Nether Tempest and Warlocks

Apparently Mages are now better Warlocks than Warlocks are...

A single cleaving Nether Tempest hits for about 85% of the damage of a full stack of Warlock DoTs.


Maths:

NT Avg Hit: 3469  http://i.imgur.com/C72nwAF.png

Agony: 4119   http://i.imgur.com/r2dpHpS.png

Average total NT DPS: 3469+1819 = 5288
Average Warlock DoT DPS: (3431+4119+5439)/2 = 6494

Add in ~5% more crit for the Mage, and we're at 5552 Nether Tempest DPS vs 6494 Warlock DoT DPS.


That's 85% of a full DoT stack on a single spell which always only takes one global to apply, procs ~70k instant nukes, and is not even really a Mage's main form of attacking.  I would say the situation is pretty ridiculous right now...  Note that these numbers are from an RBG where I was able to spend more than my regular armount of shards under a spellpower increasing effect, which means in an arena the numbers would be even more favorable to Nether Tempest.

That was with 60% dmg increase from 2 wards as said in the topic before iirc. Especially seeing as highest I get hit for is about 90k.

On-topic;

Warlocks do need to get buffed and they probably will, but I can't say I'm look forward to it. The whole playstyle of a warlock is really, really annoying to play against. Even now it's extremely frustrating still.

i would imagine that in a 3s game, a NT on all 3 targets, if you count in all 3 cleaves, that the damage would most likely be EVEN with lock dots if not more overall.


I personally hate the mage bomb playstyle, and i wish they would completely get rid of them and bring back the old mage playstyle.

reasoning for nerfing corruption was just multidotting in pve.
they don't seem to understand that it's soulburn/soul swap causing all the issues, not the dmg of the dots, lol.

i think the best fix would be to remove soulburn soulswap immediately, bring back the old 10 second soul swap (or even 15) with the glyph and buff dot damage a bit at the expense of malefic grasp for pve reasons (blizz said single target aff damage was high as well even with no multi-dotting)

this way u have to cast but at least if u get trained 10s soul swap still allows dots to spread easily in 3v3 but not as much in multi-dot pve fights u cant just spam soulburn:ss on the first 3 targets u see and keep nuking boss

This thread isn't about NT being a problem, it's about warlock DoTs being awful.

I think it's actually both.  NT is too strong and Warlock DoTs are too weak (and too easy to apply).

I know you were, you suggested that NT is not a problem considering how much burst Mages are able to pull out and that makes them overpowered, but the whole point of this thread isn't either NT or Mage. It's about Warlocks and their damage. NT was used as an example.
