I don't even play WoW at the moment, but this shit annoys me so much, I feel compelled to make a topic.

Yes I know people can counter DDoS by preparing but this isn't the point.

Whoever is ddosing and shit probably reads aj, and probably will read this, I hope you do.

Whoever is DDosing in general, or, at the moment, this tournament clearly plays WoW - Why, are you trying to hurt something that could actually help broaden the horizons for this game?

Just think to yourself for one minute about what you're doing, it's actually so fucking lame its unbelievable. Do you sit there and get a warm fuzzy feeling every time you make someone DC? I doubt it - If you do, you probably need help.

Like shit, what's even the point, you knock someone out of the game, waste thousands of people (viewers) time and for what?

Honestly, just please stop being such an unbelievable cunt.

thanks
Hey man can i get ur skype? i got to ask u a question.....

It's ridiculous that you need to secure your connection so much in order to play the game and if you want to stream you need a whole army guarding your connection, people ruining a tournament like this don't have anything better to do it seems.
I got whispers lately: "pay me or i wont stop ddosing you", it's really sad what some players are doing....

DDOS here DDOS there, it's fucking annoying, sure might be an issue for top top players, especially during tournament participation, but am I the only one that's getting annoyed as shit hearing that term tossed everywhere over and over? You see some random non glad shitters saying "ffs getting ddosed" on streams because their mum tripped over their internet cable.. like out of 100 DDOS calls maybe 5 are the valid ones, if not less.

Popped a molly, I'm sweating.

The fucked up part is that khuna is probably right and someone associated with all of this is doing it.

Why?

Some people have went to extremes, changing all skypes with dynamic ips, and still being dos'd.

Notice that almost every DOS occurs to only one team.  Wouldnt a random ass want to dos one team one game and a diff one the next?  One DOS'r happens to have ten diff players ip addresses from multiple countries through skype?  If he was actually good at it they wouldnt be able to log back on.  Dakk in a position to lose second game, team that hadnt been dos'd suddenly gets dos'd and loses the series.

Probably not some random aj troll doing it.

Nearly every single 'pro' have an AJ account and post actively - thereby exposed their IP to them. Just saying..

Get a router that was made in the last five years and you'll be fine.  Don't forward port 80...or any port that you don't have a reason for forwarding.  Get a free firewall, and prevent all traffic, and allow traffic for a few programs.  Set up a Skype proxy.  Don't be an idiot.

If you have issues beyond that, call the police.

"Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the IAB's Internet proper use policy, and also violate the acceptable use policies of virtually all Internet service providers. They also commonly constitute violations of the laws of individual nations."

I have seen people say: "The police don't care about a bunch of nerds on WoW," or something to that effect.  It really runs much deeper than that, and if are seriously being DDoSed, there can be some very serious ramifications for those doing it.

Edit:  In your router-that-was-made-in-the-last-five-year's security settings, enable IPv4 and IPv6 SPI firewall protection.

Edit 2: Was reading through Mugem's "DDoS Prevention" guide, and I kind of shit myself when I read that it said to check on "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections."  If you do that you're a fucking idiot...like seriously.  Un-check it, it won't affect your Skype at all other than preventing your Skype from being flooded on port 80, which is the HTTP port.  Anyone who is going to try to flood your bandwidth is going to start with port 80.

If you are about to receive thousands of packages wouldn't that hit your modem first anyway, therefore rendering any protection your router could provide useless? (unless all you have is a router or idk)

The modem doesn't give a fuck lol.  All the modem does is relay the information.  Connection management is handled on the software side, and that is ultimately what a DDoS affects.

http://en.wikipedia....-service_attack

I think what should be stressed here is the severity of the attack.  Anything that supersedes a firewall or routers is extremely well planned, and VERY intentional, and on a scale that is clear-cut terrorism.  No one that plays WoW is dealing with this.
