Never thought of it before but a friend brought up about win/loss ratio having a negative impact on people wanting to play arena, we made a quick tweet about it:

I've mentioned this before when I talked about unranked mode, but bringing League of Legends normal mode as an example.

Absolutely agree, yes.

I feel like there are too many variables in ladder queueing to make win/loss as a stat relevant to a teams success, especially considering how inactive it can be at times.

SC2 shows losses as well, it just says Games played, games won. simple math can deduce how many games you've lost.

except everyone in leagues under master's complain that they can't see their losses anyway

sc2 is even more fucked than this game, the community is just a lot more positive and productive

how is sc2 more fucked than this game? sc2 just had over 100k viewers watching mlg, and it was one of the best tournaments to date. SC2 is an amazing game and has amazing balance, versatility, amazing community, REAL pro gamers, people actually try to help others get better when they stream etc. etc. etc.

TLDR SC2 is amazing.

if you are comparing the two as esports, then yes, but if you've long since abandoned the idea that wow is comparable to games that have had LAN tournaments running for over a decade then the comparison you're left with is the gameplay, interface, etc. this is what i assumed was the comparison to make since we're talking about things like displaying wins on the interface and not which one is going to get picked up by LAN tournaments

and in that regard, the game is not in the best shape. the game is unfriendly to people who don't want to queue matchmaking, and get crushed until they fall to an MMR where they can get a 50% winrate, then constantly be reminded that they are still in the middle of a league four leagues below their friends. it's not fun to lose repeatedly and be 100% accountable for the majority of people who play games, which is why sc2 is less popular than BW ever was

it's admittedly gotten better with hots unranked matchmaking and enhanced custom map interface, and there's been a resurgence of interest with the new game, but comparatively, blizzard has been much less responsible about basic ways to improve sc2 than they have with wow. the hots changes are mostly things that were available on battlenet 10 years ago, and we're still lacking a handful of those which are sorely missed

if you're talking about esports nobody is going to defend the direction blizzard has taken wow, but in terms of creating an environment that more people want to play in (tweet in OP), wow has little to learn from sc2

Yeah the interface fair point there. Battlenet 2.0 has been a colossal failure imo, so i definitely agree with you there.

D3 and sc2 have the worst user friendly interfaces and almost 0 sense of a community which imo was the main reason d3 failed. (among bugs/bots/no end game)

As far as leagues in Sc2, would you rather have it be that people dont play with those of their equal skill? If the only person to be held accountable for each loss in a 1v1 is the player, than it makes for an excellent system. The main problem is that people hate being wrong and realizing that they suck, and that they have no one else to blame (see WoW arena players who blame every loss on bad teammate/fotm comp/etc. etc. etc) This frustrates them and they quit instead of taking the time to learn new builds, watch top streamers and practice.

In all honesty; what?
