I was on pmuch every post-ZG GM team on my server, I never wanted to do the grind myself. I think I got like rank 9 or 10 and just hovered there. Our server was pretty good about ranking, it wasn't as cut-throat as others I've heard about. You had to play a shit-ton, but people generally took turns taking GM.

I was r11, my team mate grinded from general to warlord for 12 weeks. I remember my PC broke down and i gave up, he had same issue but he was going to net caffe and shit, eventually he got r14. It wasn't that hard i guess(was more time consuming), i was pretty much clueless about the game back then but got to 11 easily

What server did you play on back then?

My server was a fucking horrible. So much backstabbing and shady things happening, not even just for r14. All I wanted was the mount and r11 title but even getting that was a pain. We ended up having to set up guild group rotations and all this other shit just to get one of our friends hwl.

yeah. it got pretty bad on my server. there were people who would 3 box so they could keep tabs on who was queing and how much honor they currently had. so bad even that some peoples accounts were kept online and played 24/7 for 2-3 weeks at a time, and seldomly some of the people involved in that would backstab their friends by changing their password a day or two before rollover to sabotage their ranking for a week.

that whole system was fucking horrid. iirc to get rank 14 you had to be rank 13 and be in the top 3 honor earners for the week for 3-5 weeks then be #1 when you were close enough to break the gap. at one point i think there was 2 people fighting for it so neither ended up getting it for 7-8 weeks.

I was on Lightning's Blade. The first GM team I was on had a good system to keep things in lock, but there was a rival team. We decided after speaking with them to let them get 2 people to GM, and the rest of their team would fend for themselves. Then ours was pretty structured on who was getting GM, except some random guy who didnt even have enough gold to buy bullets for his hunter would play just about 24/7 and they let him get GM just to get him out of the system. There was a massive overpopulation of alliance on the server, and everyone would play AB. So, they would queue WSG (before you could multi-queue) and do some win-trading. It worked for the Horde teams because if they allowed us to win, they could get right back into the queue immediately. If they put up a fight, then it wouldnt matter much to us anyway because queues were so stupid long. Then there were some teams after that, and teams after that, but usually the PVP crowd on the server was really tight, so even people who had already hit GM would or different ranks would come back and help people grind up.

Starts getting hazy after that, because they switched the system up. I just remember us setting our hearthstones to Sythilis and running spice between games because Queues were so long...

Ours too, there was 1 grind team on Horde and if you weren't in that you weren't getting far, so people were pretty relaxed about everything because as soon as you started being a douchebag you'd get kicked and probably end up dropping a rank unless you managed to get into the big raid guilds PvP groups. Coordinated who was getting top 5 ranks every week, with x amount of honor etc.

I had exams during my final week and missed HWL by 20% but up until then I was only grinding maybe like 5 hours a day? Which still sounds like quite a bit now, but when other servers were having like 3 people play their accounts for like 20 hours a day it was super chill.
