactive moderation since the creation of this thread.  Hopefully more moderators will follow suit, IF that's what AJ needs.

More importantly:  Again I don't know if it's a coincidence or just a really short term thing, but reports have been coming in a lot faster since the creation of the thread.  Yes, yes, it's been less than 24 hours.  But you have to start somewhere.  Hopefully this continues + the proactive moderation.

Bolded:  This is ridiculous.  How am I suppose to take you seriously when you're LITERALLY making things up about me and the other moderators.  Dude I don't even play WoW; I said that in my original post, so any kind of in-game wintrading or abuse simply isn't coming out of me or nearly any other moderator considering few of the moderating/administrators play WoW.  Starting up rumors like this does nothing but damage your credibility.  I don't even know who "Yaspresents" is.  I've been accused of wintrading with "the Jordons" before and I still don't know who they are.  It's absolutely ludicrous.  There isn't a "charade" of improving the website, it's an actuality.

Italics:  You're doing the same, exact thing I said in post #2.  People list off a name and say, "Why isn't he banned yet?"  What on earth is that proving?  Seriously.  Just answer that question.  What is you listing off a name and asking me, "Why isn't he banned yet?" accomplishing?

Seriously, you might want to reconsidering accusing me of things I'm not doing, nor is any other moderator, if you want some credibility.  I want constructive feedback but throwing around names and blaming people doesn't qualify as constructive.

Also if you think arena participation has anything to do with balance, your fucking deluded, the game is on its arse, there is maybe like 500 people who take the pvp seriously the rest of us dont give a shit.

If you agree with him, then the above post is directed towards you as well.  It's another baseless claim.

I don't mean this in sincerity, but what's to stop me or anyone else from saying, "Wow that Kreeds guy wintraded his season 10/11 titles, we should ban this guy"?  Nothing.  There's no proof or validity to that claim and with no proof or validity, why would anyone take action.

If you don't know anything about the community, then frankly it shouldn't be you making this thread.

The people I listed, this is not "rumour", it's a fact that everyone who still actively plays, knows.

Or I wouldn't of said it in the first place. And when I was talking about "mods", I was obviously generalising and not talking about you specifically, so I have no idea why you reacted to that in the first place.

There is numerous examples in the past of mods who were purposely removing threads which proved that they or people they had know had wintraded/ddosed, I believe the most well known one was eventually removed as mod (but I think he's a mod again now).

Either way, that has nothing to do with the present and the future, when there are illegitimate players that everyone knows about, not conjecture, not rumour, not subjective opinion, then they should be removed from the forum.

unless you post definitive proof, then it's still a rumor to us. we can't do anything just because you say "everyone knows". it's the internet, and people are always quick to accuse one another of cheating in some form. imagine playing on an FPS server where the admins automatically banned anyone who was accused of using aimbot, it'd be irresponsible and entirely unfair.

I believe the evolution of high rated pvpers just playing for cash is what ruins this game, title sells etc..
I'm glad I got my title before it got prevalent, I see no point to even get a glad title since cata anymore

It isn't my job to know every single currently active player in WoW.  It certainly helps in some cases but it's not a requirement.  I'm making this thread because I'm a moderator and it's been recently brought to my attention, via PMs and reports, that users within this community have an issue with moderation.  The issues with moderation don't solely regard wintrading/ddos'ing.  Other issues include a lack of proactive moderation, seeing too many useless posts/bashing/insulting posts unattended and/or not receiving the necessary punishment as deemed by the community.

I've pinpointed, thus far, 3 issues that are worth working on and looking at.

1) General issues regarding current administration / the amount of access moderators have to perform certain actions, such as:  Deleting/adding forums, taking care of access requirements, taking care of gladiator helmets, etc.

2)  Finding the proper amount of proactive/retroactive moderation while trying to under/over moderate too much.  The goal is to achieve the right balance that leaves the majority of users happy with "cleaning up the trash" while still maintaing a sense of humor around AJ.

3)  Finding a way to generate more user submitted content.

At least 1 idea has been publicly generated about to improve the website that many people seem to want to try / look into:

1)  Looking at the allowing more people to post in the "junkie" section by removing access requirements or maybe lowering it.  Many people suggested this in the "site feedback" section of the website and I believe it was mentioned within this and/or Thaya's thread as well.

Ideas are being generated and problems pointed out.  So I'd believe the thread is going fine.

You specifically said "all mods."  I responded with the context of you saying "all mods."  I fall under that category.  So does Breadstick, Duckers and Blowi, 3 other mods I talk to regularly.  None of them take part in the accusations you laid out.  Obviously, none of the other mods take part in the accusations you laid out, but you're making accusations against me and 3 others I personally talk to on a regular basis.

You're just saying "it's a fact."  Saying "it's a fact" doesn't make it a fact.

This isn't valid proof.  I don't know how else to explain that.
