So yeah I'm basically looking to upgrade my keyboard from this cheap $10 one I got a few years ago.

It's a toss up between these, I've decided on Red switches instead of brown.

Let me know if you guys know something else I should check out.

Basically it has to be under $100 and I would like hotkeys for mute sound/pause music and a num pad is somewhat helpful.

So the noppoo choc mini isn't an amazingly great board or anything, the only reason to get it is if you really want the compact form factor.  Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty nifty keyboard if you don't have a giant's shoulders - it keeps you in a better ergonomic position for gaming (not so much for typing).  It also has some crazy fucking firmware that allows n-key rollover over USB (cool, but fairly useless).  But it sounds like the opposite end of the spectrum from what you want.  If a numpad is somewhat helpful for you, that's the completely wrong direction to look.

If you really do want hotkeys (and are unwilling to simply use software and something like F9/F10), then your options are a bit limited.

If you can be persuaded away from media keys, I would suggest this board:

Better build quality than a coolermaster / noppoo (way better than a razr).  Not as pricey as a filco, but still very solid.

Thanks for the info! Yeah I was checking them out and the num pad is definitely helpful and Im sure I can add hotkeys through software. I may end up ordering this.

It'd be fine, comparable to a cooler master or something.  Build quality will probably be less sturdy than a leo, but it doesn't really matter that much.  Even the lower end ones (e.g. noppoo) are still pretty solid.
