It's legal in Germany and the result was a huge rise in prostitution and human trafficking, which is harder to fight than before. Many students choose it to earn their money with and Germany became the European center for prostitution like the Netherlands became for drugs after legalizing weed and some other stuff in the 90s.
Has this made the situation worse or better in your opinion? Is there any interesting documentaries on this (In English) that you know of? Does the government end up making money from it or do they end up losing more money fighting the trafficking?
Personally I'd be in favour of legallising prostitution in the UK, because it's going to happen one way or another and you can't stop it. You might as well try and make it as safe as possible for the women involved (yes happens to men too but a lot less and it's less dangerous... unless they are Gay) and earn some tax out of it.
