Some people have went to extremes, changing all skypes with dynamic ips, and still being dos'd.
Notice that almost every DOS occurs to only one team. Wouldnt a random ass want to dos one team one game and a diff one the next? One DOS'r happens to have ten diff players ip addresses from multiple countries through skype? If he was actually good at it they wouldnt be able to log back on. Dakk in a position to lose second game, team that hadnt been dos'd suddenly gets dos'd and loses the series.
Probably not some random aj troll doing it.

If you have issues beyond that, call the police.
"Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the IAB's Internet proper use policy, and also violate the acceptable use policies of virtually all Internet service providers. They also commonly constitute violations of the laws of individual nations."
I have seen people say: "The police don't care about a bunch of nerds on WoW," or something to that effect. It really runs much deeper than that, and if are seriously being DDoSed, there can be some very serious ramifications for those doing it.
Edit: In your router-that-was-made-in-the-last-five-year's security settings, enable IPv4 and IPv6 SPI firewall protection.
Edit 2: Was reading through Mugem's "DDoS Prevention" guide, and I kind of shit myself when I read that it said to check on "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections." If you do that you're a fucking idiot...like seriously. Un-check it, it won't affect your Skype at all other than preventing your Skype from being flooded on port 80, which is the HTTP port. Anyone who is going to try to flood your bandwidth is going to start with port 80.

If you are about to receive thousands of packages wouldn't that hit your modem first anyway, therefore rendering any protection your router could provide useless? (unless all you have is a router or idk)

I think what should be stressed here is the severity of the attack. Anything that supersedes a firewall or routers is extremely well planned, and VERY intentional, and on a scale that is clear-cut terrorism. No one that plays WoW is dealing with this.
