I've seen a ton of mages that are Nether Tempest go with Frost armor for the extra haste for more brain freeze procs lately and I was wondering if that was worth doing over say mage armor for damage?

Any advice/explainations would be great.

I don't ever use Frost Armor, maybe worth it in random BGs against players that have no chance of damaging you, but even then it's probably better to use mage armor for the mastery

Don't forget to take into account that Mage Armor's defensive benefit is superior to that of Frost Armor

fire armor against melee cleaves possibly w armor glyph, all other teams mage armor is far more superior

Pretty much what they said.  Both the defensive capabilities and offensive potential that mage armor provides outweigh the slightly more consistent damage that 5% haste will give you.
